In the additive manufacturing process, the molten pool contains abundant information related to the deposition quality and stability. Real-time monitoring and feature extraction of the molten pool is of great significance for closed-loop control of molten pool and guarantee of consistency and stability of the deposition process. In this study, we develop a visual monitoring system of molten pool for electron beam freeform fabrication(EBF3) and propose corresponding digital image processing algorithms to extract molten pool geometric and identify the wire position and metal transfer state of the deposition. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is verified by deposition experiments under different beam currents and different metal transfer states, and the transfer function model between the molten pool feature and the energy input is established by step response experiments. The proposed molten pool visual monitoring method and model identification work provide the foundation for the closed-loop control of the molten pool. © 2023 IEEE.

To address the challenge of density detection for small-volume unit-labeled quantitative packaged products, a computer vision-based density detection device suitable for small-volume liquids was designed. The device integrates image processing technology with an automatic injection system and micro-volume constant-volume control technology to achieve automatic weighing and volume acquisition of volumetric flasks, thereby enabling automated density measurement of samples. Additionally, a data acquisition and processing software system was developed to minimize human reading and operational errors, improving detection efficiency and measurement accuracy. Experimental results demonstrate that the device achieves a relative expanded uncertainty of $0.00069 \mathrm{g} / \text{cm}^3$ and a measurement repeatability of $0.0005 \text{g/cm}^{3}$ , ensuring high detection precision.

Face recognition is an important technology in the field of digital image processing, which has a crucial impact on subsequent work. This article introduced an example of facial recognition based on the combination of Hadoop algorithm and facial feature extraction. The experimental results were validated in the MATLAB environment and trained using neural networks to improve system performance and adaptability. The test results indicated that the processing speed was between 0.84 and 0.97; the highest resource utilization rate was 0.06, and the lowest was 0.02; the throughput range of facial data was between 13598 and 15479, and the throughput range of user data was between 5037 and 5879. This indicated that the system had fast recognition speed and high-precision image output, and exhibited good fault tolerance and robustness compared to other methods. Exploring facial image recognition and processing algorithms in the Hadoop environment can utilize Hadoop’s distributed computing capabilities to accelerate the processing of large-scale facial image data, achieve fast and efficient processing of large-scale facial image data, accelerate algorithm operation, and possess distributed computing capabilities. Multiple computing nodes can be used for parallel processing to improve algorithm performance.

The parameters of cooling holes on aerospace engine blades, including diameter, angle, and depth, critically influence the blades' cooling efficiency and overall performance. However, due to the intricate structure of the cooling holes, conventional measurement methods often fall short in terms of accuracy and efficiency. Addressing these challenges, this paper employs Shape from Focus (SFF) technology to achieve highprecision measurement of cooling hole diameters. This approach entails capturing a series of images of the cooling holes using an advanced image acquisition platform. To enhance measurement accuracy and efficiency, the Laplace operator is utilized to extract clear regions from the image sequence. This process is further refined by incorporating Region of Interest (ROI) algorithms to select pertinent data related to the cooling holes, thereby facilitating the 3D reconstruction of these features. Compared to traditional methods, this technique significantly improves computational efficiency and processing speed while enhancing the accuracy and stability of image processing. The method achieves a measurement error of less than 0.005 mm and a relative error of less than 1.5% when measuring the diameters of cooling holes, thereby providing robust support for industrial inspection and quality control. Moreover, it holds broad application prospects and substantial practical value.

This study addresses the significant issue of image blur through image restoration techniques that reduce or remove blur and detect blurry regions, improving image quality and analysis potential. Utilizing FPGA-based digital hardware systems, the research leverages FPGA-supported systems like ZYNQ and ARM, using the Advanced eXtensible Interface (Axi) and Advanced Microcontroller Bus Architecture (AMBA) for streamlined device communication. The design incorporates specialized Intellectual Property (IP) cores such as Square Root (Sqrt) and Shift RAM, tailored to overcome the limitations of development cycles and processing algorithms, focusing on portability across various platforms including domestic FPGAs. The practical implementation features modules for axis-stream transmission, RGB to YUV conversion, image smoothing using Gaussian, mean, and median filters, advanced image processing with Sobel edge detection, and erosion-dilation modules. A ZYNQ verification system with an OV5640 camera and HDMI output substantiates the functionality and efficiency of the designed IP core, which is further analyzed for resource and power consumption using a High-Level Synthesis (HLS) tool. The study successfully demonstrates a robust IP core for blurry image processing, significantly enhancing the field of image processing and embedded systems, laying a strong groundwork for future advancements and porting endeavors, and highlighting the efficacy of FPGA-based image processing solutions. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

