With the increased role of technology in video production, several types of complex video special effects editing have begun to appear. In this paper we consider wiping special effects editing in MPEG-2 [1] compressed video without full frame decompression and motion estimation. We estimated the DCT coefficients and use these coefficients together with the existing motion vectors to produce these special effects editing in compressed domain. Results show that both objective and subjective quality of the edited video in compressed domain closely follows the quality of the video edited in uncompressed domain at the same bit rate.

In this paper, a robust watermarking scheme for video object protection is proposed. For each segmented video object, a watermark is embedded by a new technology designed based on the concept of communications with side information. To solve the asynchronous problem caused by object placement, we propose to use eigenvectors of a video object for synchronization of rotation and flipping. A procedure for creating images with higher resolution than the sampling rate would allow is described. The enhancement algorithm augments the frequency content of the image using shape-invariant properties of edges across scale by using a non-linearity that generates phase- coherent higher harmonics. The procedure utilizes the Laplacian pyramid image representation. Results are presented depicting the power-spectra augmentation and the visual enhancement of several images. Simplicity of computations and ease of implementation allow for real-time applications such as high-definition television.

We propose a new interpretation platform dedicated to video communication . Basically, a video communication system takes an image flow from a camera and broadcasts it in a computer network. The goal of interpretation is to enable the video communication system to adapt automatically the broadcasted image flow, using image filtering, blurring and zooming. For that we need to detect and track individuals in office scenes, then to understand their behaviour. In this article, we focus on a new tracking method based on a 3D model of the scene, on explicit models of individuals and on the computation of several possible paths for each individual. The main issues of the tracking algorithm are presented. Finally we show the results of our algorithm for several sequences illustrating office activities in every-day life situations.

Multi-core and SIMD-supported processors have been popular and now can be highly utilized for image/videoprocessing. However, to exploit theoretical performance of such a platform, developers must write programs, considering detailed specifications of the platform. We have proposed a videoprocessing library RaVioli for solving this issue. RaVioli conceals two resolutions, frame rate and number of pixels, from developers for simplifying image/videoprocessing programming. However, image/videoprocessing programs could be written with more abstract syntax than that RaVioli provides, and image/videoprocessing has much more potential parallelism than that RaVioli can exploit. To solve these problems, in this paper, we propose a multi-grain parallel videoprocessing environment composed of a highly abstracted programming language and a dedicated compiler. The environment makes image/videoprocessing programming easier and achieves higher performance.

In this paper, we propose a novel motion vector processing (MVP) approach for temporal error concealment (TEC) in mobile video applications. Most existing TEC techniques estimate the lost motion vectors by minimizing a given distortion such as boundary variation or neighbor matching in pixel domain, which requires high power consumption compared to approaches that do not use pixel information. In wireless video applications, power consumption is a crucial factor and adoption of video post-processing algorithms by mobile devices depends greatly on the complexity of the algorithms. The proposed algorithm uses only the received motion vectors without pixel data in the concealment process which achieves concealed video quality comparable to that of pixel domain approach but at much lower computational complexity. The performance gain is achieved by using new motion vector processing approaches that include (i) frame-to-frame motion detection, (ii) local motion classification and (iii) motion trajectory tracking. Furthermore, the proposed MVP-TEC approach provides better video quality compared to other TEC methods that do not perform motion analysis.

Among various semantic primitives of video, objects of interest along with their actions and generated events can play an important role in some applications such as an object-based video surveillance system and an object-based video indexing/retrieval system. In this paper, we propose an object-based video abstraction algorithm by cluster analysis using mean shift algorithm. The generated clusters, called segments in this paper, can be used as a small unit in the object-based video indexing/retrieval systems. In the proposed algorithm, Hu's seven moments are used as shape descriptor for each video Object Plane (VOP), and shape distance between two VOPs is measured by using weighted Euclidean distance. Promising experimental results on the proposed scheme are presented.
