With the rapid growth of wireless access to the Internet, there has been an increasing demand in providing high data rate real time traffic such as audio and video over wideband wireless channels. However, the transmitted multimedia traffic experience frequency-selective fading in wideband wireless channels. By dividing the wideband channel into several smaller sub-channels and sending multimedia traffic in parallel orthogonal sub-channels, which is widely known as orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM), the frequency-selective channel can be transformed into a set of frequency-flat channels. OFDM has become a prospective technique for the next generation wireless communications. In this paper, we analyze the effect of sub-carrier assignment on the transmitted multimedia traffic. By increasing the number of sub-carriers, each sub-channel behaves practically as a quasic-static one, such that frequency-selective fading and intersymbol interference (ISI) can be alleviated. The multiplexing of sub-carriers is introduced to combat the variability of wireless channel, but the performance of wireless channel would also be degraded. We present a quality assessment of audio and video traffic over OFDM wireless channel based on sub-carrier assignment. Simulation results show that proper sub-carrier assignment could significantly reduce errors during high rate multimedia transmission.

Scarcity of the spectrum resource and mobility of users make Quality-of-Service (QoS) provision a critical issue in cellular mobile multimedia networks. This paper presents a fuzzy call admission control scheme to meet the requirement of the QoS while prioritizing handoff call requests over new call requests. It searches automatically the number of the guard channel in a base station to make an effective use of resource and guarantee the QoS provision. A performance measure is formed as a weighted linear function of new call and handoff call blocking probabilities of each service class. Simulation compares the proposed fuzzy scheme with some well-known policies. Simulation results show that fuzzy scheme has a better robust performance in terms of average blocking criterion.

The contribution of this work is the deployment of real time testbeds for the 5G NSA (Non-StandAlone) and the 5G SA (StandAlone) mobile architectures to provide both Voice over LTE (VoLTE) and Voice over New Radio (VoNR) services. In addition, an IMS (IP multimedia Subsystem) core network was deployed to provide voice over IP services. The IEEE 802.15.4/ZigBee technology is emerging as an important wireless sensor networking solution for short and medium range communication due to its numerous advantages. On the other hand, multimedia applications have gained increasing popularity that gives us the opportunity to improve this technology to support video transmission. In limited bandwidth ZigBee networks (250 kbps at 2.4 GHz), how to increase the throughput in constrained environments has become the main challenge. Multi-path becomes a crucial feature in supporting video transmission. Using simultaneous multiple paths provides the bandwidth requirements of multimedia applications. Unfortunately, concurrent transmission creates the problem of inter-path interference mainly due to the broadcast nature of the underlying medium. In this paper, we propose an interference-minimized multipath routing to facilitate MPEG-4 video transmission over ZigBee-based WSNs. This latter is evaluated using comparison with an interfering multipath routing version and the single path routing under different video frame rates. Results show that the proposed interference-aware multipath routing for Zig Bee-based WSNs can dramatically reduce the level of interference and thus maximize the overall throughput and improve the received video quality.

Though the current cloud computing is in its initial stage of development, some established players, such as Amazon, Google, ***, have captured market shares with their own strategies and standards. However, for a further development for this immature market, it has been proposed a general standard (like TCP/IP for internet) among cloud participants. There are some standards under drafting, but it seems impractical for established players to agree on a general one, for they already have their own standards. What's more, the ongoing creation in the industry undermines standardization;On the other hand, each cloud provider is taking an active role in making its own API, for instance VMware's vCloud, an open standard, but the cost is consumers' lock-in. Thus, conversion technology seems to have a brighter future than standardization towards achieving interoperability. This study discusses various issues concerning the realization of interoperability by conversion technology. Primarily, an economic model is used for reference to analyze the market's incentive to adopt such technology, especially in such a market with network effects. Then a sequence of issues regarding technique, economy, management, security and politics are put forward and discussed, ending with an outlook for the industry. These discussions have important implications for realization of interoperability under the current condition where standardization is somewhat costly and impractical.

multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (MBMS)(1) is an efficiency cellular strategy for shared content delivery, widely popular in Long Term Evolution (LTE) networks. Typical multimedia IP packets possess redundantly large headers, relying on Robust Header Compression (ROHC) for efficiency boost. This work investigates the adaptation of ROHC schemes for MBMS. We formulate and solve the optimization problem of transmission efficiency maximization in point-to-multipoint (P-t-M) transmission mode. Based on this solution, we propose a new MBMS scheme, namely point-to-multigroup (P-t-MG) transmission in which MBMS aim user groups. We provide a grouping and parameter optimization algorithm for P-t-MG to achieve high efficiency under total radio resource constraints. Numerical results demonstrate the advantage of the optimized P-t-M and the P-t-MG schemes over conventional MBMS.
