Today, much multicast fingerprint schemes have been proposed to protect the digital content's copyright in multicast environment. All of those schemes only consider the distributor's right. The generation and the embedding of the fingerprint are controlled by the distributors. Since that, the accusation against the charged redistributor, who was the subscriber in some earlier transaction, is rejected because that the distributor can also get the distributed fingerprinted copy to this subscriber. This is known as the subscriber's right problem. In Emmanuel and Kankanhalli 2003, they propose a scheme to protect both the distributor's copyright and subscriber's rights for digital video multicast. But in their scheme, they never consider the unbinding problem and the privacy of the subscriber. In this paper, we proposed an anonymous multicast fingerprinting scheme, to fix the Emmanuel and Kankanhalli's scheme by solving the unbinding problem, protecting the subscriber's privacy through a trusted third party. The result is a security, fair and anonymous multicast fingerprint protocol.

IEEE 802.16 Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) Systems support classes of traffic with differentiated Quality of Service (QoS). However, the detailed of how to schedule traffic are left unspecified In this paper, based on this hierarchical QoS architecture, we propose a novel two-tier scheduling strategy, called two-tier scheduling algorithm (2TSA). The first tier is category-based and the second tier is weight-based Both tiers are implemented at BSs. We evaluate the performance of 2TSA via simulation. The simulation results show that our proposed algorithm can achieve both QoS guarantee and fair bandwidth allocation.

In this paper, we proposed an adaptive fast inter mode decision algorithm to reduce the computation complexity of H.264/AVC encoder. It makes use of spatio-temporal correlation to filter out unlikely modes. Instead of performing all the seven inter prediction modes, only part of them are chosen for motion estimation and rate distortion optimization (RDO) procedure. Adopting a dynamic adjusted threshold makes the proposed method work well in different bit-rate conditions, especially in low bit-rate. Experimental results indicate that the proposed algorithm can achieve 23% time saving in inter mode decision on average while maintaining the similar rate distortion performance.

The allocation of scare spectral resources to support as many user running multimedia applications as possible while maintaining acceptable Quality of Service (QoS) is a fundamental problem in next generation wireless cellular networks. In this paper, we propose an adaptive bandwidth framework which aims at providing an effective management of the limited radio resources in wireless cellular networks. The framework consists of two integrated components, call admission Control module and Adaptive Bandwidth Allocation (ABA) module. The framework is designed to take advantage of the ABA module with new calls and handoff calls in order to provide an acceptable trade off between new call blocking and handoff call dropping probabilities. The elaborate simulation is conducted to verify the performance of the framework in terms of new call blocking probability, handoff call dropping probability, and bandwidth utilization.

The rapid increase of multimedia traffic has to be accounted for when designing IP networks. A key characteristic of multimedia traffic is that it has strict Quality of Service (QoS) requirements in a heterogeneous manner. There are many different traffic types which have different throughput and delay requirements. In such a setting, scheduling by service curves is a useful method as it allows for assigning each flow exactly the service it requires. When hosting heterogeneous multimedia traffic, the utilization of packet-switched networks can be increased by using bandwidth/delay decoupled scheduling disciplines. It has been shown in previous work(1) how optimal network service curves are obtained with them, where optimal means that each multimedia flow receives the required service with the least possible consumption of resources. A basic result from Network Calculus is that the network service curve is obtained by the min-plus convolution of the node service curves. We state a theorem on the min-plus convolution in this work, which simplifies the computation of the rnin-plus convolution of service curves of bandwidth/delay decoupled schedulers. The rather complex min-plus convolution simplifies to merely shifting the functions and taking the minimum. The theorem follows from the continuous Gamma Delta-transform, which we develop. With this theorem, we derive the optimal service curves for the nodes along a path. Further, we show how the admission control can be improved when networks are designed based on service curves. Considering one node, reallocating the service curves leads to admitting more flows. Then we point out scenarios where sub-optimal allocation of service curves in a node can increase the number of admitted flows to the network. The key results are accompanied by numerical examples. Scheduling a streaming application on high-performance computing (HPC) resources has to be sensitive to the computation and communication needs of each stage of the application dataflow graph to ensure QoS criteria such as latency and throughput. Since the grid has evolved out of traditional high-performance computing, the tools available for scheduling are more appropriate for batch-oriented applications. Our scheduler, called Streamline, considers the dynamic nature of the grid and runs periodically to adapt scheduling decisions using application requirements (per-stage computation and communication needs), application constraints (such as co-location of stages), and resource availability. The performance of Streamline is compared with an Optimal placement, Simulated Annealing (SA) approximations, and E-Condor, a streaming grid scheduler built using Condor. For kernels of streaming applications, we show that Streamline performs close to the Optimal and SA algorithms, and an order of magnitude better than E-Condor under non-uniform load conditions. We also conduct scalability studies showing the advantage of Streamline over other approaches.

