Dithering technologies for digital halftoning originate from Roberts' modulation by pseudo-noise. At present, Roberts modulation is not used because of its randomness. However, blue noise dithering methods are now being paid attention to the fastness of algorithms and error diffusion-like image qualities. In this paper, the visual noises and the gray scale reproducibilities by dithering are analyzed back to the Roberts and an improved pseudo-noise is discussed.

When template matching is used to detect printing defects in industrial production, the characters to be tested are not consistent with the main structure of template characters, which leads to detection errors and false defects. In order to solve this problem, this paper proposes a character image matching optimization based on artificial bee colony algorithm, using the improved artificial bee colony algorithm to find the optimal parameter model and optimize the parameter model, so that the character image matching effect is the best. The experimental results show that the improved artificial bee colony algorithm can obtain good image registration results in a relatively short time. © 2021 Institute of Physics Publishing. Nowadays it becomes more and more critical to process the increasingly large amounts of data in timely manner. In order to meet this requirement and ensure the reliable processing of streaming data, a variety of distributed stream processing architectures and platforms have been developed, which handles the fundamental task of allocating processing tasks to the currently available physical resources and routing streaming data between these resources. However, many stream processing systems lack an intelligent scheduling mechanism, in which their default schedulers allocate tasks without taking resource demands and availability, or the transfer latency between resources into consideration. Besides stream processing has a strict request for latency. Thus it's important to give latency guarantee for distributed stream processing. In this paper, we propose a new algorithm for stream processing with latency guarantee, the algorithm both consider transfer latency and resource demand in the process of task allocation. Extensive experiments verify the correctness and effectiveness of our approach. Under the condition of satisfying the latency constraints, the heuristic algorithm AHA on average, reduce more than 21.3% and 58.9% resources compared with the greedy and the round-robin algorithms.

Remote Sensing (RS) data processing is characterized by massive remote sensing images and increasing amount of algorithms of higher complexity. Parallel programming for data-intensive applications like massive remote sensing image processing on parallel systems is bound to be especially trivial and challenging. We propose a C++ template mechanism enabled generic parallel programming skeleton for these remote sensing applications in high performance clusters. It provides both programming templates for distributed RS data and generic parallel skeletons for RS algorithms. Through one-side communication primitives provided by MPI, the distributed RS data template could provide a global view of the big RS data whose sliced data blocks are scattered among the distributed memory of cluster nodes. Moreover, by data serialization and RMA (Remote Memory Access), the data templates could also offer a simple and effective way to distribute and communicate massive remote sensing data with complex data structures. Furthermore, the generic parallel skeletons implement the recurring patterns of computation, performance optimization and pass the user-defined sequential functions as parameters of templates for type genericity. With the implemented skeletons, Developers without extensive parallel computing technologies can implement efficient parallel remote sensing programs without concerning for parallel computing details. Through experiments on remote sensing applications, we confirmed that our templates were productive and efficient.

In general, computed tomography (CT) tries to reconstruct a cross-section image by gathering projection data in multiple directions. However, there are several cases where angles of the projection have been strictly limited. In this case, the missing information should be estimated correctly in order to create a highly accurate reconstructed image. This problem is called "sparse CT" and known as one of the typical inverse problems. Since amount of information needed for reconstructing an image is missing, it needs to find several high quality solutions in order to estimate a true image. There have been several approaches proposed for solving this problem and they could achieve a certain result in the case of a low missing ratio problem, while there have been few approaches for the problem being large missing ratio. Therefore there is no established standard method for this problem. In this study, a new approach based on the Gerchberg-Saxton algorithm (GS algorithm) and evolutionary multi-criterion optimization (EMO) is proposed for sparse CT. The GS algorithm is known as a powerful technique for recovering the missing information in the field of phase retrieval problem. The proposed approach tries to find several solutions being high quality by using the framework of EMO. Also, the feature of our approach is not only the combination of GS and EMO, but also the implementation of genetic operators considering the characteristics of Fourier spectrum. Through applying to some typical images, the effectiveness of the proposed approach was investigated.

