Last years have brought the use of information technology in all domains. For Civil Engineering, the smart City concept, involving the new technologies, is pointing to (among other aspects) the community safety. In this line, a structural active control strategy based on full states LQR optimal control has been relatively recent improved, numerically tested and verified. In order to apply this newer strategy, practical aspects are in the views of the present work as reduced order controller in two versions and their consequences on the effectiveness of the control strategy. The numerical simulations are performed on a multi-story building loaded by strong earthquakes' recorded accelerations. Using in-house software under Matlab, the seismic response of the structures is simulated and evaluated after introduction of Active Tuned Mass dampers. Time and frequency domain responses are obtained. The viability of the improved strategy involving application of practical considerations is determined and discussed.

As Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) become increasingly accessible, they pave the way for monitoring and inspecting civil infrastructure in complex and dynamic settings. This study proposes an autonomous crack width estimation method for large concrete structures using segmentation by convolutional neural network and post-image processing. The primary goals include achieving a precise crack width estimation. The suggested solution is incorporated and tested using our collected image databases, and the findings demonstrate that the proposed algorithm enables accurate width estimation. However, it should be noted that certain unexpected inefficiencies and inaccuracies have been identified in a few specific scenarios. © 2024 IEEE.

The modern rapid development of means and technologies for education is aimed at reducing classroom classes and remote control of knowledge and skills of education seekers. The adaptation of the education system to the remote regime has become especially relevant throughout the world during the period of quarantine restrictions caused by COVID-19. In Ukraine, the urgency of developing and implementing info-communication systems in the education process has been intensified by the martial law since February 24, 2022. The urgent need to rebuild a large number of buildings and structures destroyed and damaged by hostilities makes special demands on graduates of construction educational institutions. However, the fundamental studying of specialists in this field in remote mode requires specialized info-communication systems, creating of which need taking part of specialists in the field. On-line testing is the main means of guaranteeing the quality of the modern educational process. Therefore, the article presents the specialized on-line testing system "Fast Knowledge Test", which was developed at the Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture with the participation of stakeholders. The system operates during 2021-2023 and while the monitoring of students’ knowledge and skills remains with the teacher, but the service provides for its automation. © 2024 IEEE.

The increasing industrialization and overpopulation in recent decades have necessitated the development of new, more environmentally friendly modes of transportation. Problems with sensors might arise in terms of dependability, security, scalability, and privacy of collected data. Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) that function with the Internet of Things (IoT) have emerged as a feasible alternative for handling this problem. With the assist of the Internet of Things (IoT), Wi-Fi sensor networks can accumulate records in real-time from sensors set up in homes, automobiles, and different urban infrastructure. This statistics may be easily accumulated, analyzed, and communicated to centralized control centers through IoT, enabling visitor's management government to make well-knowledgeable picks in actual-time. Hence, this look at proposes IoT-enabled Wireless Sensor Networks for smart Transportation Systems (IoT-WSN-STS) for monitoring visitors instances, using styles, environmental variables, and extra. The paper appears into this holistic method to sell environmentally pleasant transportation networks by encouraging inexperienced riding behavior and reducing fuel fees. Large-scale deployment and control of WSNs and IoT structures in smart transportation networks provide specific troubles discussed on this have a look at. As a result, there is considerable capacity for reinforcing city mobility's efficacy, protection, and sustainability via incorporating WSNs with IoT in smart transportation systems and site visitor's enforcement. © 2023 IEEE.

Molecules are generally symbolized as undirected graphs indicate atoms as nodes and the edges depict covalent bonds between them. The notion of 1-factors is analogous to Kekule structures in chemical graphs. In this article, a new technique based on the covering numbers in graph theory to substantiate the existence of Kekule structures in chemical graphs is proposed. Initially, we study Kekulean graphs which are ladder like, such as crossed prisms, pencil, cubical and cycle of ladder graphs. Using these results, we show that characterizing chemical structures with same vertex and edge covering numbers is beneficial to identify more stable compounds. It is also shown that topped ladders are Kekulean if any one of its node is removed. Furthermore, a necessary and sufficient condition is obtained for graphs in which removal of a node results in a Kekulean graph. © 2022 IEEE.