We provide a survey of some of our recent results ([9], [13], [4], [6], [7]) on the analytical performance modeling of IEEE 802.11 wireless local area networks (WLANs). We first present extensions of the decoupling approach of Bianchi ([1]) to the saturation analysis of IEEE 802.11e networks with multiple traffic classes. We have found that even when analysing WLANs with unsaturated nodes the following state dependent service model works well: when a certain set of nodes is nonempty, their channel attempt behaviour is obtained from the corresponding fixed point analysis of the saturated system. We will present our experiences in using this approximation to model multimedia traffic over an IEEE 802.11e network using the enhanced DCF channel access (EDCA) mechanism. We have found that we can model TCP controlled file transfers, VoIP packet telephony, and streaming video in the IEEE802.11e setting by this simple approximation.

Multihoming provides highly diverse redundant paths in terms of average hop count, latency, loss ratio, and jitter. In this paper, we first explore topological path diversity and show that multihoming can significantly reduce the path overlap when a multihomed receiver conducts media streaming from a set of suppliers. We then design a multihome-aware media streaming system (MMS) that exploits topological path diversity by splitting a streaming session over the available physical links to reduce path overlap among the suppliers, and migrating a connection from one path to another if the current path is congested. A network tomography-based monitoring mechanism is developed to identify congested path segments. Through a series of experiments in the wide area Internet, we show that multihoming provides streaming at a higher rate comparing to a single service provider. On average the quality of streaming sessions is improved by 30% or more.

The availability of portable computing devices and advances in wireless networking technologies have contributed to the growing acceptance of mobile computing applications and opened the door for the possibility of seamless and pervasive services in mobile environments. However, with the dilemmas of limited device capabilities, network connectivity, transmission range and frequent changes, due to users and/or devices mobility, Internet-oriented wireless applications face challenges in terms of computation and interaction. These challenges elaborate with the inevitable demand for such applications to adapt to users' situations, their profiles, and the resources provided by the operating environment. Taking into account contextual information is an essential ingredient to cope with the frequent changes in mobile environments and hence provide adequate solutions for achieving adaptability, reliability, and seamless service provisioning. This paper introduces the use of policies over semantically modeled context as a technique for generating implicit context information and making use of context in mobile computing in general and internet-computing in specific. A context-sensitive instant messaging application demonstrates our proposed model using agent technology.

This paper presents an innovative integrated visual approach for indexing music and automatically composing personalized playlists for radios or chain stores. To efficiently index hundreds of music titles by hand with artistic descriptors, the user only needs to drag and drop them onto a dynamic music landscape. To help the user we propose different dynamic visualization tools, such as the semantic spectrum and semantic field lenses. An algorithm then propagates artistic values that are hidden in the landscape into the titles being indexed. Different propagation algorithms are tested and compared. The dynamic composition methodology is then described with its class n-gram algorithm and its means for personalization based on the same music map as the visual indexing method. The new tools and techniques presented in this paper enable us to turn musical experience into an integrated visual experience that may generate new music knowledge and emotion.
