In this paper, we propose a new nonlinear adaptive inverse control via a unified model neural network. In order to overcome nonsystematic design and long training time in nonlinear adaptive inverse control, we propose the approximate transformable technique to obtain a Chebyshev Polynomials Based Unified Model (CPBUM) neural network for the feedforward/recurrent neural networks. It turns out that the proposed method can use less training time to get an inverse model. Finally, we apply this proposed method to control magnetic bearing system. The experimental results show that the proposed nonlinear adaptive inverse control architecture provides a greater flexibility and better performance in controlling magnetic bearing systems.

A new algorithm based on fuzzy neural networks called Incremental Learning Fuzzy Neuron network (ILFN) was developed for pattern classification. To demonstrate the performance of the resulting classifier, simulation was carried out using the Westland vibration data set. Comparisons between the ILFN and some existing methods showed that in terms of classification performance, the ILFN is competitive with or even better than many well-known classifiers. Results from the simulation studies show that the real-time and on-line ILFN classifier is efficient for fault classification and identification in machine condition monitoring.

Three categories of remote computing (client/server) in use and development today are the network Computer (Java), the Web Browser interface, and Remote Screen/Keyboard. The Remote Screen/Keyboard model offers the greatest flexibility, the 'thinnest clients': and the strongest immunity to the need for upgrades to users' terminals. It also allows the use of lightweight, ultra-portable, wireless terminals while still providing access to the most complex applications (including internet access, corporate information systems, and E-mail), and to all the files normally available from a user's desktop computer. The terminals control users' Virtual Personal Computers, which reside on servers in the network. The authors have constructed a test system with which users satisfy their computing needs using terminals ranging from one to six pounds, connected by a variety of wireless and wireline means. performance and usage statistics collected so far, along with coming wireless packet data systems, suggest that the Virtual Personal Computer/Portable network model is attractive to users and will soon be economically viable.

DSRC (dedicated short range communications), which is a radio mobile communication protocol in ITS (intelligent transport system), is suited for traffic related services. Considering the current trends to introduce wireless internet service into the mobile communication network, wireless internet service in the ITS system will be valuable. An adaptive logical link control algorithm to support the wireless internet Web service in DSRC based on the reliable high speed data transmission is proposed and it is shown that an enhanced performance could be obtained compared with the DSRC logical link control algorithms proposed by Europe and Japan.

We consider the stability and performance of a model for networks supporting services that adapt their transmission to the available bandwidth. Not unlike real networks, in our model connection arrivals are stochastic and have a random amount of data to send, so the number of connections in the system changes over time. In turn the bandwidth allocated to, or throughput achieved by, a given connection, may change during its lifetime due to feedback control mechanisms that react to congestion and thus implicitly to the number of ongoing connections. Ideally, for a fixed number of connections, such mechanisms reach an equilibrium typically characterized in terms of its 'fairness' in allocating bandwidth to users, e.g., max-min fair. We prove the stability of such networks when the offered load on each link does not exceed its capacity. We use simulation to investigate the performance, in terms of average connection delays, for various network topologies and fairness criteria. Finally we pose an architectural problem in TCP/IP's decoupling of the transport and network layer from the point of view of guaranteeing connection level stability, which we claim may explain congestion phenomena on the internet.

With the increasing requirement for more bandwidth and high-speed networks, the asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) has become the main consideration of many academic and industrial entities. Also, the internet growth and the convergence of the television with the computer has led cable companies to develop methods of delivering broadband services to residential customers. Cable networks are based on modified LAN (local area network) technologies and the hybrid fiber coax (HFC) network, which accounts for the backbone of most modern cable systems. This paper is a study on the end-to-end performance of TCP over ABR (available bit rate) at the HFC network using an ATM backbone network where the ABR service has a very complicated mechanism. The ABR service mechanism constantly monitors the network switch's load and feed this information back to the sources. The drawback of the HFC network is that these networks are all based on media sharing. This only presents a problem when the network is under heavy use. Moreover, because of the interference between TCP flow control and ABR flow control, the performance is reduced. In this environment, the 802.14 MAC (media access control) protocol supports the ATM ABR service. But, the MAC contention algorithm of the upstream interferes with the rate control mechanism of ABR. The simulation results show that the traffic of TCP over ABR depend on the sender's network and the returned RM (resource management) cells' delay time. In order to increase the performance of TCP, we need more studies on the MAC contention mechanism and TCP traffic controls.