Standardized and comprehensive data is essential for conducting statistical analyses in clinical research and ensuring the credibility of clinical trial results. Traditional methods of data quality control primarily rely on monitoring database table fields. However, the complexity and diversity of clinical data structures pose challenges in maintaining all constructed database tables and limit flexibility. This research addresses these issues and proposes a clinical data quality control system that fulfills the requirements of clinical data management. The system utilizes flexible software methods to abstractly partition clinical data, enabling support for multiple standards of clinical data. It employs a generalized structured query language to express rules, facilitating data integrity, consistency, accuracy, timeliness, relevance, and user-defined rule models. Additionally, the system incorporates statistical algorithms to accomplish quality control tasks such as identifying data outliers, conducting correlation and comparative analyses, as well as supporting data similarity control using Transformers text vectorization to calculate cosine similarity and numerical data fusion. Furthermore, the designed system leverages Spark distributed computing by partitioning and allocating data to different nodes for computation. This approach significantly enhances system stability and scalability. Overall, the proposed clinical data quality control system offers a comprehensive solution to address the complexities of clinical data, ensuring standardized and reliable data for statistical analysis in clinical research. © 2023 IEEE.

In this paper, a complete model of a grid-connected Wind/PV/Battery microgrid is presented. The proposed system is composed of a 5.45 kW photovoltaic generator (PVG);a 6-kW permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) based wind turbine (WT) and 14.4 kWh lead acid-based battery storage. The hybrid system is connected to the grid through a 20 kVA three-phase voltage source inverter, an LCL filter, and a local load. The LCL filter is designed to attenuate ripple current to 20% and total harmonic distortion (THD) below 5%. An optimized damping resistance is added to the capacitor filter to attenuate the resonance phenomenon. The extracted power from renewable sources (Wind & PV) is optimized using maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithms. Perturb and observe (PO) algorithm is used for the PVG while the optimal tip speed ratio combined with vector control is used for the WT subsystem. A rule-based energy management system (EMS) is designed to economically dispatch the energy between individual systems of the proposed microgrid to handle any energy mismatch inside the microgrid. The hierarchical control strategy and the EMS of the whole system were evaluated through several simulation cases using MATLAB-Simulink software. Simulation results prove the effectiveness of the proposed control and management structures for further practical implementation of the proposed microgrid. © 2022 IEEE.

The accurate prediction of power load is of great significance for the safe operation of the smart grid and the power transactions of market participants since the power load data series exhibits nonlinearity and volatility. In this paper, a new hybrid approach for deterministic short-term power load forecasting is proposed based on wavelet transform and deep deterministic policy gradient. In this approach, the original load data sequence is first decomposed by wavelet transform into some sub-frequency load sequences, and each sub-frequency can have better outlines and behavior. A deep deterministic policy gradient model is then employed to extract nonlinear features and invariant structures of each sub-frequency for power load. Finally, a new reward function for imbalanced samples is developed to effectively evaluate the policy score of the actor-network and further improve the prediction performance of the deep deterministic policy gradient. The proposed deterministic forecasting approach is used to actual power load data from an independent system operator from a city in China. The prediction results of the proposed method are presented in case studies, which have been demonstrated to achieve superior performance in terms of seasons and various prediction horizons compared with other prediction models. © 2022 The Institution of Engineering and Technology. In this paper, according to utilizing a self-adaptive technique, we present a self-adaptive trust region method for effectively solving tensor eigenvalue complementarity problems of various structures. Our proposed method demonstrates global convergence under suitable conditions. The numerical examples conducted in this study highlight the superior efficiency of our approach in comparison to the inexact Levenberg-Marquardt method and modified spectral PRP conjugate gradient method for computing tensor eigenvalue complementarity problems.
