This model is an attempt to optimize the design and control of anthropomorphic hands, and highlight some aspects that should be considered in that context. Matlab environment was used to model an index digit and move its PIP and DIP joints based on the behavior observed in natural human digits. The static model considered the correlation between PIP and DIP joints, as well as their range of motion, and it included phalanges, joints, and two flexion tendons, each to flex one joint. An animation was introduced to represent that motion using Matlab plots. After that, a third partially-elastic tendon was attached for extension, of which the dynamics were modelled using Simulink, in order to study the time required for the digit to completely extend from its maximum flexion for different elasticity constants. Finally, a search algorithm was used to optimize the elasticity constant required for an extension time of 0.5 second from full flexion.
This study details the development of a mathematical thermal model of a small wind turbine gearbox for use in condition monitoring. The model was optimised and partially validated using experimental data from a wind t...

The study of secondary settler modelling, which aims to establish the main model (one-dimensional-1D model), which is involved in some fundamental processes of the hydrodynamic behaviour of this liquid/solid separation unit and to engender variations of the sludge blanket height as a function of the operating parameters and maintaining of the municipal wastewater treatment plant of Setif. The objective of this research is focused on solid/liquid separation in the secondary settler by attempting a mathematical model that allows us to evaluate the sedimentation velocity as a function of the sludge settleability parameters.

In the 21 st century, numerical analysis is a proven tool for research and development of manufacturing processes. mathematicalmodelling provides information about the behaviour of various materials during forming processes, for instance. The real-world process is therefore represented by an abstract mathematical model, on which calculations are performed. Three-roll skew rolling can be used for various grades of steel. This paper presents the results of a theoretical analysis of skew rolling of bars with an initial diameter of 30 mm for three different carbon steels, S235JRC, C45 and C60, and austenitic stainless steel AISI 321. The final diameter of the rolled bars was 22 mm and was achieved in a single pass. Several different rolling speeds were used for the stainless steel. The simulations were carried out using DEFORM 2D/3D software. The behaviour of the materials during rolling was analysed, including the values of effective strain and stress.

An electromagnetic field EMF generated by high voltage overhead transmission line in an urban environment is presented. The electromagnetic interference generated by overhead high-voltage HV line is considered. The levels of the electric field and magnetic field around HV urban lines are investigated. They are calculated analytically and simulated numerically for various realistic cases like normal mode and short circuit mode. The magnetic field of a high-voltage power line under lightning strike is also simulated. An impact of electromagnetic field in electrical devices in adjacent building and people, which is located nearby urban HV line, is being studied. Model validation of numerical simulation with measuring results of electric field of an existing transmission line 110 kV is done. Results of the electric and magnetic field analysis of the overhead urban line were assessed to check the compliance exposure limits with the existing requirements. The presented method for the electromagnetic field modeling could be used for the evaluation of the impact on the human body by simulations of different, unusual situations like lightning strike.

The cell to cell communication between bacteria is termed as quorum sensing, which maybe inter or intra species. This phenomenon is mediated by auto inducer molecules including N-Acyl Homoserine Lactones (AHL). The concentration of AHL generally reaches a maximum and decreases as a function of time. However, under certain conditions which promote slower growth of the bacteria, two maxima are seen in its concentration. This paper describes the mathematicalmodelling of AHL production by a member of the Exiguobacterium genus. A set of ordinary differential equations describe the dynamic behaviour of biomass, dissolved oxygen, substrate, and AHL concentration. The model fits the experimental data well with fewer parameters than those reported in literature. It is capable of describing both single and dual maxima seen in AHL production. This study suggests a possible mechanism of QS system in Exiguobacterium species. The developed model can help in identifying a potential harvesting time at which AHL concentration is maximum under reactor conditions. (C) 2018 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Trend analysis of extreme ground-level ozone (GLO) concentration is one of the common thoughts to ensure the continuous improvement in ozone performing. This paper aims to identify the GLO concentration trends at 25 air monitoring stations in Peninsular Malaysia for understanding the pattern occur in all GLO data. The trend analysis has been examined by method of non-stationarity test and trend test. The objective of this analysis is to classify the nonstationarity and trend behaviour occur in the GLO data concentration and to examine the performance. Results from the ADF (Augmented Dickey-Fuller) test reveals that stationarity exist in all stations whereas the Kwiatkowski–Phillips–Schmidt–Shin (KPSS) test shows only 8 stations have a stationarity. Next, for the trend test using Mann-Kendall. In a test of maximum ground-level ozone concentration increasing after displaying positive Kendall Z-values for 12 stations, 9 stations were found to be dropping after having a negative Kendall Z-value, and the remaining station showed no trend. This trend analysis can be used for monitoring of the performance of level in ground-level ozone concentration and can be used as an idea to statistician to continue the analysis in order to further investigation about ground-level ozone performance.

For more than a decade Deep Learning, a subset of machine learning have been using for many applications such as forecasting, data visualization, classification etc. However, it consumes more energy and also takes longer training periods for computation, when compared to human brain. In most cases, it is difficult to reach human level performance. With the recent technological improvements in neuroscience and thanks to neuromorphic computing, we now can achieve higher classification efficacy for producing the desired outputs with considerably lower power consumption. Latest advancements in brain simulation technologies has given a breakthrough for analysing and modelling brain functions. Despite its advancements, this research remains undiscovered due to lack of coordination between neuroscientists, electronics engineers and computer scientists. Recent progress in Spiking Neural Networks(SNN) led towards integration different fields under one single roof. Biological neurons inside human brain communicate with each other through synapses. Similarly, bio-inspired synapses in the neuromorphic model mimic the biological neuro synapses for computing. In this novel research, we have modelled a supervised Spiking Neural Network algorithm using Leaky Integrate and Fire (LIF), Izhikevich and rectified linear neurons and tested its spike latency under different conditions. Furthermore, these SNN models are tested on the MNIST dataset to classify the handwritten digits, and the results are compared with the results of the Convolutional Neural Network (CNN).
