Attitude information of space targets is an important basis for judging whether their working state is stable. In this paper, an attitude estimation method of space targets based on 3D reconstruction of ISAR image spindle is proposed. First, the Radon transform is used to extract the main axis and the sun plate axis of space targets from the ISAR image. Then, two ISAR images are used to reconstruct the three-dimensional axial, and the rolling axis and pitch axis of the target in the orbit coordinate system are acquired. Finally, the flying attitude of space target is calculated by Euler angle and coordinate system definition. This method can estimate the 3D attitude angle of space target more accurately. The validity of the method is verified by dynamic simulation data. (C) 2019 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.v.

In this paper, a novel technique combining intensity and range data is presented Passive (intensity based) and active (range based) techniques used for 3D reconstruction have their limitations and separately, none of these techniques can solve all the problems inherent to the modelling of real environments. Our technique aims to demonstrate how both intensity and range data can be registered and combined into a long-range 3D system. The procedure needs an initial estimation for internal and external camera parameters for two or more intensity images. The technique uses passive triangulation of the intensity data to refine the initial camera calibrations and ensure a good registration of range and video data sets. Once a reliable calibration is achieved, corresponding points from the intensity images are triangulated and introduced in the original range data With our technique, it is possible to complete the models in areas where data is missing or to increase the resolution in areas of high interest and 3D contents.

A new approach for imaging that is solely based on the time of flight of photons coming from the entire imaged scene, combined with a novel machine learning algorithm for image reconstruction: a spiking convolutional neural network (SCNN) named Spike-SPI (Spiking - Single Pixel imager). The approach uses a single point detector and the corresponding time-counting electronics, which provide the arrival time of photons in the form of spikes distributed over time. This data is transformed into a temporal histogram containing the number of photons per arrival time. A SCNN that converts the 1D temporal histograms into a 3D image (2D image with depth map) by exploiting the feature extraction capabilities of convolutional neural networks (CNNs), the high dimensional compressed latent space representations of a variational encoder-decoder network structure, and the asynchronous processing capabilities of a spiking neural network (SNN). The performance of the proposed SCNN is analysed to demonstrate the state-of-the-art feature extraction capabilities of CNNs and the low latency asynchronous processing of SNNs that offer both higher throughput and higher accuracy in image reconstruction from the ToF data, when compared to standard ANNs. The results of Spike-SPI show an increase in spatial accuracy of 15% over then ANN, using the Intersection of Union (IoU) for the objects in the scene. While also delivering a 100% increase over then ANN in object reconstruction signal to noise ratio (RSNR) from similar to 3dB to similar to 6dB. These results are also consistent across a range of IRF (Instrument Response Functions) values and photo counts, highlighting the robust nature of the new network structure. Moreover, the asynchronous processing nature of the spiking neurons allow for a faster throughput and less computational overhead, benefiting from the operational sparsity in the single point sensor.

The paper deals with projective shape and motion reconstruction by subspace iterations. A prerequisite of factorization-style algorithms is that all feature points need be observed in all images, a condition which is hardly realistic in real videos. We therefore address the problem of estimating structure and motion considering missing features. The proposed algorithm does not require initialization and uniformly handles all available data. The computed solution is global in the sense that it does not merge partial solutions incrementally or hierarchically. The global cost due to the factorization is further amended by local constraints to regularize and stabilize the estimations. It is shown how both costs can be jointly minimized in the presence of unobserved points. By synthetic and real image sequences with up to 60% missing data we demonstrate that our algorithm is accurate and reliable. © 2011 IEEE.

This paper evaluates the performance of patterns used to solve a very challenging problem in close range photogrammetry and computer vision when the surface of the object or scene is textureless. Three dimensional surface modeling from arbitrary viewpoints is an active field of research due to its wide range of applications. However, structure-from-motion, a common approach for surface modeling of the objects that are not well textured fails due to insufficient discriminative features in the images and hence results in incomplete and inaccurate three dimensional model of the surface. Mainly, two approaches have been used widely for 3D reconstruction of such kind of objects. First uses a structured light or coded pattern, and second uses a random pattern that provides artificial markers on the surface of interesting object. In this paper, second approach is implemented that helps point-based features, such as SIFT, to find discriminative features from arbitrary viewpoints taken from the same object surface. We evaluate the performance of patterns with respect to quality of reconstruction of the surface of a textureless object. At the end, a comparison scheme between reconstructed model and the ground truth data is also presented and results are evaluated.

We consider image reconstruction in full-field photoacoustic tomography, where 2D projections of the full 3D acoustic pressure distribution at a given time T > 0 are collected. We discuss existing results on the stability and uniqueness of the resulting image reconstruction problem and review existing reconstruction algorithms. Open challenges are also mentioned. Additionally, we introduce novel one-step reconstruction methods allowing for a variable speed of sound. We apply preconditioned iterative and variational regularization methods to the one-step formulation. Numerical results using the one-step formulation are presented, together with a comparison with the previous two-step approach for full-field photoacoustic tomography.

Off-axis digital holography with a-priori known information on the reference wave allows phase reconstruction from a single interference pattern, thus, being a promising tool for investigations of dynamic processes. The paper presents the method aimed for estimation of angles between the object and reference wave from a single digital hologram. This information is essential for hologram reconstruction using a-priori known data on the reference wave and may also be beneficial in other reconstruction methods. The technique was validated using a specially prepared phase object;the recording was performed at various angles between the object and reference beams. Main factors affecting the reconstructed phase quality were analyzed.

This paper presents a method for recovering 3D points from image correspondences using surface characteristics such as mean and Gaussian curvatures. We first give an analysis about how to estimate the mean and Gaussian curvatures from a set of 3D points, and then incorporate the curvature estimation scheme into the reconstruction of 3D points where an optimization process is formulated with the surface curvatures modeled as soft constraints. To analyze the performance of proposed 3D reconstruction method, some simulated data, including the points on surfaces of a plane, a cylinder and a sphere, is generated to test this approach. The experimental results demonstrated that the surface curvature can indeed improve the accuracy of 3D point reconstruction. Some real image data is also tested and the results also support this point. © 2011 IEEE.

The single-shot compressed ultrafast photography (CUP) camera is the fastest receive-only camera in the world. In this work, we introduce an external CCD camera and a space-and intensity-constrained (SIC) reconstruction algorithm to improve the image quality of CUP. The CCD camera takes a time-unsheared image of the dynamic scene. Unlike the previously used unconstrained algorithm, the proposed algorithm incorporates both spatial and intensity constraints, based on the additional prior information provided by the external CCD camera. First, a spatial mask is extracted from the time-unsheared image to define the zone of action. Second, an intensity threshold constraint is determined based on the similarity between the temporally projected image of the reconstructed datacube and the time-unsheared image taken by the external CCD. Both simulation and experimental studies showed that the SIC reconstruction improves the spatial resolution, contrast, and general quality of the reconstructed image.

The demand of 3D city modeling has been increasing in many applications such as urban planing, computer gaming with realistic city environment, car navigation system with showing 3D city map, virtual city tourism inviting future visitors to a virtual city walkthrough and others. We proposed a simple method for reconstructing a 3D urban landscape from airborne LiDAR point cloud data. The automatic reconstruction method of a 3D urban landscape was implemented by the integration of all connected regions, which were extracted and extruded from the altitude mask images. These mask images were generated from the gray scale LiDAR image by the altitude threshold ranges. In this study we demonstrated successfully in the case of Kanazawa city center scene by applying the proposed method to the airborne LiDAR point cloud data.
