Compressive sensing (CS) uses a relatively small number of non-traditional samples in the form of randomized projections to reconstruct sparse or compressible signals. The Hough transform is often used to find lines and other parameterized shapes in images. This paper shows how CS can be used to find parameterized shapes in images, by exploiting sparseness in the Hough transform domain. The utility of the CS-based method is demonstrated for finding lines and circles in noisy images, and then examples of processing GPR and seismic data for tunnel detection are presented.

Shape representation and retrieval of stored shape models are becoming increasingly more prominent in fields such as medical imaging, molecular biology and remote sensing. We present a novel framework that directly addresses the necessity for a rich and compressible shape representation, while simultaneously providing an accurate method to index stored shapes. The core idea is to represent point-set shapes as the square root of probability densities expanded in a wavelet basis. We then use this representation to develop a natural similarity metric that respects the geometry of these probability distributions, i.e. under the wavelet expansion, densities are points on a unit hypersphere and the distance between densities is given by the separating arc length. The process uses a linear assignment solver for non-rigid alignment between densities prior to matching; this has the connotation of ldquoslidingrdquo wavelet coefficients akin to the sliding block puzzle LpsilaAne Rouge. We illustrate the utility of this framework by matching shapes from the MPEG-7 data set and provide comparisons to other similarity measures, such as Euclidean distance shape distributions.

In this paper we propose a new denoising technique based on improved adaptive directional lifting wavelet transform (ADL).Using this method can separate noise from image signal distinctly by the extraordinary ability of ADL to represent the edges and ***,in the smooth regions of a noisy image,ADL is expensive and ***,we construct the ADL in an anti-noise way based on pixel pattern *** with the traditional ADL for image compression,there is no restriction of side-information,so the optimal strategies of direction determination and transformation can be selected by the judgment of different pixel *** results show that the proposed technique outperforms traditional wavelet and lifting scheme in both PSNR and visual quality,especially for the images with rich texture features such as remote sensing images.

Poor visibility conditions due to murky water, bad weather, dust and smoke severely impede the performance of vision systems. Passive methods have been used to restore scene contrast under moderate visibility by digital post-processing. However, these methods are ineffective when the quality of acquired images is poor to begin with. In this work, we design active lighting and sensing systems for controlling light transport before image formation, and hence obtain higher quality data. First, we present a technique of polarized light striping based on combining polarization imaging and structured light striping. We show that this technique out-performs different existing illumination and sensing methodologies. Second, we present a numerical approach for computing the optimal relative sensor-source position, which results in the best quality image. Our analysis accounts for the limits imposed by sensor noise.

We present a Genetic Algorithm based feature selection approach according to which feature subsets are represented by individuals of an evolving population. Evolution is controlled by a fitness function taking into account statistical properties of the input data in the subspace represented by each individual, and aims to select the smallest feature subset that optimizes class separability. The originality of our method lies particularly in the definition of the evaluation function. The proposed approach has been tested on a standard database of handwritten digits, showing to be effective both for reducing the number of features used and for improving classifier performance.

This wort focuses on internal gray level based evaluation of image registration results. The motivation is to provide all approach for self-diagnosis in the scope of a patient alignment system based on rigid registration of real and reconstructed X-ray images. As an automatic system should provide expressive indicators for the correctness of the outcome, we propose a method to estimate the probability for the resulting transformations to lie within a predefined window of acceptable values. Based purely on image gray values, the approach is independent from previous knowledge about the images. By registration of corresponding fragments of both images we generate redundancy and define the probability density of the resulting transformations. The proposed method is tested comparing digital reconstructed radiographs (DRRs) to X-ray images. By introducing geometric and radiometric deviations we show that a reliable self-diagnosis is possible.

The simulation of SAR images provides valuable information used in many fields such as mission planning or the design of feature extraction algorithms. Simulation is in general a trade-off between achievement of appro-ximation to reality as close as possible and minimization of computational load respectively processing time. For real-time application, a fast but suboptimal approach might be optimal, whereas for thorough parameter tuning of image processing or image analysis algorithms, more sophisticated methods would be required. In this paper, three SAR simulators using different simulation concepts tailored for a variety of tasks are introduced and the simulation results for simple building models and complex urban scenes are compared. To evaluate the realism of the simulation methods, the results are compared to a real SAR image of an urban scene. On this basis the possibilities and limitations of the different SAR simulation concepts are discussed.

image registration is an important task in the field of computer vision and pattern recognition. And the applied values is also reflected in the study of remote sensing, medical imaging and the object indentifying of multi-sensor fusion. In this paper, a new subpixel registration methods which based on wavelet analysis was proposed by improving polynomial subdivision algorithm and pixel level registration. Furthermore, the precision of the method was also analysed after the process. The simulation results shows that the method in this paper achieves good effects and reaches the precision of sub-pixel.

A new approach to optimization of the signal processing techniques for enhanced imaging with remote sensing (RS) data based on the concept of descriptive experiment design regularization (DEDR) is addressed. The RS imaging problem is treated as a nonlinear statistical inverse problem of reconstructing the spatial spectrum pattern (SSP) of the wavefield sources distributed in the environment via processing the RS data signals distorted in the stochastic measurement channel. We propose to aggregate the paradigms of statistical estimation theory, experiment design and descriptive regularization to solve the SSP reconstruction problem with the system-level and model-level uncertainties attributed to imperfect system calibration and random signal perturbations in inhomogeneous propagation medium. Advanced robust adaptive signal processing techniques that employ the proposed DEDR method for enhanced RS imaging in both certain and uncertain operational scenarios are developed and evaluated through computer simulations.

In wireless sensor networks, to obtain a long network lifetime is a fundamental issue while without sacrificing crucial aspects of quality of service (area coverage, sensing reliability, and network connectivity). In this paper, we present a Voronoi-based sleeping configuration to deal with different sensing radii and location error. With our proposed sleeping candidate condition, redundant sensors are optionally identified and scheduled to sleep in order to extend the system lifetime while maintaining adequate sensor redundancy to tolerate sensor failures, energy depletions, and location error. Simulation results show that there is a tradeoff among energy conservation, area coverage, and fault tolerance, which varies between different sleeping candidate conditions.
