This paper presents a robust control design approach for current self-controlled power factor correction (PFC) boost converters. Lyapunov stability theory is applied to assess the closed-loop stability and performance under large load variations and vanishing input voltage disturbances. A differential-algebraic representation of the closed-loop system is considered to derive a convex optimization problem in terms of linear matrix inequality (LMI) constraints to tune the controller parameters. numerical simulations demonstrate the potentials of the proposed approach for tuning current self-controlled PFC boost converters subject to large load variations.

The idea of finding low-rank solutions to matrix or tensor optimization tasks by greedy rank-one methods has been showing itself repeatedly in the literature. The simplest method, and often a central building block in accelerated methods, consists in performing updates along low-rank approximations of the negative gradient. This is convenient as it does increase the rank in a prescribed manner per step, and also because it allows for a somewhat surprisingly simple convergence analysis. The main point is that in a tensor product space of finite dimension, the best rank-one approximation of a tensor has a guaranteed minimal overlap with the tensor itself. Thus rank-one approximations of anti-gradients provide descent directions. This key concept can also be used in Hilbert space, if the rank growth of the approximation sequence can be balanced with convergence speed. This work presents a conceptual review of this approach, and also provides some new insights.

Recently, the study of symmetric cone complementarity problems has been a hot topic in the literature. Many numerical methods have been proposed for solving such a class of problems. Among them, the problems concerned are generally monotonic. In this paper, we consider symmetric cone linear complementarity problems with a class of non-monotonic transformations. A smoothing Newton algorithm is extended to solve this class of non-monotonic symmetric cone linear complementarity problems;and the algorithm is proved to be well-defined. In particular, we show that the algorithm is globally and locally quadratically convergent under mild assumptions. The preliminary numerical results are also reported.

In this brief article, the stability and disturbance attenuation property in the sense of ℓ 2 gain for switched linear discrete-time systems are investigated. The computation of ℓ 2 gains against dwell time has been viewed as an open problem so far. A novel dwell-time dependent Lyapunov function (DTDLF) is introduced to study the stability and ℓ 2 gain analysis problems. The main advantage of DTDLF approach is that the derived conditions are all convex in system matrices, thus it is capable to be generalised to switched systems with uncertainties. Then, as an application, the ℋ ∞ control problem is considered. Based on the DTDLF approach, the control synthesis procedures including state-feedback controllers and switching law design are unified into one-step method that explicitly facilitates the control synthesis process. Finally, numerical examples are provided to illustrate the proposed results.

This study is concerned with the problem of controller design for linear systems with unknown or partially known communication delay. A new networked predictive control scheme is proposed to deal with the unknown or partially known communication delay. The closed-loop system is modelled as a switched system under constraint switching taking an important property of communication delay into account. Sufficient stability conditions are derived using switched Lyapunov function approach. On the basis of stability conditions, the method of designing the controller gain matrix and some important parameters in the control scheme is investigated. Finally, a numerical example is given to confirm the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Monte Carlo methods are a wide range of computational algorithms which depend on repeated random sampling to obtain numerical results. They are of great interest in parallel computing because the samplings are very often independent of one another, which expose abundant parallelism. Such parallelism is well suited for modern processors with large number of cores. In this study, we revisit the Monte Carlo technique for solving linear systems. The conventional implementation of this method, in spite of its abundant parallelism, still exhibits some fundamental bottlenecks which limit performance: (a) relatively large amount of time spent in random number generation, (b) serialized selection of new states, (c) lack of vectorization which leads to low SIMD efficiency for processors with wide vector units, and (d) variable results due to the stochastic nature of algorithm. We propose an efficient task-based execution model for tackling these problems. It provides a new perspective to interpret the theory so we can bypass the inevitable routines in conventional implementation of Monte Carlo method, such as random number generation. The new model also exploits the salient architectural features of modern multi-core system, such as wide vector units and hardware support for irregular memory access. Our work is built on the latest research on task-based scheduling. It shows very promising performance on both multi-core and many-core system. Compared with optimized conventional parallel implementation, we achieved significant speedups (up to 3.68x) on test matrices.

In our manuscript we suggest an approach to obtain the solutions of the fractional differential equations(FDEs). We found the operational matrix within the linear B-spline functions. In this way the investigated equations are turned into a set of algebraic equations. We provide examples to illustrate both accuracy and simplicity of the suggested approach.

Distributed H∞ and H2 consensus control in directed networks

In this study, the H ∞ consensus problem of a group of linear multi-agent systems with directed communication graph is addressed. To achieve H ∞ consensus, a new class of distributed consensus protocols based only on the relative states of the neighbouring agents is proposed. Compared with the existing protocols, the one presented in this study focuses on solving the H ∞ consensus problem in strongly connected directed networks. By using tools from algebraic graph theory and Lyapunov stability analysis, it is theoretically shown that distributed H ∞ consensus in the closed-loop multi-agent systems with strongly connected topology can be achieved if the distributed consensus protocol is appropriately designed. A two-step algorithm is then presented to construct such a protocol. The H 2 consensus problem for networked systems is further investigated. Finally, the effectiveness of the theoretical analysis is verified via numerical simulations.
