Exposure problem, which corresponds to the quality of coverage, is a fundamental problem in wireless sensor networks. In this paper, we exploit a cellular computing model in the physarum for solving the minimal exposure problem. We first use the road-network among all points of interesting (PoIs) in the monitoring filed to formulate the minimal exposure problem, and then convert it into the Steiner tree problem by discretizing the monitoring field to a large-scale weighted grid. Inspired by the path-finding capability of physarum, we develop a new heuristic algorithm, named as the physarum optimization, to solve the Steiner tree problem with low complexity and high parallelism. Extensive simulations demonstrate that our proposed models and algorithm are effective for finding the road-network with minimal exposure.

Exposing the fundamental network capabilities on behalf of the mobile network operator may offer innovative way for the service providers to provide more user-oriented services. The network capability we focus on is online charging, and in particular the lack of functional relationship between the online charging and the service delivery processes (other than the obvious one, reducing the available credit). With the goal to make better use of the knowledge about the users which is available to the operator, we identify and examine the user-related information that can be found at various functions in the mobile network as a whole. Current 3GPP specifications enable the online charging system to retrieve some of this information but this potential has not yet been used to the fullest, for example, when considering multiple concurrent services and service adaptation. We propose a model of managing and using the user charging context, based on “smarter” use of information available to the operator. We illustrate the proposed approach by a use case involving an adaptive multimedia service the behavior of which is influenced in a positive way by user context based online charging.

The NGN concept is implementing on the operator networks by SoftSwitch platform and IP multimedia Subsystem (IMS) platform up to now. The functional requirements and architectures were determined at ITU-T recommendations Y.2012 and Y.2021 for SoftSwitch and IMS respectively. Both of these platforms have the accomplishments and limitations. The Distributed Service Network (DSN) became a new platform for NGN concept implementation. New DSN and IMS combined network architecture is proposed for Russian networks future architecture.

Advances in medical imaging technologies, particularly magnetic resonance imaging and multi-detector Computed Tomography (CT), have resulted in substantial increase in the size of datasets. In order to reduce the cost of storage and diagnostic analysis and transmission time without significant reduction in image quality, a state of the art image compression technique is required. We propose a context based and regions of interest (ROI) based approach for the compression of 3D CT images and in particular vascular images, where a high spatial resolution and contrast sensitivity is required in specific areas;the methodology is developed based on the Jpeg2000 standard to provide a variable level of compression in the (x,y) plane as well as in the z axis. The proposed lossy-to-lossless method compresses multiple ROIs depending on the degrees of clinical interest. High priority areas are assigned a higher precision (up to lossless compression) than other areas such as background. ROIs are annotated automatically. The method was optimized and applied to the vascular images from CT angiography for peripheral arteries and compared with a standard medical image codec on 10 datasets regarding image quality and diagnostic performances. The average size of the compressed images can be reduced to 61 percent with no remarkable impairment for the diagnostic accuracy.

We present an efficient distributed graph database architecture for large scale social computing. The architecture consists of a distributed graph data processing system and a distributed graph data storage system. We leverage the advantages of both systems to achieve efficient social computing. We conduct extensive experiments to demonstrate the performance of our system. We employ four real-world, large scale social networks - YouTube, Flicker, LiveJournal and Orkut as test data. We also implement several representative social applications and graph algorithms to examine the performance of our system. We employ two main optimization techniques in our system ¡Vindexing and graph partitioning. Experimental results indicate that our system outperforms GoldenOrb, an implementation Pregel model from Google.

M2M video streaming service has been widely used. In order to evaluate the impact of the uplink traffic caused by M2M video streaming on the mobile network, it is necessary to establish the traffic model of the M2M mobile video services. There are two main types of traffic models in the existing video traffic model. The traffic model based on the self-similarity of video streaming is too complex to be simulate. The traffic model based on probability density did not consider the frame size of MPEG-4 videos. This paper selected several distributions with heavy-tail to fit several video sources. The video sources are selected according to the requirements of the M2M service aspects and the limitation of the mobile network resources. The distributions include Gamma distribution, Pareto distribution, lognormal distribution and Weibull distribution. After comparing the fitness figure, fitness figure deference ratio, mean frame size similarity, we find that lognormal distribution is able to reflect the characteristic of the video source frame size. Further, based on the analysis on the mean bit rate and frame rate, considering the recommendation of bandwidth for video from 3GPP, the frame rate of the traffic model is given in the paper. In summary, a traffic model including frame size and frame rate is presented in the paper. Fitting results show that the distribution presented in the paper is 0.07%~2% degree better than the distribution presented in 3GPP specification. The mean frame size of the model is 99% similar to the mean frame size of the video source. Further, the distribution used in traffic model is a commonly used mathematical distribution in major of simulation software.

