The management of a large amount of information generated from different media is chaotic when there is no technological tool that standardizes and organizes the data provided by different users. The present work shows a web system that allows to store in a database the information of the research products that each year the researchers of the institution perform, thus simplifying and improving information management, in order to support the making decision based in the follow-up of the projects and activities of investigation of the researchers. The system records and displays the changes made by researchers and allows generating the visualization of data, providing an easier and faster way to see and understand trends, outliers and patterns in the data which is essential for analyzing information and making decisions based on the data.

This paper outlines a novel approach to 3D visualization of network traffic. Existing approaches, which present node-graphs in 3D space may not be making the best use of the advantages of 3D. By combining the time component of network traffic data with nodal information and displaying these on separate planes it should be possible to provide analysts with insights that go beyond just the nodal information. The goal of allowing analysts to quickly form a mental map that corresponds with the network traffic ground truth may be achieved with this approach. The visualization approach is demonstrated through development of a tool which implements the approach and discusses its application to a recent network forensics challenge.

information provided by research on the measurement and estimation of network characteristics of the Internet is vast;therefore, it is difficult to understand and analyze it. We developed a system that includes tools to analyze and visualize both measured and estimated network characteristics of the Internet in order to obtain useful information from these characteristics. Our tools can process large amount of data on network characteristics that were preliminarily measured and estimated. The tools use geographic information for analysis and visualization;users can add codes and extend the functions of analysis and visualization. Moreover, users can easily analyze and visualize the network characteristics of the Internet for various purposes. This paper describes the visualization of network characteristics of the Internet by the tools.

We present a methodology for creating dynamic visualization of geospatial data on physical globe. To achieve this goal, we use a piecewise curved-display and multi-projector setup. The curved-display is a physical representation of the globe and provides closer approximation of the Earth and reduce distortions. In our method, we use a Discrete Grid Global System (DGGS) for discretizing the Earth to hierarchical cells in different resolutions. This DGGS employs an area preserving projection for on the fly integration of geospatial datasets. There is a one-to-one correspondence between pieces of our curved-display and DGGS cells in a specific resolution. We use 3D printing technology for fabricating of each piece of the display. For controlling the projection, we developed software that takes data from DGGS, warp it and then feeds it to the projectors. The fabrication of the cells and the generation of projection feed follow the same structure of DGGS. We demonstrate the flexibility of our construction with several example setups and apply them to visualize multiple datasets, including time-varying geospatial data.

Handling collections of text documents has become a daily task for many professionals whatever their economic sector or position in the organization. In many cases, little metadata is added to the documents, which makes it difficult to automatically derive a semantic structure within the collection. This paper describes a new tool that combines the clustering and the visualization paradigms to help a user identify similar documents in an unstructured collection. Several clustering algorithms can be used to identify clusters of documents that are subsequently displayed on a plane. In this work, we use the Classification EM algorithm. The originality of our approach is to allow the user to refine the clustering process interactively by means of a visual analysis of the results of the intermediate steps. In addition, the tool also shows some enriched views of the content of documents and allows the user to include a semantic analysis based on personal knowledge to the computer-based clustering process.

Interactive text visualization can help users explore and gain insights into complex and often large document sets. One popular visualization strategy to represent such collections is to depict each document as a glyph in 2D space. These spaces have proven effective, especially when combined with interactive exploration methods. However, current exploratory approaches are largely limited to single areas of a 2D spatialization, lacking support for important comparative exploration and analysis tasks. In this paper, we extend a flexible focus+context exploration technique to tackle this challenge. In particular, based on practical tasks from the digital humanities, we focus on exploring and investigating relationships between entities in large document collections. Our approach uses natural language processing to extract characters and places, including information about their relationships. We then use linked views to facilitate visual analysis of extracted information artifacts. Based on two usage scenarios, we demonstrate successful applications of the approach and discuss its benefits and limitations.

The reconstruction of brain fibers from diffusion MRI data is a widely studied field. There is a great variety of algorithms to generate fiber tracts. Despite the many possibilities to create fiber tractograms, it is not very common within the medical community to make use of them. We think there are two reasons why the acceptance of this technique is so low. The first reason is that most time the degree of detail provided by singular fibers is neither justified nor needed. Second, within the medical domain tractography visualization is still uncommon. To solve the first problem it is common to apply clustering algorithms which aggregate the single fibers to fiber bundles. In this paper, we display the fiber bundles within slices. The presentation within slices is common within the medical community and very intuitive to examine. Furthermore, our visualization allows the spatial assignment of fiber bundles to the brain structure provided as T1 images. Among many neuroscientists and physicians, T1 images are the main source for spatial orientation within the brain.

visualization of software applications plays an important part in the process of comprehending new software systems and is even more important due to its increasing complexity. Component-based development works with complex structure of black-box units and paradoxically there is not much choice in terms of both notation and tooling when one needs to visualize structure of these component-based applications. Reverse engineering is available for only a few component models and the state of the practice in visualization is the simple and static component diagram introduced in UML 2.0. In this paper we present a tool that is generic and it is therefore usable for any component-based application. This tool works with an advanced meta-model (ENT) as an intermediate data model to store all the reverse-engineered information about these applications. This information is then available for further visualization. A new notation based on this meta-model is also suggested in this paper which uses several interactive techniques to enhance the comprehension process.

There is a rapidly growing, cross-domain demand for interactive, high-quality visualization techniques as components of web-based applications and systems. In this context, a key question is how visualization services can be designed, implemented, and operated based on Software-as-a-Service as software delivery model. In this paper, we present concepts and design of a SaaS framework and API of visualization techniques for tree-structured data, called HiVISER. Using representational state transfer (REST). the API supports different data formats, data manipulations, visualization techniques, and output formats. In particular, the API defines base resource types for all components required to create an image or a virtual scene of a hierarchy visualization. We provide a treemap visualization service as prototypical implementation for which subtypes of the proposed API resourceshave been created. The approach generally serves as a blue-print for fully web-based, high-end visualization services running on thin clients in a standard browser environment.
