When 3D video is transmitted over lossy channels, different strategies can be adopted at the different layers of the communication protocol stack to cope with such errors, in a cross-layer operation framework. At the receiver side, effective error concealment methods are necessary to overcome the quality loss due to erroneous packets. The existing concealment techniques for conventional 2D video can be individually applied for each component/view associated with 3D video. Novel error concealment methods which utilize inherent characteristics of 3D video are also emerging. This paper proposes a colour/texture initiated error concealment method for colour plus depth based 3D video. The error concealment process starts from the colour image sequence as accurate texture information is required to render good quality 2D/3D video with the DIBR (Depth Image-Based-Rendering) method. Since the depth map represents the basic structure of the corresponding colour image, the proposed method utilizes colour image concealment to conceal the errors in the associated depth map as well. This colour/texture image based temporal error concealment method is tested over a backward compatible Scalable Video Coding (SVC) architecture and a simulated packet loss network. The objective and subjective results/illustrations show that improved 2D/3D video quality can be achieved with the proposed method.

A critical aspect of applications with wireless sensor networks is network lifetime. Sensing and communications consume energy particularly in wireless multimedia sensor networks (WMSN) due to huge amount of data generated by the multimedia sensors. Therefore, judicious power management and sensor scheduling can effectively extend network lifetime. In this paper we consider the problem of scheduling multimedia sensor activities to maximize network lifetime. The environment is divided in domains monitored by clusters of multimedia sensor nodes. Network lifetime increment is achieved by cooperation between multimedia sensors in two priority-based ways: Intra-cluster cooperation and Inter-cluster cooperation. We will see that the lifetime of cluster nodes is considerably increased under the proposed node selection and scheduling procedures. As for big clusters, the lifetime even is prolonged to 5.5 times with respect to the ordinary un-cooperative node awakening.

Resource Scheduling is a centerpiece of data ***,most previous works concentrate only on one-dimensional model, which ignoring the fact that multiple resources such as CPU,memory and network bandwidth are consumed *** cloud computing allows uncoordinated and heterogeneous users to share a data center, competition for multiple resources has become increasingly severe. Motivated by the differences on integrated utilization obtained from different packing schemes,in this paper we model this scheduling problem as a multi-dimensional combinatorial optimization problem with constraint satisfaction. Due to the NP hardness,a novel heuristic algorithm called Multi-Attribute Decision based Integrated Resource Scheduling(MADIRS)is presented to obtain the approximate optimal *** simulation results show that our algorithm significantly outperforms the existing approaches in terms of efficiency and performance for a diverse set of workloads.

This paper presents a method of multimedia data access speedup based on IP-SAN. The method introduces double 110 paths for multimedia data access system: the multicast parth transmitting shared data and the iSCSI parth transmitting iSCSI PDU. The method extends the definition of iSCSI protocol to interpret the multicast session announcement and introduces a transparent agent to monitor the loading of multimedia server and decide when to launch the multicast session. Test results show that, the method boosts the performance of parallel media data access.

Wireless multimedia service is considered a promising application in the near future. However, current layered protocol stack is not conductive to provide adaptive multimedia streams in instable wireless environment. In this paper, a new Cross-Layer mechanism is proposed to solve this problem. A scalable video encoder can dynamically adjust its coding behavior according to the estimated available bandwidth, and optimize the quality of video streams. Simulation using NS-2 demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed mechanism.

The development of economics and the globalization of trade make cross-region communication increasingly frequent. Traditional communication methods, such as telephone, fax and Email can not satisfy people's daily demands. multimediaconference system supports people in different places share audio, video and documents to achieve real-time communication. Nowadays, multimediaconference system is mostly accessed via conference television and SIP terminal but lacks mobility support. In this paper, we design and implement a Symbian-based multimediaconference mobile terminal application with which 3G users can enjoy real-time and high-quality conference experience.

3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE) network system provides higher data rate and lower delay with improved coverage and spectrum efficiency for the wireless communications which leads to more creative services emerging, especially the multimedia services. 3GPP introduced the specification of IMS (IP multimedia Subsystem) which allows for cost efficient and flexible provision of enriched multimedia services over IP networks. In addition to building network environment for the multimedia service deployment, MBMS is proposed as the broadcast/multicast delivery technology. Up to now the controlling IMS and MBMS are separated subsystems. In this paper, we combine these two systems into an integrated network architecture which enables multimedia services to be deployed using MBMS specifications over IMS core network regarding the long-term vision of the 3GPP SAE/LTE architecture. Finally, the required signaling flow of some typical video services is depicted.

Quality of Experience (QoE) enhancement for a transmitted video sequence in Mobile Ad hoc NETworks (MANETs) is a challenging and important issue in networking research community. Intrinsic high levels of packet error probability in MANETs can cause high levels of distortion based on the position of packet loss in transmitted Intra-coded (I), Predicted (P) and Bi-predictive (B) frames. Hence, exact modelling of the impact of packet loss on the video quality and the resulting distortion is an important task. Many conventional distortion modelling techniques simply consider a linear relationship between the packet loss and distortion which is inaccurate. The main contributions of the current work are twofold. At first, an accurate model has been developed which can capture the exact effect of network packet loss on the video distortion (and hence on the QoE) with Group Of Picture (GOP)-level granularity. Then, based on this model, an optimal bandwidth allocation strategy is being developed in MANETs which based on some network-specific constraints, the loss-induced distortion associated with a video sources is being minimized using some cross-layer design techniques. Finally, the resulting optimal rates can be used as rate-feedbacks for on-line rate adaptation of a moderate video encoder such as H.264. Some numerical analysis have been presented to validate the theoretical results and to verify the claims.

This paper proposes a novel Dynamic Priority Time-Threshold-based Queuing bandwidth allocation Scheme for multimedia services (DPTTQM) in cellular networks. Because future data service will occupy a large portion of all services in next generation mobile networks, there is much significance in improving non-prioritized handoff data call dropping probability of Finite Queuing Adaptive Time-Threshold-based bandwidth allocation Scheme for multimedia services (FQATTSM) further. The proposed scheme modifies priority definition and bandwidth allocation of FQATTSM and then, uses a dynamic probabilistic priority policy for QoS guarantee of voice service. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme enormously improves performance of non-prioritized handoff data dropping probability and obviously reduces the average queuing delay of non-prioritized handoff data calls compared with FQATTSM.