Cross-domain Cloud Brokering mechanisms enable elastic and cost-efficient utilization of cloud resources distributed across multiple cloud platforms. They are allowing cloud service providers to cost-efficiently exploit the growing competition in the cloud provider market. Existing elastic cloud computing solutions are optimizing cloud resource utilization merely within a specific cloud provider platform. Optimized multi-site Cloud Brokering mechanisms on the other hand enable economically efficient cloud resource consumption. However, in order to satisfy QoS requirements of cloud-based, real-time multimedia telecommunication services, enhanced QoS assurance mechanisms for multi-site cloud brokers need to be in place. In this paper we optimize and evaluate the FOKUS Cloud Broker solution through experimentation in a multi-site cloud testing facility which allows experimentation under different networking conditions, i.e. over standard, best-effort internet connections across several cloud platforms in Europe, as well as under fully controllable network conditions. The result of this work shows the benefits of network-aware cloud brokering mechanisms. Moreover, this paper shows the terms under which additional real-time data on network performance is useful for enhancing cloud brokering mechanisms, especially for meeting QoS requirements of realtime communication services. This work also shows how initial, service-specific correlation of network, service and host performance parameters, furthermore improves the overall cloud brokering performance.

The new generations of mobile technologies and the services, they aim to offer have been a subject of debate in the wireless world for the past two decades. Because the only factor to meet the world standard development's requirement is all about using the information technology [1], the developments in the mobile industries have shown a very important advancement as the mobile data consumption enables not only to improve the capacity in the coverage of mobile network, but also to increase the capabilities of mobile applications. Accessing and transmitting high definitions data such as high-speed data, voice signal, video, multimedia and internet is now possible with spread spectrum code division multiple access based techniques[2]. With the mobile technologies becoming a part of our daily life in recent years, the actual wireless network structure has changed because of the huge demand of data traffic, and different multiple access schemes arising likely three being adopted as international standard for digital communication by the third generation partnership project (3GPP). In order to support the digital communication among the still growing community and from wherever their geographical location is, these three standards have been well implemented and spread all over with an unpredictable speed in China. For about a decade now in China, three major carriers China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom are providing respectively the TD- SCDMA, W-CDMA and CDMA 2000, with an important impact that influenced the China market, experiencing an unprecedented growth and success lately in terms of the increasing demand in wireless technology consumption with hardware and software. Meanwhile the Chinese TD-SCDMA has influenced considerably to globally reduce the system license cost proposed by patent holders. The paper explores excavation as a metaphor or conceptual lens for gaining insights to cyber-structures enacted in virtual settlements. More importantly, we vision such excavations in the context of enlarged Internet of Things, an inter-connected world of online remains capable of providing a different lens on how to make sense of cyber-structures linked via and enacted through the Internet. The emphasis is on conditions for virtual excavations, techniques which could be used to support them as well as their analytical value to making sense of what and how people do (interact) online. A case study is used to provide baseline data for framing the notion of digital remains or traces of virtual settlements, the form they take in today's social web and the means through which they are revealed and made sense of using social visualization techniques. It turns out that virtual excavations organized around cultural artifacts of practice can provide valuable insight, not only into structural properties of 'social' technologies and the way in which they are appropriated, but also dynamic aspects of the enacted cyber-structures resulting from recurrent co-engagement and online collaboration.

With the ever increasing size of data sets, traditional parallel relational database solution can be prohibitively expensive and may suffer limited scalability. To perform large-scale data processing in a cost-effective manner, several NoSQL data processing systems have been proposed. In this paper, we devise a new, distributed B-tree column indexing scheme for HBase, which can support indexing for non-row-key columns, as well as parallel B-tree search in large data table. Our experiment results demonstrate both performance and scalability advantage of our indexing scheme on point queries, range queries, and aggregation operations, compared with HBase.
