Within the present industrial metabolism, electric and thermal energy production is one of the main consumers of fossil fuels. Coal is a natural resource and fossil fuel used in the coal-fired power plants in Romania. Unfortunately, beyond the environmental depletion, the problems caused by the environmental releases in operation of these power plants are also related to human health impact. This paper highlights some of these problems, analyzing the pollutant vector of combustion emissions and the specific physical parameters associated to a coal-fired power plant in Romania. The environmental pollutants belonging to combustion gases vector, as sulfur dioxide SO2, nitrogen oxides NOx, particulate matter PM, and carbon dioxide CO2 have been analyzed for the Energetic Power Plant of Turceni - Romania. mathematical models of environmental pollutant vector, estimating the emission factors specific to fossil fuel combustion process have been applied for the thermo-electrical blocks on 330 MW of Turceni power plant For each combustion gases component of pollutant vector, the results with regard to emission factor and pollutant concentration are presented in this study. Also, the Projection in the Mirror of the combustion gases pollutant vector had allowed an evaluation of mass concentration of the ash in the combustion gases quill. In this case study for the thermoelectric blocks of 330 MW of Turceni power plant, the projection in mirror is developed for distances of 300 meters, and for modelling the ascendant smoke quill according to this projection in mirror, it has been adopted the FDP pattern - probability density function, elaborated by Weil. Accordingly, the nomograms of ash-particulate matter pollutant have been simulated.

Any industrial engineer designing business processes can testify to the results of projects that went wrong because the initial process requirements were not correctly understood, formulated, or communicated throughout the design process. This paper identifies and defines fundamental systems thinking principles that should be present in a business process design methodology. The research is based on the understanding that complex business processes are formed from organized business patterns, and that the appropriate systems thinking principles enable the industrial engineer to capture these patterns and design business processes to reflect real world behaviour. Doing so enables the formulation of a well structured business process design specification.

modelling and control of gas turbines (GTs) have always been a controversial issue because of the complex dynamics of these kinds of equipment. Considerable research activities have been carried out so far in this field in order to disclose the secrets behind the nonlinear behaviour of these systems. Although the results of the research in this area have been satisfactory so far, it seems that there is no end to the efforts for performance optimization of gas turbines. A variety of analytical and experimental models as well as control systems has been built so far for gas turbines. However, the need for optimized models for different objectives and applications has been a strong motivation for researchers to continue to work in this field. This paper is aimed at presenting a general overview of essential basic criteria that need to be considered for making a satisfactory model and control system of a gas turbine. GT type, GT configuration, modelling methods, modelling objectives as well as control system type and configuration are the main preliminary factors for modelling a gas turbine which will be briefly discussed in the paper. Some of the research in this field will be also stated shortly.

This paper presents a modeling and simulation of transient heat transfer process in the human eye with a tumour. A three dimensional (3D) finite element method is applied to obtain the solution of a boundary value problem for a transient heat transfer model in the human eye. The human eye is modeled as a composition of several homogeneous regions. The Ritz method in the finite element method is used for solving heat differential equation. Applying the boundary conditions, the heat radiation condition and the Robin condition on the cornea surface of the eye and on the outer part of sclera are used, respectively. Simulation results of heat transfer for three dimensional model of human eye with a tumour show the effect of tumour on transient heat distribution.

This paper covers the modelling of the standard IEEE 14 bus system using the MATLAB package. The basic system is tested under large and small disturbances to study the dynamic behaviour of the system and the stability margins associated with the different configurations of the system. As a suggested solution to increase stability margins of the system, Sen transformer is added, modelled and tested to show the effect of the controller on the different stability margins under both large and small disturbances.

Neptune provides a framework for developing autonomic software systems, using the web service model to provision for and assemble applications. Challenges present in all but the most trivial of service assemblies concern: determination of required service types, location of suitable service instances, and guaranteeing behaviour adheres to any specified policy. The Neptune model is concerned with specification of individual services and resources, along with their requirements and abilities. The Neptune engine, using this information is responsible for automated assembly of these services, given an abstract software specification. This paper reports on the development of a small-scale reference implementation comprising the main Neptune data model (built around the EMF data model) and a small-scale object / service linker.

Friction Stir Welding (FSW) is a relatively new solid state joining technique, which is versatile, environment friendly, and energy and time efficient. For a comprehensive understanding of the effects of process conditions, such as tool rotation speed and traverse speed, on characterisations of welded materials, it is essential to establish prediction models for different aspects of the materials' behaviours. Because of the high complexity of the FSW process, it is often difficult to derive accurate and yet transparent enough mathematical models. In such a situation, a systematic data-driven fuzzy modelling approach is developed and implemented in this paper to model FSW behaviour relating to AA5083 aluminium alloy, consisting of microstructural features, mechanical properties, as well as overall weld quality. This methodology allows constructing transparent fuzzy models considering both accuracy and interpretability attributes of fuzzy systems. The elicited models proved to be accurate, interpretable and robust and can be further applied to facilitate the optimal design of process parameters, with the aim of finding the optimal combinations of process parameters to achieve desired welding properties.

Variations in treatment decisions made by individual physicians can lead to practice variations in which different doctors may treat patients with the same type of medical conditions differently. There is a need to develop novel decision support systems that can interpret the decision-making behaviour of clinicians and identify the factors influencing particular treatment decisions. Such a tool will ensure that patients with the same medical conditions consistently receive the same kind of treatment and care. This paper proposes a novel neuro-fuzzy decision modelling approach, using neural networks for automatically determining the key clinical characteristics influencing a physician's treatment decisions, and using fuzzy classifiers to model the relationships between clinical characteristics and treatment decisions using linguistically interpretable fuzzy rules. The approach aims to help identify the factors and reasons for variations in treatment decisions made by different physicians in order to improve patient care. In order to demonstrate the usefulness of the proposed work, we conducted several quick and dirty ethnographic studies, which prove that variations in physicians' treatment exist.

This paper discussed the effect of vowel (fatha, kasra and damma) in Arabic consonants. These vowels are added to the basic consonants with three simple diacritics using the utterances of every dental consonant concerned by Malaysian children. The dental consonants refer to the consonants utter using dental medium. It is called the place of articulation at labiodentals, dental and interdental. The formant frequencies produced for each place of articulation are study based on their spectrogram. The visualization of the spectrogram makes the formants easily being identified by normal human being's vision. The formants (F1, F2 and F3) are averaged and the results show the different increment and decrement compare to utterances of single phoneme. F1 is decreased for all observed consonants. Meanwhile F2 and F3 changes according to its manner of articulation, where in this study the tabulation are plosive and fricative.
