This paper describes two protocols for the secure download of content protection software to mobile devices. The protocols apply concepts from trusted computing to demonstrate that a platform is in a sufficiently trustworthy state before any application or associated keys are securely downloaded. The protocols are designed to allow mobile devices to receive broadcast content protected by proprietary conditional access applications. They may also be applied in the general case where demonstration of a secure execution environment is required before an application is downloaded.

This paper focuses on metadata-based, multimedia resource representation and retrieval in a P2P environment as a means of universal multimedia access (UMA). The primary focus of the work is a P2P architecture, which uses MPEG-21 as standards based technique to dynamically adapt resources to various usage environments. In the architecture, a super peer based approach is used to cluster peers, store peer information, perform searches and instruct peers to adapt/send resources. Also a two-stages based adaptation method is introduced to adapt search results and resources in an intelligent manner based on the usage environment attributes. The concept is demonstrated using a test-bed built based on the JXTA peer-to-peer framework. In addition, simulation results show that the proposed architecture reduces download time while increasing resource availabilities and download speed in the network when compared to traditional P2P systems.

Summary form only given. In this paper we present a call admission control (CAC) policy for multimedia services that characterize the next generation of wireless cellular networks. The well-known CAC guard-channel policy is modified to maintain a pre-specified level of quality of services for multimedia calls. A semi-Markov decision process (SMDP) is used to represent the multi-class guard channel CAC policy with constraints on the dropping probabilities of multimedia handoff calls. The SMDP is formulated as a linear programming problem with the objectives of maximizing the system utilization and guaranteeing QoS of multiple classes of handoff calls with each class having particularly different QoS requirements. We show numerically that the multi-class guard channel policy deploying SMDP outperforms the existing upper-limit CAC policy as it improves the service quality by maximizing the bandwidth utilization while stratifying the quality of service constraint to upper bound of the handoff dropping probability.

In this paper, we have developed a new educational system that more easier understanding basic concept than current contents, for biomedical engineering who study microcontrollers or microprocessors that is found in modern medical equipment. The developed tutoring system utilized multimedia contents and reduced a great disparity of education quality. It also provides movie clips, graphic animation, narrations, which contains graphic and text document. Movie clips were produced by using Win Cam (Mirion Systems), and graphic animation were implemented by using FLASH MX software (Macromedia Inc.) and Action Script, GIF graphic files and Power Point Techniques. This tutoring system includes the basic concept of microcontroller-based system, entire execution process for the each instruction of the instruction set, development of small-sized programs, understanding of operations, control of built-in peripherals and design techniques of simple application programs.

In this paper, we propose the method of application level multicast for delivering real-time streaming video over Internet, and realized with a prototype of multiparty videoconference system - Metrino. Different from conventional wisdom to use simple source-specific trees or shared overlay, we construct a bone share tree with key nodes, and added additional minor nodes to nearest node as source-specific tree when new endpoints joined in, the whole video streaming delivery graph construct a sunflower delivery graph (SDG). SDG can keep some level of efficiency while avoid the tree reorganization frequently. More over, Metrino is able to deal with difference scale of end users from several to hundreds due to its scalable architecture.

The main contribution of this paper is the design and implementation of Archies, a generic and open end-to-end architecture for adaptive streaming of live MPEG-4 video over last hop wireless networks. The distinguishing features of our architecture include support for end-to-end source rate adaptation, feedback control from the client and end-to-end packet loss differentiation. We also present a prototype implementation of Archies and evaluate its performance over a real network testbed. Archies serve as a generic and open end-to-end video streaming architecture and experimental real network testbed that provides an excellent platform to the research community to develop, evaluate and compare various algorithms for adaptive video streaming over wireless networks. The components of the architecture are designed to be lightweight and modular that could be easily extended and evolved in the future with better algorithms for video compression and source rate adaptation.

With the fast development of technology and science, there come various changes and demands in consumer service market. The plan integrating "broadband network" with "application service" is potential and farsighted in network industry. Academic and technological institutes start researching and promoting the MOD (multimedia on demand) system, which transits multimedia information and provides users interactive interface via setop-box in broadband network. Implement cost, learning content and user behaviors might be taken into account when constructing MOD system. Besides, how to increase the MOD's capability of interaction and portability is a practical issue. Sharing and participating are of great importance for network users. This paper first proposes a digital content platform, which combines peer-to-peer (P2P) technology and sharable content object reference model (SCORM). Such a mechanism makes it possible for content providers to share versatile multimedia information with others in digital channel. Followed by a description of file sharing methods in P2P framework. Then, we advocate incremental k-nearest-neighbor (k-NN) algorithm analyzing SCORM metadata and user access records to improve system load, content feature classification efficiency, file index distribution and user query-feedback speed.

As demands for streaming video and audio over the Internet gains more and more popularity, proper caching of multimedia streams has become increasingly important. Previous researches on caching proxy have not addressed the problem of single stream image and stream network prefetch. In this paper, we discuss principles and mechanism of SSI in detail. Specifically, we give corresponding modification algorithms for receiving and sending streaming data in the caching proxy. After analyzing of different scenarios of stream network prefetch, we present a theoretical model of stream network prefetch. According to this model, we propose an effective stream network prefetch policy based on RTCP packets feedback and RTP packets network delay. Testing results show that our proposed mechanisms are valid and effective.
