Requirements engineering is a key step in any project aiming at evolving an information system. The temporal dimension of requirements is already supported by specific formalisms which enable the verification of the temporal behaviour of the system under construction. In contrast, space requirements have for long been reserved to Geographic Information Systems. Nowadays, systems are becoming ubiquitous due to generalisation of mobile technologies and the emergence of the Internet of Things and Cyber-Physical Systems. This increasing level of connection of the software with the real-world requires more systematic methods for capturing and reasoning about the system not only from the temporal but also from the spatial point of views. Here, we present our ongoing effort for systematically identifying, structuring and reasoning about spatial and temporal requirements. Our work lies at the cross-roads of goal-oriented requirements engineering and geomatics. We discuss our current progress on the design of a coherent set of notations borrowed from both fields to enrich domain and goal models with spatial and temporal properties. We also sketch how specific methodologicalsupport can be provided on top of them to achieve high quality requirements.

The ageing population (people older than 60 years old) is expected to constitute 21.8% of global population by year 2050. When human ages, bodily function including locomotors will deteriorate. Besides, there are hundreds of thousands of victims who suffer from multiple health conditions worldwide that leads to gait impairment. A promising solution will be the lower limb powered-exoskeleton. This study is to be a start-up platform to design a lower limb powered-exoskeleton for a normal Malaysian male, by designing and simulating the dynamic model of a 2-link robotic leg to observe its behaviour under different input conditions with and without a PID controller. Simulink in MATLAB software is used as the dynamic modelling and simulation software for this study. It is observed that the 2-links robotic leg behaved differently under different input conditions, and perform the best when it is constrained and controlled by PID controller. Simulink model is formed as a foundation for the upcoming researches and can be modified and utilised by the future researchers.

Stock market prediction has been the bane and goal for investors, and one of the biggest challenges for artificial intelligence (AI) community. National economies have a great impact by the behaviour of their stock markets. Markets have become a more accessible investment tool. Attribute that all stock markets have in common is uncertainty. This uncertainty associated with stock value in short and long term future investments are undesirable. Stock market prediction is instrumental in process of investment. Drawbacks of existing system faces technical difficulties such as estimating share of dividends, state vector while implementing stochastic modelling for risk analysis. To overcome drawbacks of existing system, proposed system makes an effort of generating a combination of more than one lakh seventy thousand scenarios to find intrinsic value of company, displaying results in graphical visualization. A large scenario generation of distinct intrinsic stock value done by the system will provide intrinsic stock value for each scenario. A large set of values for all the input parameters for example high growth value, declining growth value, terminal growth value, return on equity needs to be created, so that possible intrinsic value can be generated by system. The system will calculate statistical indicators like mean, median, mode, skewness and kurtosis of large data set consisting intrinsic value of company. Comparing statistically calculated intrinsic value and current market price, system will be able to add a robust statistical reasoning for investment decision. This reasoning will have no human or emotional biases as there will be no human intervention involved for arriving to the final intrinsic value of stock. Monte Carlo simulation is best suited solution for generating random scenarios that fall in line with Brownian walk motion of stock prices.

Operating complex plants is an increasingly demanding task for human operators. Diagnosis of and reaction to on-line events requires the interpretation of real time data. Vast amounts of sensor data as well as operational knowledge about the state and design of the plant are necessary to deduct reasonable reactions to abnormal situations. Intelligent computational support tools can make the operator's task easier, but they require knowledge about the overall system in form of some model. While tools used for fault-tolerant control design based on physical principles and relations are valuable tools for designing robust systems, the models become too complex when considering the interactions on a plant-wide level. The alarm systems meant to support human operators in the diagnosis of the plant-wide situation on the other hand fail regularly in situations where these interactions of systems lead to many related alarms overloading the operator with alarm floods. Functional modelling can provide a middle way to reduce the complexity of plant-wide models by abstracting from physical details to more general functions and behaviours. Based on functional models the propagation of failures through the interconnected systems can be inferred and alarm floods can potentially be reduced to their root-cause. However, the desired behaviour of a complex system changes due to operating procedures that require more than one physical and functional configuration. In this paper a consistent representation of possible configurations is deduced from the analysis of an exemplary start-up procedure by functional models. The proposed interpretation of the modelling concepts simplifies the functional modelling of distinct modes. The analysis further reveals relevant links between the quantitative sensor data and the qualitative perspective of the diagnostics tool based on functional models. This will form the basis for the ongoing development of a novel real-time diagnostics system based on

The concept of Solid-State Transformer (SST) is a subject of vivid attention and extensive research in the recent decade, motivated by their potential impact extending well beyond 50 Hz transformers for power distributions. With the introduction of wide band-gap semiconductor devices such as GaN and SiC, it is starting to look more likely to see SST in field applications in the near future. This paper proposes the design of a compact 10 kVA, Solid State Transformer(SST) based substation. The design employs a dual active bridge (DAB) converter to achieve the bi-directional power flow and zero voltage switching (ZVS) in the switching devices, operated at 50 kHz switching frequency. Comprehensive modelling of the high frequency transformer is presented by considering the multiple core PCB configuration. A 2-D electromagnetic analysis is used to estimate the parameters of high frequency transformer which is implemented in a finite-element analysis software. J-A model of a hysteresis loop is also introduced to predict the magnetic hysteresis behaviour of the high frequency transformer accurately. To support the presented concept, simulation results from Matlab-Simulink tool are shown and discussed.

