This work introduces the first prior case retrieval models for Turkish courts. We investigated the rulings of the Court of Cassation of Turkey. Since law professionals have to find texts they are interested in from enormous legal databases and computers can process large amounts of text swiftly, information retrieval algorithms are helpful for law professionals. The information retrieval algorithms utilized in this work are recurrent neural network autoencoders, and the combinations of recurrent neural network autoencoders with BM25 algorithms. The combination of the long-short term memory autoencoder with ATIRE BM25 achieves the best scores on our dataset.

With the advent of technology and algorithms in image processing, many wearable aides are available in the market, and researchers across the globe are developing new solutions. The existing solutions and products fail to provide an economically viable and single solution to the problem of visually impaired people. This study introduces AIde, a novel system amalgamating optimized computer vision algorithms and wearable IoT devices to convert the information extracted from the camera mounted on the user to audio-based signals for assisted mobility. The proposed system has three user modes: indoor, outdoor, and hybrid, which can be modified using the buttons provided on the wearable device. The indoor mode can be used for object detection and classification to increase the accessibility of the objects inside a confined space, and the outdoor mode will provide the user with enhanced mobility and directional sense based on the highlighted path captured by the mounted camera. The hybrid model combines both the features of indoor and outdoor modes, which will detect objects and improve mobility simultaneously. The proposed model is optimized to work in a computationally efficient environment with an at par efficiency and accuracy as the state-of-art and costly market alternatives. © 2022 IEEE.

This research focuses on constructing an efficient image processing model, which is rooted in computer vision algorithms, to ameliorate image distortion and optimize visual display systems. The article initially discusses the significance of image distortion correction and its processing flow, encompassing detailed steps ranging from image preprocessing, model construction, parameter estimation, to pixel coordinate transformation. Furthermore, the design approach of computer vision display systems is explored, covering the theory of light field reconstruction, software and hardware design essentials, ensuring high fidelity in image presentation. Through multiple experiments conducted on datasets of distorted images, the effectiveness of the model in correcting distortion and enhancing image quality is empirically demonstrated, with the experimental results strongly supporting the feasibility and superiority of the model. This research holds positive implications for advancements and practical applications in the field of image processing.

image processing techniques are having a huge impact on most fields of robotics and industrial automation. Real-time methods are usually employed in complex automation tasks, assisting with decision making or directly guiding robots and machinery, while post-processing is usually used for retrospective assessment of systems and processes. While artificial intelligence-based image processing algorithms (relying usually on neural networks) are more common nowadays, "classical" image processing methods can also be used effectively for most modern applications. This paper focuses on optical flow-based image processing, proving its efficiency by presenting optical flow-based solutions for modern challenges in different fields of robotics, such as robot-assisted surgery and food processing. The application domain introduced in this paper is based on a smart robotic gripper designed to support automated robot cells in the meat industry. The gripper is capable of slip detection and secure gripping of soft, slippery tissues with the help of the implemented real-time algorithm.

The article proposes an approach to the determination of small-form objects against a complex background. The proposed approach uses a parallel data processing algorithm that includes the following main modules: a multi-criteria image filtering block built on an objective function that minimizes the weighted average sum of the average square of the first-order finite difference, as well as the average square of the distance difference between the input implementation and the generated data;parallel separation of objects by analyzing local features, statistical analysis of histogram changes, building a mask of object detailing and frequency analysis;the formation of a feature mask and the search for similarity elements by analyzing the generated features. On the test data set, an example of determining small-sized objects on a complex background with their subsequent classification into class objects is presented. The data were obtained by a machine vision system installed on a robotic complex. Data on the required parameters of the formed machine vision systems are given, recommendations on the required parameters of the algorithms are presented.

Although AI systems have been applied in various fields and achieved impressive performance, their safety and reliability are still a big concern. This is especially important for safety-critical tasks. One shared characteristic of these critical tasks is their risk sensitivity, where small mistakes can cause big consequences and even endanger life. There are several factors that could be guidelines for the successful deployment of AI systems in sensitive tasks: (i) failure detection and out-ofdistribution (OOD) detection;(ii) overfitting identification;(iii) uncertainty quantification for predictions;(iv) robustness to data perturbations. These factors are also challenges of current AI systems, which are major blocks for building safe and reliable AI. Specifically, the current AI algorithms are unable to identify common causes for failure detection. Furthermore, additional techniques are required to quantify the quality of predictions. All these contribute to inaccurate uncertainty quantification, which lowers trust in predictions. Hence obtaining accurate model uncertainty quantification and its further improvement are challenging. To address these issues, many techniques have been proposed, such as regularization methods and learning strategies. As vision and language are the most typical data type and have many open source benchmark datasets, this thesis will focus on vision-language data processing for tasks like classification, image captioning, and vision question answering. In this thesis, we aim to build a safeguard by further developing current techniques to ensure the accurate model uncertainty for safety-critical tasks.

