A simple and flexible higher-order mesh development method is proposed for 2D images and structures with MATLAB. This approach first creates linear triangular meshes in Gmsh of the imported 2D images and structures. The resulting 2D triangular meshed images and structures are exported to MATLAB from Gmsh as a .msh file. The proposed technique then generates and visualizes higher-order triangular elements with MATLAB. The resulting meshes can be used to solve a variety of problems using finite element analysis and computational fluid dynamics. The essential inputs for this mesh generator are only .msh files from Gmsh. The results of the presented work include a higher-order triangular mesh, node-coordinates, connectivity matrix, and border nodes. The results obtained by the proposed mesh creator can be utilized to improve numerical results very well for various finite element analysis applications. This technology can be utilized in areas such as medical simulation, imageprocessing, material engineering, videoprocessing, computational materials science, optical flow estimation, computational electromagnetics, and so on.
