Every year in January, researchers working on consumer communications and networking come together for the IEEE Consumer Communications and networkingconference in Las Vegas. Major themes of the conference are Emerging Consumer Technologies and Applications, Peer-to-Peer networking and Content Distribution, Security and Content Protection, multimedia and Entertainment networking and Services, Smart Spaces and Personal Area Networks, and Wireless Consumer Communications and networking. Each of these themes forms a separate track in the conference program. In addition, the conference is host to a series of Special Sessions and Workshops as well as prototype demonstrations. A critical aspect of applications with wireless sensor networks is network lifetime. Sensing and communications consume energy particularly in wireless multimedia sensor networks (WMSN) due to huge amount of data generated by the multimedia sensors. Therefore, judicious power management and sensor scheduling can effectively extend network lifetime. In this paper we consider the problem of scheduling multimedia sensor activities to maximize network lifetime. The environment is divided in domains monitored by clusters of multimedia sensor nodes. Network lifetime increment is achieved by cooperation between multimedia sensors in two priority-based ways: Intra-cluster cooperation and Inter-cluster cooperation. We will see that the lifetime of cluster nodes is considerably increased under the proposed node selection and scheduling procedures. As for big clusters, the lifetime even is prolonged to 5.5 times with respect to the ordinary un-cooperative node awakening.

As mobile multimedia services have significantly evolved and diversified with the spread of smartphones and Internet of Things (IoT) devices, low-delay multimedia cloud computing is the need of the hour. To address this demand, in this study, we introduce an edge cloud system that equips a multimedia service function chaining capability. A prototype implementation of the proposed edge cloud system has three main features: 1) edge computing deployment by using OpenStack, 2) multimedia service slicing and chaining, and 3) efficient resource management in edge networks. Based on these features, the proposed system achieves lower multimedia processing delay compared to a conventional cloud computing platform. We deploy the proposed system in our laboratory and validate the system performance by using typical multimedia application, such as human detection in video surveillance.

The increasing usage of cloud computing, along with the proliferation of mobile devices and the demand for multimedia services, are changing the life style of users and creating new opportunities to providers and clients. multimedia data will account for up to 90% of all Internet traffic in a few years, where most of the content will be created, shared, and accessed by mobile smartphones/tablets (carried by humans or placed in vehicles). However, this novel mobile multimedia era imposes new challenges for the networks, content, terminals, and humans, and must overcome problems associated, for instance, with high congestion, low scalability, fast battery consumption, and poor user experience. This paper discusses recent advances and challenges in human-centric mobile multimedia cloud computing approaches. On the one hand, Internet cloud will ubiquitously enrich multimedia mobile environments with more advanced and powerful features, including high processing and memory, scalability, availability, and adaptability. On the other hand, mobile devices will efficiently cooperate with each other to form mobile clouds that offload the Internet clouds from tasks that the latter cannot perform in a timely or efficient manner, including video and resource sharing. Both Internet and mobile clouds will be efficiently used to adapt/optimize multimedia flows to a single user or a group of users according to the current network conditions, context-awareness, content characteristics, device capabilities, and human experience.

In this paper, we describe and analyze several existing virtualization of TPM (vTPM) designs: software-based vTPM, hardware-based vTPM, para-virtualized TPM and property-based vTPM and analyze each of their limitations. We believe this to be an useful exercise to help better understand and apply the technology of virtualization of TPM in real cloud computing systems.

Future trends for University distance learning systems involve integration of the mobile devices with the support of cloud computing services. The multimedia content that is delivered to the student's mobile devices provides an efficient learning environment. The main benefit, elaborated in this paper, is to use the processing power of the mobile cloud computing (MCC) environment for adapting the multimedia content to the context - aware network conditions of the mobile user. In this paper we also improve the QoE (Quality of Experience) metrics as a multi-dimensional construct of user perceptions and behaviors that is in direct relation to the QoL (Quality of Learning) in the process of distance learning.