Autonomous systems face significant challenges due to fluctuating resources and unstable environments, where traditional redundancy strategies for resilience can be inefficient. We present the Reflex pattern, inspired by biological reflexes, promoting system resilience by dynamically adapting to changing resource conditions. By switching between complex and resource-efficient algorithms based on availability, the pattern optimizes efficient resource utilization without extensive redundancy, ensuring essential functionalities remain operational under constraints. To facilitate adoption, we introduce ReflexLang, a domain-specific language (DSL) enabling automated code generation for reflex-pattern-based systems. We validate the pattern's effectiveness in a drone image processing scenario, demonstrating its potential to enhance operational integrity and resilience.

We present a novel waveguide-integrated eye tracking system for smart glasses, offering a compact and aesthetically pleasing solution by embedding the eye tracking camera within the temple of the eyewear. The system features a front-view capturing capability, enabled by the waveguide, which minimize distortion and occlusion while ensuring consistent imaging conditions. Waveguide systems typically face challenges such as low light efficiency, which introduces white noise, degrading image quality and tracking performance. To address this, we employed lightweight image processing algorithms, including a neural network-based pupil segmentation model to extract elliptical parameters, center positions, shape, and orientation, from noisy, low-resolution images, enabling accurate and robust gaze estimation. In controlled benchtop experiments using an eyeball robot, the system demonstrated promising performance, achieving a mean gaze error of approximately 1 degree, validating its capability to maintain precision despite the challenges associated with waveguide optics. Variability in feature extraction was observed near the edge region of the target object space, emphasizing the need for refinements in waveguide design and feature extraction algorithms. Overall, the proposed waveguide-integrated eye tracking system represents a significant advancement by seamlessly incorporating eye tracking technology into everyday eyewear. Its design maintains user comfort and aesthetics while achieving the precision required for AR/VR applications, enabling intuitive and reliable user interaction.

Automating the process of managing the entrance and exit in parking lots is particularly important not only from a scientific point of view, but also in order to facilitate our everyday life. This paper describes our proposed conceptual model of a parking system based on a Raspberry Pi microcomputer and algorithms for automatic license plate text recognition. The individual modules of the system are described in detail, along with their functions, and an algorithm of the model's operation is proposed and described. For the implementation of a test prototype, infrared sensors were used for the entrance and exit, which, when a car is detected, transmit a signal to the raspberi pie module. It activates a camera that captures an image of the front of the car. The Python implemented software part of the system receives this image and, after preprocessing, returns the recognized registration number as text. This text, together with other information forms a record in a relational database. To improve the performance of the system, it would be good to add to recognition of the text from the registration plate also recognition of the make, model, type and color of the car. © 2024 IEEE.

Improving Efficiency of Spinal Cord image Segmentation Using Transfer Learning Inspired Mask Region-Based Augmented Convolutional Neural Network 1

Spinal cord magnetic resonance images (MRIs) consists of 7 levels of cervical vertebrae, 12 levels of thoracic vertebrae, 5 levels of lumbar vertebrae, one level each of sacrum and coccyx components. Segmentation of these components is essential for effective classification and post-processing analysis of spinal cord images. In order to perform this task, separate algorithms are needed for each of the components. Due to which, their segmentation performance is not uniform, which limits their integration capabilities. Moreover, performance for each type of segmentation has scalability issues, which must be improved via augmentation, aggregation, and machine learning for better clinical use. To resolve these issues, this text proposes design of a novel spinal cord image segmentation model using transfer learning inspired mask region-based augmented convolutional neural network (MRACNN). The proposed model utilizes initial weights from the pre-trained COCO mask RCNN model, and modifies them to incorporate spine, torso, and L1 to L5 spinal cord components. When compared to several state-of-the-art models, it is found that the suggested model has improved region of interest (RoI) extraction and an accuracy of 91% for segmenting these components. Moreover, the proposed model was evaluated on multiple datasets, and a consistent performance was observed. Furthermore, the model was fused with a XRAI-based convolutional neural network which assisted in further improving overall efficiency of segmentation. Fusion of XRAI CNN with MRACNN is capable of achieving segmentation accuracy of 94%, along with better RoI performance when compared with individual models. Delay requirement of the fused model is high, and requires large dataset for training & validation, thus, this text also recommends selective ensembling techniques for redundancy reduction, which assists in improving segmentation speed, while maintaining high segmentation quality. © 2024, The Author(s), under exclusive l
