Long Term Evolution (LTE) constitutes the latest step before the 4th generation (4G) of radio technologies designed to increase the capacity and speed of mobile communications. To support multimedia Broadcast/Multicast Services (MBMS), LTE offers the possibility to transmit multimedia Broadcast multicast service over a Single Frequency Network (MBSFN), where a time-synchronized common waveform is transmitted from multiple cells for a given duration. This enables over-the-air combining, thus improving the Signal to Interference plus Noise Ratio (SINR) and spectral efficiency (SE) significantly compared to conventional MBMS operation. In this paper, we analytically calculate the SE performance achieved in a MBSFN area for a dynamically changing user topology and different modulation and coding schemes (MCS). Finally, based on the SE measurement, we determine the MCS scheme that either maximizes or achieves a target SE for the corresponding user distribution.

In this paper we build a Software Defined Radio (SDR) testbed for the mobile broadcast system which using hierarchical modulation based on the USRP (Universal Software Radio Peripheral) platform. In hierarchical modulation, two separate data streams are modulated into one single stream. One stream, called the "High Priority" (HP) stream is embedded within a "Low Priority" (LP) stream [1]. In multimedia Broadcast System, the multimedia source can be split into these two streams. The HP stream will guarantee basic visual effects and sound effects, while the LP stream offers a better performance. In order to verify the effect of hierarchical modulation applications in mobile multimedia broadcast system, the SDR testbed has been built. In SDR, the common basic communication procedures performed. The digital signal processing is done using computer, while actual transmitting and receiving process are carried out using the USRP board which can facilitate the development of PHY and MAC layers functionality. Then, we demonstrate the experimental platform with computer and the board. In particular, the implement will be visualized through video transmission.

With the rise of ubiquitous computing in recent years, concepts of spatiality have become a significant topic of discussion in design and development of multimedia systems. This article investigates spatial practices at the intersection of youth, technology, and urban space in Seoul, and examines what the author calls 'transyouth': in the South Korean context, these people are between the ages of 18 and 24, situated on the delicate border between digital natives and immigrants in Prensky's [46] terms. In the first section, the article sets out the technosocial environment of contemporary Seoul. This is followed by a discussion of social networking processes derived from semi-structured interviews conducted in 2007-2008 with Seoul transyouth about their 'lived experiences of the city.' Interviewees reported how they interact to play, work, and live with and within the city's unique environment. The article develops a theme of how technosocial convergence (re)creates urban environments and argues for a need to consider such user-driven spatial recreation in designing cities as (ubiquitous) urban networks in recognition of its changing technosocial contours of connections. This is explored in three spaces of different scales: Cyworld as an online social networking space;cocoon housing-a form of individual residential space which is growing rapidly in many Korean cities-as a private living space;and ubiquitous City as the future macro-space of Seoul.

Hybrid streaming delivery over converged mobile and broadcast networks can enable operators to transmit multimedia contents in a more efficient and flexible way. Consequently, the functions related to hybrid streaming delivery are recently standardized in the IP-based service layer standards for DVB-H, i.e. DVB-IPDC and OMA BCAST standards. In both standards, seamless service switching is one of the key building blocks for achieving hybrid streaming delivery. In this paper, we describe the experiences for implementing the function of streaming service switching between DVB-H broadcast and WiMAX mobile networks according to the abovementioned standards. In our implementation, instantiating two sets of audio and video codecs in parallel during service switching is avoid for reducing the required hardware resources in a terminal. In addition, the experiment results of streaming service switching are provided to show the performance of our implementation in an extreme test environment where the level of a DVB-H signal could be varied rapidly for simulating the observed room or building penetration loss for a moving terminal.

multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (MBMS), also called enhanced MBMS (e-MBMS) in LTE terminology, was introduced in the release 6 of the 3GPP standard to deliver multimedia content to a large group of users. The main requirement during the provision of MBMS services is to make an efficient overall usage of radio and network resources. There are two wireless transmission modes defined in LTE, i.e. Point-to-Point (P-t-P) and Point-to-Multipoint (P-t-M) transmission modes. MIMO systems promise high performance gains over conventional single antenna systems. It is expected to be an important component of the LTE particularly for the MBMS. In this paper, an adaptive MIMO scheme for E-MBMS in P-t-M transmission mode is presented and analyzed. Both spatial multiplexing and diversity techniques are focused on. Different spatial techniques are adaptively used depending on the different users' distributions in one MBMS section. Spatial diversity technique is used to enhance signal strength of the cell edge users;and spatial multiplexing technique is used to increase the data rate of the users with good signal strength. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme can improve the BER performance of the cell edge users, and increase the transmit data rate and data throughput.