Social and economic influences on human behavioural response in an emerging epidemic

The human behavioural changes have been recognized as an important key in shaping the disease spreading and determining the success of control measures in the course of epidemic outbreaks. However, apart from cost-benefit considerations, in reality, people are heterogeneous in their preferences towards adopting certain protective actions to reduce their risk of infection, and social norms have a function in individuals' decision making. Here, we studied the interplay between the epidemic dynamics, imitation dynamics and the heterogeneity of individual protective behavioural response under the considerations of both economic and social factors, with a simple mathematical compartmental model and multi-population game dynamical replicator equations. We assume that susceptibles in different subpopulations have different preferences in adopting either normal or altered behaviour. By incorporating both intra- and inter-group social pressure, the outcome of the strategy distribution depends on the initial proportion of susceptible with normal and altered strategies in both subpopulations. The increase of additional cost to susceptible with altered behaviour will discourage people to take up protective actions and hence results in higher epidemic final size. For a specific cost of altered behaviour, the social group pressure could be a 'double edge sword', though. We conclude that the interplays between individual protective behaviour adoption, imitation and epidemic dynamics are necessarily complex if both economic and social factors act on populations with existing preferences.

The increased penetration of intermittent renewable energy sources (RESs) requires flexible resources such as demand response (DR) and energy storage to achieve balance between demand and supply in future grids (FGs). Hence, it is necessary to consider the impact of emerging demand-side technologies for modelling net demand in FG Scenarios. This paper studies the aggregated effect of PRICE-TAKING USERS equipped with such technologies on the performance of FGs. For such a study, a GENERIC demand model is developed, which captures the essential behaviour of those users at higher voltage levels. The demand model, inspired by the smart home concept, is formulated as an optimisation problem aiming to minimise the electricity cost. To showcase the performance of the model, we study the effect of price-taking users equipped with rooftop photovoltaic (PV)-battery systems on the load profile, balancing and loadability of the Australian National Electricity Market with an increased penetration of RESs.

Building successful applications using mimicked robotic fish required a comprehensive study to the various parameters affecting fish's performance during swimming in water, such as thrusting force, swimming speed, manoeuvrability, etc. during various swimming behaviour including straight swimming, c-turn escape and s-shape maneuver. The high complexity of the underwater environments pushed the researchers to find new techniques for underwater robots modelling. Among these techniques, video model prediction technique plays an important role in describing the rules covering the relationships between the fish and its environment. This paper introduces an experimental method to model and then simulate, using Matlab, the main swimming modes of a carangiform Carp fish swimming based on the continuous video monitoring. The suggested models may be used in the future to build and control a real counterpart robotic fish and to produce the important autonomous navigation commands that govern the robotic fish locomotion. The realistic results of fish swimming simulation prove the validity of suggested models.

This work describes the characterization of a three coil system presenting strongly coupled magnetic resonance (SCMR) at low frequency. A theoretical model for the power transmission efficiency between coils is studied, in order to predict the system behaviour, for different positions of the auxiliary coil placed in the middle of the transmission. The best approach for determining each parameter that impacts the performance (inductance, coupling coefficients and quality factor) is found for this low-frequency system. The power transfer efficiency of a typical two coil system is increased 270 times by adding an optimized auxiliary coil in the middle. Theoretical models and experimental measures are in good agreement.

The development of technical systems is faced with an increasing complexity. A reason for this is the growing number of domains working together for a final product. Thereby the system integration is getting more important for companies while the development of single components is often outsourced to other companies. This leads to the need of detailed interfaces descriptions between these components to support the product development process and the data and information flows. In this paper the initial steps to automatically generated behavioural simulation models are presented. The fundament for the generation of these models is model-based system engineering (MBSE). The available diagrams of MBSE are used to generate the main structure of a behaviour model. In addition partial models have been developed describing the behaviour of machine elements. Combining the MBSE models with the partial behaviour models allows the generation of a behaviour model of a complete system. A first validation of the concept of automatically generated models is presented. Based on simple MBSE and CAD models of a gear unit, different behaviour models are generated for the use with Matlab/Simulink.