The field of image encryption is studied to encrypt and hide the image effectively, and the most critical thing is whether the image can be restored without any loss of details or distortion. Classical cryptography provides good encryption and decryption algorithms for one-dimensional data streams, encrypting plaintext data into ciphertext data for the purpose of confidentiality. Although we can consider the image data as a one-dimensional data stream and use traditional encryption algorithms for encryption, these algorithms often ignore some special properties of digital images such as two-dimensional self-similarity, large data volume, etc. Moreover, traditional encryption algorithms can hardly meet the real-time requirements in network transmission. Therefore, we improve the traditional encryption techniques for digital images, and process the images by means of Arnold matrix transform, two-dimensional logistic chaos mapping, and DWT and DCT transforms, and experimentally verify that the method has faster and lower loss degree, which confirms the feasibility of its application in the field of professional encryption.

Addressing the growing challenges posed by increasing vehicles and stringent traffic violations, many vehicle number plates go undetected while passing through toll booths and traffic lights. Thus it creates the need for a vehicle number plate recognition system. Existing systems employing ANPR algorithms utilize MATLAB and K-Nearest neighbour algorithms for image processing. Drawbacks include limitations in adapting to dynamic environments, Real time recognition, handling multiple vehicles, slow processing speeds, incapability of multiple object detection in single frame. The paper focuses on Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR), employing specialized cameras and advanced image processing and using YOLOv8 for object detection and extracting license plate information from video feeds using EasyOCR. The noisy data generated during character recognition is filtered out using Regex based algorithm. The system integrates with centralized databases for real-time vehicle information access for users. The same database is used to automate e-challan updation, contributing to traffic management by swiftly issuing fines for rule violations. The proposed video-based processing system achieves number plate detection using YOLOv8 and storage of vehicle number plates in a centralized MongoDB database with an accuracy achieved of 96% in license plate detection and reduces noisy data using algorithm. It also enables real-time data retrieval through a user interface using Reactjs as frontend and is also connected to the MongoDB database for precise and user-friendly access in modern traffic systems.

The key to automatic focusing method based on image processing is to construct a fast and accurate focus quality evaluation function. The method in this article introduces Pulse Coupled Neural Network processing. Using the characteristics of the network, through the enhanced image, the grayscale sum can be conveniently used to characterize clarity, thereby simplifying calculations and enhancing the real-time performance of focus control. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

High-voltage circuit breakers stand as pivotal components within power systems. Among them, terminal connectors, integral to the circuit breaker actuation mechanism, often operate in highly vibrational environments. Prolonged exposure to such vibrations can degrade their performance, detaching wire connections and resulting in compromised contacts. This, in turn, severely impacts the circuit breaker's actuation process. This study focuses on a specific type of terminal connector, using the degradation in gap distance as a performance parameter. It undertakes sinusoidal vibration tests, integrating edge contour extraction techniques with image processing. A pixel-level measurement approach rooted in the Log operator is introduced, enabling the prediction of the duration of terminal loosening faults due to aging. Results demonstrate that the gap distance identified through Log operator edge detection deviates by 0.235 mm from actual measurements, with an error rate of 10.23%. This method effectively detects finely defined edges of well-focused objects, moderately suppressing salt-and-pepper noise, thereby yielding enhanced discernment accuracy. Moreover, predictions derived from the logistic model for loosening fault duration differ from actual effective values by less than 1.55 hours. This capability allows for the timely identification of terminal connector wire bundle looseness, facilitating early fault warnings. © 2023 IEEE.

The front-end feature extraction part of the ORB-SLAM2 algorithm extracts feature points through the use of a fixed resolution size grid for each layer of the pyramid image, causing the loss of some high-quality feature points and thus affecting the effectiveness of feature point matching. In the ORB-SLAM2, the feature selection method used is an approach based on the division of quadtrees, which suffers from a too-deep division, resulting in the poor real-time performance of the overall algorithm. To solve these problems, this paper come up with a feature extraction algorithm (OIPQ) based on ORB, image Pyramid, and Quadtree Partition. It dynamically adjusts the grid size based on the number of feature points allocated in each layer of the image pyramid and also restricts the quadtree partitioning depth based on the number of feature points in each layer. These improvements aim to enhance the algorithm’s efficiency.
