Under the development of digital imaging technology, this application can be put into practice. In this paper, the optical engine, a key technique in the digital imaging, is introduced. Then the basic principle and technical difficulties of optical engine are discussed in detail. Object detection from remotesensingimages has inherent difficulties due to cluttered backgrounds and noisy regions from the urban area in high resolution images. Detection of objects with regular geometry, such as circles from an image uses strict feature based detection. Using region based segmentation techniques such as K-Means has the inherent disadvantage of knowing the number of classes apriori. Contour based techniques such as Active contour models, sometimes used in remotesensing also has the problem of knowing the approximate location of the region and also the noise will hinder its performance. A template based approach is not scale and rotation invariant with different resolutions and using multiple templates is not a feasible solution. This paper proposes a methodology for object detection based on mean shift segmentation and non-parametric clustering. Mean shift is a non-parametric segmentation technique, which in its inherent nature is able to segment regions according to the desirable properties like spatial and spectral radiance of the object. A prior knowledge about the shape of the object is used to extract the desire object. A hierarchical clustering method is adopted to cluster the objects having similar shape and spatial features. The proposed methodology is applied on high resolution EO images to extract circular objects. The methodology found to be better and robust even in the cluttered and noisy background. The results are also evaluated using different evaluation measures.

In remotesensing, one is often interested in not only ascertaining the presence of certain resources or objects of interest, but also in determining their locations. Ground registration involves locating the target in sensor coordinates and performing a series of coordinate transformations to convert this location to earth coordinates. One application of this would be in preparing a scaled map showing the precise locations of the resources/objects of interest. To improve ground registration accuracy one can combine multiple looks from a single sensor and/or looks from multiple sensors. One advantage in utilizing multiple sensors is that one can fuse the measurements in such a way as to exploit the best characteristics of each sensor. This paper is applied to vehicular mounted remotesensing and presents the benefits obtained when combining radar and IR as a means of determining ground coordinates of the objects of interest.

We introduce the new notion of multivalued component-tree, that extends the classical component-tree initially devoted to grey-level images, in the mathematical morphology framework. We prove that multivalued component-trees can model images whose values are hierarchically organized. We also show that they can be efficiently built from standard component-tree construction algorithms, and involved in antiextensive filtering procedures. The relevance and usefulness of multivalued component-trees is illustrated by an applicative example on hierarchically classified remotesensingimages.

image thresholding is a common segmentation technique with applications in various fields, such as computer vision, patternrecognition, microscopy, remotesensing, and biology. The selection of threshold values for segmenting pixels into foreground and background regions is usually based on subjective assumptions or user judgments under empirical rules or manually determined. This work describes and evaluates six effective threshold selection strategies for image segmentation based on global optimization methods: genetic algorithms, particle swarm, simulated annealing, and pattern search. Experiments are conducted on several images to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed methodology.

A multistage statistical pattern classification algorithm is proposed. The algorithm consists of three consecutive stages: (1) parallelpiped classification, (2) a new method for ellipsoidal separation, (3) Mahalanobis minimum distance classification. The multistage classifier is designed such that points not classified by a given stage are considered by the next one. The performance of the classifier is tested using a synthetic image. It has been found that this approach reduces computer classification time at a reasonable expense of classification accuracy. The algorithm performs well for the classification of remotesensingimages and is implemented on a microcomputer.
