This paper proposes the semantic generalization. This generalization makes it possible for a shape graph, which corresponds to a relation schema in the relational data model, to have elements by considering the semantics of the elements of the original shape graphs even if there is no common element in the original shape graphs. For this purpose, viewpoints and relationship trees are introduced. A viewpoint is a sub graph of a schema graph, and plays a role of a kind of hierarchy of concepts. A relationship tree is a hierarchy of relationships. The semantic generalization is informally and formally described. It is shown that the conventional generalization could be realized by using the semantic generalization.

Wireless mesh networks (WMNs) are next generation networks that have emerged as a promising technology capable of providing broadband connectivity at low cost, and offers advantages in scenarios where cabling is too expensive or prohibitive. Rural communities are a good example of these kind of scenarios. Deployment of WMNs in rural communities can be done with a low budget, and expansion of the network can be done as the community grows. In this paper we evaluate the performance of a small scale wireless mesh network, comparing two well known routing protocols for WMNs, B.A.T.M.A.N. Advanced and the 802.11s standard, against an OpenFlow controller. Then, by deploying a testbed we verify their bandwidth, datagram loss and jitter. Finally, our results show that both routing protocols have advantages and disadvantages. Besides, the OpenFlow approach shows an acceptable performance compared to the routing protocols; however, some adjustments are needed to optimize the performance of OpenFlow in WMNs. Our contribution in this paper is the characterization of the multimedia service capacity of wireless mesh networks for rural communities.

The demand for enhanced QoS/QoE increases as multimedia applications/services are being widely deployed on mobile devices. Especially, in time-varying wireless/mobile networks, it is becoming essential to provide adaptive multimedia transmission in order to maintain desired QoS/QoE levels regardless of the network situation. A cross-layer approach can be useful to support such adaptive multimedia transmission by considering dynamic channel status. This paper first describes the need for enhanced QoS/QoE support and presents an architecture for adaptive QoS/QoE control based on the cross-layer approach.

The Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) has gained the momentum in signal processing and image compression over the last decade bringing the concept up to the level of new image coding standard JPEG2000. Thanks to many added values in DWT, in particular inherent multi-resolution nature, wavelet-coding schemes are suitable for various applications where scalability and tolerable degradation are relevant. Moreover, as we demonstrate in this paper, it can be used as a perfect benchmarking procedure for more sophisticated data compression and multimedia applications using General Purpose Graphical Processor Units (GPGPUs). Thus, in this paper we show and compare experiments performed on reference implementations of DWT on Cell Broadband Engine Architecture (Cell B.E) and nVidia Graphical Processing Units (GPUs). The achieved results show clearly that although both GPU and Cell B.E. are being considered as representatives of the same hybrid architecture devices class they differ greatly in programming style and optimization techniques that need to be taken into account during the development. In order to show the speedup, the parallel algorithm has been compared to sequential computation performed on the x86 architecture.

The paper gain is to present at the glance applications proposed, deployed and tested within Future Internet Engineering (FIE) project. The elaborated applications utilize the general concept of IP multimedia Subsystem (IMS) according to which the IMS core servers (Parallel Internets) are treated as a docking station for any kind of application servers. It also means that the applications may be running as long as IMS provides standardized and extended interfaces. The mentioned applications have been selected as representative for process-oriented business organizations characterized by service- and process-oriented models and implementation (SOA, Web Services, Semantic Web, Web of data, content- and context aware applications, etc.) based on service-oriented architectures, pervasive computing and communication-enabled applications paradigms. In the applications' architectures complex, "autonomic" self-organizing distributed systems/workflows with autonomous components are specified, realized, simulated and evaluated as a based on active component technologies. Application-driven content- and context-aware networks support process- and service-oriented processes. A combination of the above mentioned models (the push and pull model), architecture and approaches are possible and attractive from research, application and business perspectives. All the shortly presented applications may be considered as Over-The-Top (OTT) applications which effectively commoditize intelligent network services.

The linear blendshape technique has been intensively used for computer animation and games because of its simplicity and effectiveness. However, it cannot describe rotational deformations and deformations because of self collision or scene interaction. In this paper, we present a new technique to address these two major limitations by introducing physical-based simulation to blendshapes. The proposed technique begins by constructing a massspring system for each blendshape target. Each system is initialized in its steady state by setting the rest length of each spring as the edge length of the corresponding target. To begin shape interpolation, we linearly interpolate the rest lengths of the springs according to a given interpolation factor a???[0,1]. The interpolated shape is then generated by computing the equilibrium of the massspring system with the interpolated rest lengths. Results from our technique show physically plausible deformations even in the case of large rotations between blendshape targets. In addition, the new blendshape model is able to interact with other scene elements by introducing collision detection and handling to the massspring system. This paper presents the Content Aware Network designed as one of the Parallel Internets developed on Virtual Infrastructure. The CAN is a post-IP network designed to facilitate access to multimedia content in large scale environment. We introduce the proposed CAN network architecture and discuss mechanisms and algorithms required to assure ubiquitous content access and efficient content delivery. In particular, we propose new content naming and resolution schemes, an effective content source selection algorithm, which optimize resource utilization and the flexible content delivery method. Moreover, we present developed prototype and numerical results illustrating effectiveness of proposed CAN delivery method.

High speed, low power SRAMs have become a critical component of many VLSI chips. This is especially true for microprocessors, where the on-chip cache sizes are growing with each generation to bridge the increasing divergence in the speeds of the processor and the main memory. Simultaneously, power dissipation has become an important consideration. A 64×64 SRAM memory system is designed, implemented and tested for correct read, write operation and performed the reconfiguration on memory system in order to optimize power. This paper presents a performance analysis of reconfigurable memory system for low power application. A 64×64 lena image is taken as test engine to validate the designed reconfigurable SRAM architecture. Simulations using TSMC 0.35um technology show that the SRAM cell read and write access times are 1.53ns and 1.93ns. Mentor Graphics ELDO and EZ-wave are used for simulations.

3D face database is an important data platform for model training, algorithm design. Especially for these researches based on statistical learning method, the algorithm performance has a great dependency on training sample set. Subject to the constraint of data acquisition equipment the data structure of current 3D face samples are different. It is incontinent to use these samples without regulation. To solve this problem, this paper presents an regulating method for existing 3D databases based on surface deformation. The experiment results show that the proposed method has good performance on face regulation.

Real time multimedia content transmission on the Internet is essential for the most current applications such as voice over IP, video conference, games and web TV. The most popular Internet transport protocols - TCP and UDP - do not suffice when one needs to transmit data from these applications. As a consequence, IETF has been working in new transport protocols that enhance the quality of these multimedia applications. Among all these protocols, DCCP (RFC 4340) is the most effective for multimedia content transmission on the Internet. However, DCCP is not effective in scenarios with many receivers nodes and one sender node. Therefore, this work proposes the Mult(Uni)cast DCCP, a DCCP variant that enables the multimedia data transmission from one to various nodes and supporting non-reliable traffic congestion control. The MU-DCCP uses either multicast or unicast flows according to the network support and data sharing among receiver nodes. The obtained results show that the usage of the MU-DCCP significantly reduces the data congestion in the network while improving the application scalability in terms of the number of receiver nodes.