High performance computing (HPC) systems underwent a significant increase in their processing capabilities. Modern HPC systems combine large numbers of homogeneous and heterogeneous computing resources. Scalability is, therefore, an essential aspect of scientific applications to efficiently exploit the massive parallelism of modern HPC systems. This work introduces an efficient version of the parallel spin-image algorithm (PSIA), called EPSIA. The PSIA is a parallel version of the spin-image algorithm (SIA). The (P)SIA is used in various domains, such as 3D object recognition, categorization, and 3D face recognition. EPSIA refers to the extended version of the PSIA that integrates various well-known dynamic loop scheduling (DLS) techniques. The present work: (1) Proposes EPSIA, a novel flexible version of PSIA;(2) Showcases the benefits of applying DLS techniques for optimizing the performance of the PSIA;(3) Assesses the performance of the proposed EPSIA by conducting several scalability experiments. The performance results are promising and show that using well-known DLS techniques, the performance of the EPSIA outperforms the performance of the PSIA by a factor of 1.2 and 2 for homogeneous and heterogeneous computing resources, respectively.

The study focuses on the utilization of remote sensing data to analyze and detect deforestation patterns, with an emphasis on the extraction of key parameters such as vegetation cover change, forest loss, and land use dynamics. Various image processing methods, encompassing supervised and unsupervised classification, object-based image analysis, and change detection algorithms, are discussed in the context of their applicability to deforestation monitoring. Adobe Illustrator provides many tools for a user to create art works. The tools also provide many parameters or options that the user can tune up or select. This study focuses on black-and-white drawings ("Sumi-e" or "Suiboku-ga" in Japanese) on Adobe Illustrator. In order to create black-and-white drawings, the user usually has to select a proper brush from preset brushes Adobe Illustrator provides. But the selection is difficult for the user, especially beginners. This paper proposes a supporting plug-in tool for the user to decide and apply the proper brush. The plug-in can accept an onomatopoeic utterance input which expresses the user's own imagination or impression of the brush. Onomatopoeia is well known as a useful figurative expression for Japanese people to describe their own imagination or impression for something. This paper reports the configuration of the plug-in and illustrated some examples of black-and-white drawings created by using the plug-in. The architecture of the plug-in consists of CNN(convolution neural network), database of brush samples, brush image interpolation, fuzzy-based image expansion and contraction, and so on. CNN allows input of arbitrary onomatopoeias. The brush image interpolation generates a new brush from brush samples in the database. The fuzzy-based image expansion and contraction transforms the new brush into a natural-looked brush form with less jaggy.

High demand of optical inspection is increased to guarantee manufacture and product quality in industries. To overcome limitations of the manual defect inspection, machine vision inspection is needed to efficiently and accurately screen the undesired defects on various products. Recently, the transparent substrate is becoming widely used for manufacturing optics and electronics products. For high-grade transparent substrates, development of machine vision inspection has increased its importance for inspecting defects after production. To perform machine vision inspection for the transparent substrate, the exposure procedure and analysis of the capturing image are critical challenges due to its properties of reflection and transparency. However, conventional machine vision systems are performed for optical inspection based on two-dimensional (2D) intensity images from the camera-based photography without phase and depth information, and may decrease inspection accuracy as well as defect classification. Conversely, instead of the 2D intensity image by camera-based photography with complicated algorithms and time-consuming computation, digital holography is a novel three-dimensional (3D) imaging technique to rapidly access the whole wavefront information of the target sample for optical inspection and complex defect analysis. In this study, we propose digital holographic imaging of transparent target sample for optical inspection in learning-based pattern classification, which a novel complex defect inspection model is presented for multiple defects identification of the transparent substrate based on 3D diffraction characteristics and machine learning algorithm. Both theoretical and experimental results will be presented and analyzed to verify the effective inspection and high accuracy.

Few-shot learning has become essential for producing models that generalize from few examples. In this work, we identify that metric scaling and metric task conditioning are important to improve the performance of few-shot algorithms. Our analysis reveals that simple metric scaling completely changes the nature of few-shot algorithm parameter updates. Metric scaling provides improvements up to 14% in accuracy for certain metrics on the mini-imagenet 5-way 5-shot classification task. We further propose a simple and effective way of conditioning a learner on the task sample set, resulting in learning a task-dependent metric space. Moreover, we propose and empirically test a practical end-to-end optimization procedure based on auxiliary task co-training to learn a task-dependent metric space. The resulting few-shot learning model based on the task-dependent scaled metric achieves state of the art on mini-imagenet. We confirm these results on another few-shot dataset that we introduce in this paper based on CIFAR100.
