Statistical analysis of natural luminance and colour images have shown to display non-Gaussian distributions. We review a recent result on the non-linear sparse filter response distribution observed in, and illustrate its application to the problem of colorizing natural gray images. We further utilise elements of both image statistics and colorization for compression of the chromacity channels of image data.

In this paper, we propose a new lossy image compression algorithm for DICOM ( Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine) images using Bilinear interpolation. This method presents a technique for classification of the image blocks on the basis of threshold value of variance. The image is divided into [m×n] blocks. Depending on the variance, the block is classified as significant or insignificant. The corner pixels of the blocks are stored and the remaining pixels are obtained by bilinear *** difference between the original and interpolated image is calculated and the difference is transmitted along with corner pixels and header data. At the receiving end, images are reconstructed with corner pixels. The difference is added only to the significant blocks. The experimental results shows that the proposed technique yields better performance by yielding good compression ratio and PSNR which is much desired in medical images.

In many applications encryption/decryption of compressed images or videos is desired to be transparent to the compression decoder to maintain the file format, file size and content-relevant functionalities. We propose in this paper a transparent encryption mechanism for JPEG-encoded image files to meet the requirements of format-compliance and file-size preservation. The algorithm is based on a special cross-block varied-length codes (VLC) shuffling method perceptually enhanced by a reversible histogram spreading processing, which tends to smoothly re-distribute VLCs among spatial blocks in a reversible way. The algorithm performs visually better than existing shuffling based schemes against content leakage attacks such as DC value removal.

video data security is very important for multimedia applications, such as video surveillance and real time videoconference. Although many video encryption methods have been reported, no systematic visual security assessment means have been proposed. Now, security analysis of video encryption put emphasis only on the encryption algorithm itself. However, the intelligibility of the encrypted video needs also to be investigated. Typically, the objective assessment is required to assess how much the video information in cipher-videos is distorted, shuffled, and unrecognized. In this paper, three visual security assessment methods are presented for video encryption. They are structure distortion, image entropy, and spatial correlation. Experiment results are presented and analyzed. It shows that our scheme can provide objective assessment compliant with subjective assessment, and is also suitable for the security assessment of other selective video encryption algorithms.

Lattice independence and strong lattice independence of a set of pattern vectors are fundamental mathematical proper-ties that lie at the core of pattern recognition applications based on lattice theory. Specifically, the development of morphological associative memories robust to inputs corrupted by random noise are based on strong lattice independent sets, and real world problems, such as, autonomous endmember detection in hyperspectral imagery, use auto-associative morphological memories as detectors of lattice independence. In this paper, we present a unified mathematical framework that-develops the relationship between different notions of lattice independence currently used in the literature. Computational procedures are provided to test if a given set of pattern vectors is lattice independent or strongly lattice independent;in addition, different techniques are fully described that can be used to generate sets of vectors with the aforementioned lattice properties.

The rapid growth in multimedia based Internet systems and applications like video telephony, video on demand and also tele-medicine has created a great need for multimedia security. One of the important requirements for multimedia security is encryption. Owing to the size of multimedia data and real time requirements, lightweight encryption schemes are important. Lightweight encryption schemes are based on taking the structure of multimedia data into consideration and partially encrypting the content. Even though several lightweight encryption schemes are existing for lossy compression schemes, their do not exist any lightweight encryption scheme for lossless compression. In this paper we present a lossless compression scheme for image, and we show how this scheme can be also used for supporting scalable lightweight encryption.

Watermarking aims at enforcing property right for digital video: a mark is imperceptibly - transparently - embedded into original data. The true owner is identified by detecting this mark. The robust watermarking techniques allow the mark detection even when the protected video is attacked. Transparency and robustness constraints restrict the mark size: the better transparency and robustness, the smaller the data payload. The paper presents a method to evaluate the maximum quantity of information which can be theoretically inserted into the 2D-DCT coefficient hierarchy, for prescribed transparency and robustness. This approach relies on the noisy channel model for watermarking. Within this mathematical framework, the maximal data payload is expressed by the channel capacity. As any capacity evaluation procedure requires an intimate knowledge of the noise sources, the paper first describes the developed statistical approach enabling: (1) to properly handle the inner dependency existing among successive frames in a video sequence, and (2) to accurately check-out the Gaussian behaviour for each noise source. The experiments were carried out in partnership with the SFR mobile service provider in France (Vodafone group).
