Peer-to-peer networks offer advantages over traditional client-server networking models, such as the lack of a need for connectivity to trusted intermediary hosts or servers and the use of less costly communication links. While they have become popular in the wired broadband environment, they have not yet been effectively adapted to the resource-constrained mobile network environment. They promise significant potential in applications such as the sharing of files like multimedia and operating system updates between mobile devices. However, the peer-to-peer model faces unique challenges in the mobile context, such as limitations on processing power, on-board device memory, wireless data bandwidth, and available battery energy. We propose a high-level framework for a peer-to-peer protocol with these specific constraints addressed. In addition, we investigate the feasibility of a practical implementation of a peer-to-peer file sharing model on smartphones, including an analysis of how performance is impacted by various variables that can be dynamically controlled in the protocol. Through experimentation on leading smartphones, we have found various optimal strategies, including minimizing the upload-to-download ratio to conserve battery life, using larger file segments to increase throughput, and using sockets to decrease memory overhead.

In this paper, we try to present a social networking model based on a hybrid combination of mp2p and traditional client-server technologies. The handheld devices used today are much better in performance in terms of processing power and memory than many of the web servers of early times. These handheld devices are also equipped with so many multimedia features that they have become the primary device for people to capture day-to-day occurrences. Moreover, a handheld device is always carried by a person with him wherever he goes. We would try to develop a hybrid model of client-server and peer to peer technologies which would provide spontaneous and instantaneous updates to the peers in the trusted group without actually "pushing" of updates by the user, at the same time, overcoming the limitations of traditional client-server approach of the social networking websites of today.

Web 2.0 applications are a rich source of multimedia resources, that describe sights, events, whether conditions, traffic situations and other relevant objects along the user's route. Compared to static sight descriptions, Web 2.0 resources can provide up-to-date visual information, which has been found important or interesting by the other users. Some algorithms have been suggested recently for the landmark finding problem from photos. Still, if users want related videos or background information about a particular place of interest it is necessary to contact different social platforms or general search engines. In this paper we present GuideMe! - a mobile application that automatically identifies landmark tags from Flickr groups and gathers relevant sightseeing resources from various Web 2.0 social platforms.

This paper presents a case study for an approach to managing Quality of Service (QoS) for real-time multimedia services by means of session reconfiguration. The key components of the proposed approach are: (1) mobility events that stem from session mobility and terminal mobility, and affect established QoS, and (2) basic operations that are called reconfiguration primitives. Mobility events drive the session reconfiguration, which then applies reconfiguration primitives to maintain or adapt QoS. A set of the required QoS functional aspects serves as the basis for modelling generic functional network architecture, which is closely outlined. The case study which involves applying the approach in a Future Internet architecture is described in more detail. It builds on a real-network prototype that facilitates session control and the QoS management by using the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) signalling. Demonstrated use case illustrates that QoS is maintained when a user switches from one terminal device to another.
