This paper describe the development of a flexible plate structure rig for the implementation of active vibration control algorithm. The experimental rig is designed as an apparatus to create vibration along the flexible plate structure. Displacement, acceleration and excitation behaviour at the flexible plate structure were recorded by mean of piezoelectric accelerometer, force sensor and displacement laser sensor. The data from the experiment can be used for further analysis of the development and implementation of active vibration control algorithm especially in the applications of vibrational mechanical structure, submarines, aerospace etc. Results from the experiments are raw data which can later be used in designing an appropriate instrument or device that can suppress the vibration.

Data mining technique, classification and prediction has improved and used in medical domain to helping medical practitioner in making their decisions. As medical data is highly sensitive to personal information of human being, so it is desired to keep private. There are many approaches for classification which have been adapted for privacy preserving in medical data which are based on data separation technique for privacy preserving. There are two scenarios, one is centralized and other is distributed data where several approaches have been developed. In this paper, we propose architecture for privacy preserving in data mining by combining horizontal data distribution and vertical data distribution for breast cancer data set.

This paper presents analysis of a proposed mechanical design solution for improving the downcoiler operations on a hot strip steel rolling mill. The design solution incorporates a novel pneumatic/hydraulic hybrid cylinder, used to hold the downcoiler wrappers in position to guide the steel strip whilst coiling. A full size testing rig was constructed to fully test the new prototype cylinder. The data collected from these testing trials was used to improve and validate a computer simulation model of the new equipment, which was coded in MatLab Simulink. The paper provides a comparison analysis of experimental testing results and computer simulation modelling results for the behaviour of the prototype cylinder.

Some modelling methods and associated tools are presented in this paper to efficiently and accurately simulate the electromagnetic behaviour of power electronic structures. Moreover, as engineers have to face new challenges, the synergy between simulation tools is illustrated as a possible solution for addressing this "multiphysic" topic. The article is also pictured of several application examples where obtained results are discussed and compared to measurements.

Pepper berries classification has been performed manually by human vision. Hence the procedure consumes a lot of manpower and time. This research discusses an application of computer vision to classify the peppercorn samples. We propose the use of edge detection and template matching from the real time gray scale images taken from the peppercorn samples. Color images and color detection is applied in this research as they consume large volume of CPU memory and reduce the classification speed in real time (Reece et al. 1998, Zou et al. 2007). The paper discusses the background of peppercorn feature classifications, followed by the peppercorn recognition algorithm, evaluation and results of the recognition.

In electromagnetic dosimetry, anatomical human models are commonly obtained by segmentation of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or computed tomography (CT) scans. In this paper, a human head model extracted from thermal IR images is examined in terms of its applicability to specific absorption rate (SAR) calculations. Since thermal scans are two-dimensional (2-D) representation of surface temperature, this allows researchers to overcome the extensive computational demand associated with three-dimensional (3-D) simulation. The numerical calculations are performed using the finite difference time domain (FDTD) method with mesh sizes of 2 mm at 900 MHz plane wave irradiation. The power density of the incident plane wave is assumed to be 10 W/m2. Computations were compared with a realistic anatomical head model. The results show that although there were marked differences in the local SAR distribution in the various tissues in the two models, the 1g peak SAR values are approximately similar in the two models.

This paper describes the design and development cycle of a 3D biochip separator and the modelling analysis of flow behaviour in the biochip microchannel features. The focus is on identifying the difference between 2D and 3D implementations as well as developing basic forms of 3D microfluidic separators. Five variants, based around the device are proposed and analysed. These include three variations of the branch channels (circular, rectangular, disc) and two variations of the main channel (solid and concentric). Ignoring the initial transient behaviour and assuming steady state flow has been established, the efficiencies of the flow between the main and side channels for the different designs are analysed and compared with regard to relevant bio-microfluidic laws or effects (bifurcation law, Fahraeus effect, cell-free phenomenon, bending channel effect and laminar flow behaviour). The modelling results identify flow features in microchannels, a constriction and bifurcations and show detailed differences in flow fields between the various designs. The manufacturing process using injection moulding for the initial base case design is also presented and discussed. The work reported here is supported as part of the UK funded 3D-MINTEGRATION project.

Wheeled Mobile Robot (WMR) is extremely important for active target tracking control and the reactive obstacle avoidance in an unstructured environment. Fuzzy control provides a mechanism for incorporating human-like reasoning capabilities and computationally in control systems. In this paper, a new type of controller based on Fuzzy Logic for differential drive WMR is proposed. The paper begins with design of the WMR which involves the kinematics model and fuzzy controller. Then, simulation and research findings are provided in detail. It was found that the Fuzzy Logic Controller with five membership functions provides better performance compared to that of a seven membership function controller.

This paper presents the study of sound frequency characteristic based on Electroencephalography (EEG) signals. The study includes feature extraction of the EEG signals with respect to different sound frequencies, covering low frequency (40 Hz), mid-range frequency (5000 Hz), and high frequency (15000 Hz). human brain activities are expected to be different when exposed to different sound frequencies, and can be shown through EEG signals. In this paper, EEG signal characterization is done using Fast Fourier Transform (FFT), moving average filters, and simple artefact filtering with reference EEG data per individual. Based on the characteristics of the EEG signal, the sound frequency can be categorized and identified using the proposed method.

This paper presents the model of a solar photo voltaic (SPV) module to represent its behaviour in both forward and reverse bias conditions. This complete model arrives from the breakdown mechanisms in SPV cells and calculates the second quadrant parameters. It can be modified to any SPV cell in which reverse characteristic is subjected to avalanche mechanism and those influenced by shunt resistance. The model parameters are determined based on piecewise fitting by conducting suitable experiments. The simple and economic electronic load setup has been presented to verify the model. The model is compared with some experimental characteristics to show the accuracy of the model.
