In recent years, Flapping-wing Micro Aerial Vehicles (FMAVs) have gained increasing attention due to their biomimetic appearance and excellent maneuverability. Equipping them with object detection systems to make them more intelligent is becoming a major trend. This paper proposes an aerial photography small object detection algorithm under adverse weather conditions based on YOLOv8. Using a custom dataset, the concluding mAP50 (mean Average Precision at Intersection over Union threshold of 0.5) reached 0.761, surpassing other datasets. The mAP50 improved from 0.627 to 0.708 compared to model validation on the VisDrone2019 dataset, surpassing other mainstream object detection models.

Many video surveillance systems (VSS) have been already developed for various application domains. Such systems are based on well-elaborated recognition algorithms of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and implemented as Ambient Intelligence (AmI) services in Internet of Things (IoT) environments. In particular, algorithms support such smart VSS functions of video data processing as human detection, human identification, object location within an image, human activity recognition. Many software tools have been developed to implement various recognition algorithms for VSS development. In this paper, we consider the following VSS development problems: a) a generic model of events in video data for a given problem domain, b) a hardware-software architecture for data processing with existing recognition algorithms, and c) a model to construct a required smart VSS function using existing software tools. We introduce our event-oriented approach to solve the above VSS development problems. The approach is experienced in several use cases. Our experimental study shows the applicability of the proposed approach in terms of the accuracy and performance.

Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) has emerged as a pivotal tool in scientific research and engineering, offering unparalleled insights into the micro- and nano-scale world. However, traditional SEM systems often entail bulky setups and complex data acquisition processes, limiting their accessibility and efficiency in various applications. This paper designs a desktop SEM image data acquisition and transmission system based on FPGA. The system is divided into two parts: signal modulation and AD sampling circuit and image data processing and transmission circuit. By designing a circuit to process SE/BSE signals, signal modulation and analog-to-digital conversion are achieved. The sampling data is processed using the internal resources of the FPGA and transmitted to the PC through the USB3.0 high-speed interface, and finally displayed as a grayscale image. The system realizes real-time collection, processing and transmission of SEM signals, providing convenience and efficiency for scientific research and engineering applications. Experimental verification shows that the system performs well and has certain application potential.

Aiming at the current situation of low accuracy of X-ray weld image detection rate of small diameter pipe, the defect recognition algorithm of small diameter pipe weld image based on image segmentation is proposed by analysing the image and combining with convolutional neural network. Firstly, the ROI region is obtained by two-step image segmentation, then the SDR image is obtained by grey density clustering, and finally the SDR image is classified and identified on the basis of analysing and determining the structure of convolutional neural network. The experimental results show that the accuracy of defect detection reaches 95%, the false alarm rate is only 5%, and the recognition speed is fast, which achieves the effective recognition of small diameter pipe X-ray weld images.
