A mathematical model for dynamic analysis of elastic cam devices driven by DC motors with velocity control is presented in this paper. Besides the dynamic modelling of the cam system, the model considers the electromagnetic behaviour of the motor and the response of the speed regulator, based on a standard PID (proportional, integral and derivative) algorithm. The proposed model can be used as design tool, to simulate actual cam servomechanisms with a good degree of reliability and to evaluate the effects due to a modification of the control system parameters. Some simulation results are included in the paper, to demonstrate the possibility of use of the model.

Although services are delivered across dispersed complex service eco-systems, monitoring performance becomes a difficult task. This paper explores a number of areas to support the development of service performance analytics within the discipline of service science. The paper provides a comprehensive account for the need to introduce modelling techniques to address the significant research void and explains how actor network theory (ANT) can be introduced as one of the core theories to examine service operations and performance. ANT sets out to develop an understanding on both how and why networks exist and to understand processes co-creation between human and non-human actors. By examining performance, this paper draws our attention towards the need to formulate methods to examine service network key performance indicators and the need to model service interaction, structure, and behaviour which impact on performance and consequently on service evolution.

Due to high compatibility and solubility in human organism, special magnesium alloys are applied in bioengineering. Production of surgical threads to integration of tissue can be application of these types of alloys. This sort of application calls for fine wires with diameters from 0.1 to 0.9 mm. The warm drawing process in heated dies is proposed to increase the workability of the Mg alloys. The purpose of this paper is development and experimental validation of a mathematical model of a warm drawing process of wires made of MgCa0.8 and Ax30 alloys and determination of optimal parameters with the objective function defined as maximum of workability. The first part of investigation is focused on development of a numerical model, which is based on FE solution. The second part of paper is focused on experimental upsetting and tensile tests. Basing on these tests the flow stress and ductility models were obtained. The materials models are implemented into the Authors FE code, which is dedicated to modelling of drawing processes. Experimental validation of model is based on thermo visual measurement of wire temperature during drawing.

This paper presents a novel approach to modelling and simulation of the dynamic behaviour of rail-wheel interface. The proposed dynamic wheel-rail contact model comprises wheel-rail geometry and efficient solutions for normal and tangential contact problems. This two-degree of freedom model takes into account the lateral displacement of the wheelset and the yaw angle. Single wheel tread rail contact was considered for all simulations and Kalker's linear theory and heuristic non-linear creep models were employed. The second order differential equations are reduced to first order and the forward velocity of the wheelset is increased until the wheelset becomes unstable. A comprehensive study of the wheelset lateral stability is performed and is relatively easy to use since no mathematical approach is required to estimate the critical velocity of the dynamic wheel-rail contact model. This novel approach to modelling and simulation of the dynamic behaviour of rail-wheel interface will be useful in the development of intelligent infrastructure diagnostic and condition monitoring systems. The automated detection of the state of the track will allow informed decision making on asset management actions - especially in maintenance and renewals activities.

We use an agent-based approach to model trading behaviour in high-frequency markets. This study focuses on the Foreign Exchange (FX) market. The initial part of this study is to observe the micro-behaviour of traders to define the stylized facts of their trading activities. This is performed using a high-frequency dataset of anonymised individual traders' historical transactions on an account level, provided by OANDA Ltd. This dataset is considered to be the biggest available high-frequency dataset dealing with the individual FX market traders' trading activities. The second step is to build agent-based models of traders. The traders are modelled to respond to physical time to account for the different market seasonalities. The key elements in modeling the traders are zero-intelligence directional-change events trading strategy, historical prices, actual FX market traders' behaviour, limit orders, FX market trading sessions and market holidays. Using the identified stylized facts of FX market trading activity, we evaluate the trading agents' collective trading behaviour. The results of this comparison indicate that the trading agents' collective trading behaviour resembles, to a certain extent, the collective trading behaviour of FX market traders.

This article presents a new multiphysics modelling approach for cell manipulation by dielectrophoresis. This approach is proposed to model and predict the behavior of particles injected into a microchannel due to the application of an electrical field. The objective of this model is to better characterize microelectronic circuits dedicated to design and implement hybrid systems such as lab-on-chips integrating microelectronics and microfluidic structures. The proposed model allows to determine the required configuration of microelectronic circuits and needed control signals to generate. This model applies primarily to applications using dielectrophoresis cell separation in a micro- channel. Then, by using the proposed model, the cell behaviour can be predicted using an advanced multiphysics simulation method.
