Support Vector Machine (SVM) is an efficient data mining approach for data classification. However, SVM algorithm requires very large memory requirement and computational time to deal with very large dataset. To reduce the computational time during the process of training the SVM, a combination of distributed and parallel computing method, CoDLib have been proposed. Instead of using a single machine for parallel computing, multiple machines in a cluster are used. Message Passing Interface (MPI) is used in the communication between machines in the cluster. The original dataset is split and distributed to the respective machines. Experiments results shows a great speed up on the training of the MNIST dataset where training time has been significantly reduced compared with standard LIBSVM without affecting the quality of the SVM.

Remote forensics can help investigators perform investigation without need to ship hard drives or travel to a remote location. With increased use of cloud computing technologies, it is becoming more and more difficult to perform post-event forensic investigation. The difficulty consists in that thousands upon thousands of disparate data from different data owners may be stored on a single storage device (e.g., a remote server). To clone a copy of data from the storage device is a costly and time consuming task and may not be easy due to the huge volume of data. Even if it is possible to make a clone, investigating all the data one by one will inevitably result in exposing irrelevant data to the investigators while data owners may be unwilling to expose it because it may involve their privacy information. The other alternative is to let the server administrator search the relevant information and retrieve the data for the investigators provided a warrant can be provided. However, sometimes, the investigators need to keep the investigation subject confidential due to the confidentiality of the crime or the server administrator may be one of the suspects. In this paper, we address how to solve this problem by multiple keyword search over encrypted data, so that the investigators can obtain the necessary evidence while keeping the investigation subject confidential and at the same time, the irrelevant data can be protected from exposing to the investigators.

When 3D video is transmitted over lossy channels, different strategies can be adopted at the different layers of the communication protocol stack to cope with such errors, in a cross-layer operation framework. At the receiver side, effective error concealment methods are necessary to overcome the quality loss due to erroneous packets. The existing concealment techniques for conventional 2D video can be individually applied for each component/view associated with 3D video. Novel error concealment methods which utilize inherent characteristics of 3D video are also emerging. This paper proposes a colour/texture initiated error concealment method for colour plus depth based 3D video. The error concealment process starts from the colour image sequence as accurate texture information is required to render good quality 2D/3D video with the DIBR (Depth Image-Based-Rendering) method. Since the depth map represents the basic structure of the corresponding colour image, the proposed method utilizes colour image concealment to conceal the errors in the associated depth map as well. This colour/texture image based temporal error concealment method is tested over a backward compatible Scalable Video Coding (SVC) architecture and a simulated packet loss network. The objective and subjective results/illustrations show that improved 2D/3D video quality can be achieved with the proposed method. ©2011 IEEE © 2011 IEEE.

Mobile Ad-hoc networks(MANET)s are self organizing networks which can form a communication network without any fixed infrastructure. The constant bit rate (CBR) traffic is very well known traffic model for mobile Ad-hoc network. CBR traffic generates data packets at a constant rate. This constant rate packet generational is good enough for text data packets. The multimedia applications generally generate packets which sometimes increase and might be sometimes followed by some idle period. CBR traffic model does not accommodate the specific features of multimedia data. The day by day increase of multimedia data prompts us to investigate some other traffic models which can accommodate the specific features of these data. One such traffic model is Exponential traffic model which is based on exponential distribution. The other model is Pareto traffic model based on Pareto distribution. In this article, we have tried to study the behavior of mobile Ad-hoc network routing protocols under Exponential and Pareto traffic sources for nodes moving with Reference Point Group Mobility model (RPGM). To the best of our knowledge, this is the first attempt to analyze the effect of traffic patterns with Reference Point Group Mobility (RPGM) model on mobile ad hoc network routing. We have chosen the Normalized routing load, Packet Delivery Fraction and throughput as our figures of merit to compare various protocols. We found high Normalized Routing Load for both Exponential and Pareto traffic compared to CBR traffic in both Dynamic Source Routing (DSR) and Ad hoc On-demand Distance Vector protocol. The Packet Delivery Fraction is comparable in all types of traffic patterns and routing protocols. Throughput is high for Ad hoc On-demand Distance Vector (AODV) routing protocol across all traffic models.

This paper presents a new bilayer video segmentation algorithm focusing on videoconferencing application. A face tracking algorithm is used to guide a generic Ω-shaped template of the head and shoulders. A region of interest (ROI) is created around the generic template, and an energy function based on edge, color and motion cues is used to define the boundary between the person and the background. Our experimental results indicate that the silhouettes can be effectively extracted in common videoconferencing scenarios.

Mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) are becoming more essential to wireless communications due to growing popularity of mobile devices. The integration of mobile ad hoc devices inside vehicles has led to another type of networks, called Vehicular Ad hoc Networks (VANETs) which are also becoming important. These networks require specialized routing protocols due to their ad hoc nature. The performance of these protocols has been tested for the case of general traffic but not in respect with to multimedia traffic and especially video transmission. In this paper we conduct a number of simulations in order to evaluate the performance of three of the most popular routing protocols for MANETs and VANETs, namely AODV, DSR and OLSR, for different number of simultaneous video transmissions. We use the packet delivery ratio, the end-to-end delay, the packet delay variation (jitter) and the routing overhead as evaluation metrics. The results indicate that the DSR protocol outperforms AODV and OLSR in terms of end-to-end delay and packet delay variation and seems to be the most efficient routing protocol when multimedia traffic and especially video traffic is considered.

Social networking becomes increasingly important due to the recent surge in online interaction. Social network analysis can be used to study the functioning of computer networks, information flow patterns in communities, and emergent behavior of physical and biological systems. In this paper, the mathematical formulation and computational models for security and privacy of social network data are discussed. Several possible ways for an attacker to attack are presented so that the mathematical formulation can take them into account. The metrics for measuring the amount of security and privacy in an online social network (OSN) are discussed so that we have an idea of how good a model is. Based on these current techniques and attack strategies, future directions of research are discussed.

The next generation network with high data rate and large coverage is demanded. In the cellular network, the enhanced MIMO-OFDMA relaying technology has become one of the most promising solutions. In a relay-enhanced cellular, multiple Relay Stations (RSs) are deployed to assist transmissions between a Base Station (BS) and multiple Mobile Stations (MSs). However, the resource allocation becomes more complicated and crucial to achieve relaying gain of the potential capacity and coverage. Through enhanced relay stations in each cellular, this paper investigates the issue of reuse partitioning in cellular system with two-hop fixed MIMO-OFDMA relay nodes (FRNs). The simulation results show that compared with the conventional solution in cellular network, our proposed scheme not only improves the system capacity, but also provides better quality of service (QoS) for users located at cell edges.

This paper proposes a modified parallel turbo structure based on embedding the unequal error protection concepts in parallel concatenated convolutional codes. These concepts may be required for compressed data packets transmission whose sensitivities to channel errors are not uniformly distributed. We develop a new method for obtaining turbo gains for unequally protected classes of bits by using a parallel concatenation of encoders separated by increasing size interleavers. A progressive and hierarchical encoding of the decreasing priority bits of one data frame is performed through consecutive partial rate-1 dimensions projections. The result is one data frame whose bits are encoded in a number of dimensions proportional to their respective priority in terms of channel sensitivity to errors. The iterative decoding algorithm is modified in consequence; turbo gains are consistent for all priority subframes during iterations and a noticeable increased gain is obtained for lower level bits. Performances for a two priority data frame are given in comparison with the classical structure of parallel turbo codes and recursive systematic convolutional code.
