Quantification of tracer kinetics is often accomplished from time-activity curves of a region of interest of dynamic PET images. The choice of reconstruction method may affect the time-activity curves and hence the estimated kinetic parameters. Several studies have shown that statistical-iterative methods, due to non-negativity constrains, may exhibit a quantification bias in low activity regions and thus these methods, in spite of the better image quality they provide, are seldom used to estimate kinetic constants. By means of realistic dynamic simulations, we have investigated the quantitative properties of statistical-iterative (OSEM, both 2D and 3D) and FBP reconstruction methods and the accuracy of the kinetic parameters derived from images reconstructed with each algorithm. We focus on the procedure to fit kinetic constants to data. Our results show that, with appropriate measures to account for quantification bias, iterative reconstructions may be suited to derive kinetic constants from dynamic PET acquisitions.

This work is motivated by two important trends in consumer computing: (i) the growing pervasiveness of mobile computing devices, and (ii) the users' desire for increasingly complex but readily acquired and manipulated information content. Specifically, we develop and describe a system for 3D model creation of an object, using only a standard mobile device such as a smart phone. Our approach applies the structured light projection methodology and exploits multiple image input such as frames from a video sequence. In comparison with previous work, a significant further challenge addressed here is that of lower quality input data and limited hardware (processing power and memory, camera and projector quality). Novelties include: (i) a comparison of projection pattern detection approaches in the context of a mobile environment - a robust method combining colour detection and a phase congruency descriptor is evaluated, (ii) a model for single view reconstruction which exploits epipolar, coplanarity and topological constraints, (iii) the use of mobile device sensor data in the iterative closest point algorithm used to register multiple partial 3D reconstructions, and (iv) two heuristics for determining the order in which buffered single view based reconstructions are merged. Our experiments demonstrate that visually appealing results are obtained in a speedy manner which does not require specialist knowledge or expertise from the user.

Scattered photons highly degrade the quality of X-ray images and their effect has become more important due to the increasing interest in cone-beam geometry for the acquisition of CT (CBCT) and micro-CT data. The random nature of scatter events and the great influence of the sample suggest that the most accurate methods for their estimation are Monte Carlo (MC) techniques, but their use is usually hampered by the large computation time required to obtain an acceptable estimation of the scattered radiation. We present an approach for scatter correction in CBCT by MC estimation, speeding up the computation by means of general purpose graphic processing units (GPGPU) and developing a framework for the automatic correction and reconstruction of projection data. The method consists of five stages: FDK reconstruction of the original data; histogram based automatic segmentation of the volume assigning a material and density to each voxel; fast MC estimation of the scatter signal; denoising of the independent scatter components and subtraction from original data; and FDK reconstruction of the corrected data. Every stage runs in a GPGPU using Nvidia CUD A. The MC stage is based on the MC-GPU code. To simulate polychromatic X-ray beams, the Spektr model is used to generate the source spectrum. Photon scattering is forced in order to reduce the number of events needed to obtain an acceptable scatter image weighting the photon histories to assure the correctness of the result. Further reduction in the variance is obtained by split the photon in several virtual photons which are forced point to the detector and are transported with no further interaction to the detector's surface. Furthermore, the divergence of the execution path of GPGPU kernels has been minimized. These techniques achieve a reduction of the variance of the scatter signal of two orders of magnitude and the final efficiency is improved by a factor of ~30.

Dynamic cardiac magnetic resonance imaging in small animals is an important tool in the study of cardiovascular diseases. The reduction of the long acquisition times required for cardiovascular applications is crucial to achieve good spatiotemporal resolution and signal-to-noise ratio. Nowadays there are many acceleration techniques which can reduce acquisition time, including compressed sensing technique. Compressed sensing allows image reconstruction from undersampled data, by means of a non linear reconstruction which minimizes the total variation of the image. The recently appeared Split Bregman methodology has proved to be more computationally efficient to solve this problem than classic optimization methods. In the case of dynamic magnetic resonance imaging, compressed sensing can exploit time sparsity by the minimization of total variation across both space and time. In this work, we propose and validate the Split Bregman method to minimize spatial and time total variation, and apply this method to accelerate cardiac cine acquisitions in rats. We found that applying a quasi-random variable density pattern along the phase-encoding direction, accelerations up to a factor 5 are possible with low error. In the future, we expect to obtain higher accelerations using spatiotemporal undersampling.

We studied the application of statistical reconstruction algorithms, namely maximum likelihood and least squares methods, to the problem of event reconstruction in a dual phase liquid xenon detector. An iterative method was developed for in-situ reconstruction of the PMT light response functions from calibration data taken with an uncollimated γ-ray source. Quantitative analysis of dynamic cardiac PET studies provides useful diagnostic information regarding different heart diseases. To correctly perform the kinetic analysis, tracer time-activity curves (TAC) must be precisely extracted from the chosen tissue on the imaging data. In this work we present an alternative clustering algorithm for segmentation of dynamic studies using a leader-follower clustering approach, in which the number of clusters is unknown.

Wetlands which are the planet's most important ecosystem have high scientific research-value and will bring us both social and economic ***,duing to various natural and man made factors,more and more wetlands have converted to agricultural land and urban ***,the changes in wetlands' area and quantity have caused public's widespread *** wetland's management and protection will benefit from the improvement of the wetland information abstraction's *** the classification precision of the RS image is a difficult problem because of the small scale of remote sensing *** paper which is about the wetland remote sensing images extraction is based on the LANDSAT ETM remote sensing data,and the result of the Wavelet Packet reconstruction will be used as the sample set of the Active Support Vector *** the end of this paper,a comparative analysis of the experimental results will show between the single classification(SVM,BPNN) method and the solution which is proposed in this *** method can be proved to obtain very good classification results through many experiments on remote sensing image classification I've *** results show that this algorithm's classification accuracy is better than the single classification'***,in the active learning process,the bad influence of the image's isolated and intersection points on the classification is avoided,and the number of training samples are reduced greatly.

Symmetry provides a source of redundancy which can be exploited in image reconstruction. In particular, internal symmetries in molecules can help to compensate for the loss of Fourier phase information in macromolecular x-ray crystallography. Symmetry projections are incorporated into iterative projection algorithms for reconstruction of macromolecular electron densities from x-ray diffraction amplitudes from crystals. The effects of interpolation are studied and the algorithms are applied to reconstruction of an icosahedral virus.

In this paper, we describe a practical implementation of an image reconstruction method designed to generate a map of the brightness distribution from data consisting of squared visibilities and complex closure amplitudes resulting from observations of an astronomical target with a broadband, multichannel, spatial optical interferometer. Given the data, the method estimates the true brightness distribution with a model sampled on a rectangular grid of discrete positions on the sky with the assumption that the model intensities in the region not defined by the discrete positions being described by bilinear interpolation of the discrete intensities. The developed image reconstruction method has been applied to real observational data obtained from existing optical interferometer facilities.
