We evaluate traffic scheduling and QoS via a simulation model for wireless multimedia applications. This model utilizes a scheduling mechanism for performance assessment for different users carrying different applications. The scheduling mechanism is verified via simulations with a variety traffic characteristics and performance metrics. A toolbox for the model has been developed in MATLAB environment, where a traffic scheduler is implemented. The purpose of developing this model is to case and generalise the concept of multimedia traffic scheduling so that it can be extended to simulate real applications, where a new set of QoS parameters may be defined.

The development of economics and the globalization of trade make cross-region communication increasingly frequent. Traditional communication methods, such as telephone, fax and Email can not satisfy people's daily demands. multimediaconference system supports people in different places share audio, video and documents to achieve real-time communication. Nowadays, multimediaconference system is mostly accessed via conference television and SIP terminal but lacks mobility support. In this paper, we design and implement a Symbian-based multimediaconference mobile terminal application with which 3G users can enjoy real-time and high-quality conference experience.

The wireless multimedia data services over HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Share) is still limited in traditional point to point type. Wireless resource is precious, but the income per bit from data services is much less than traditional voice. It becomes a bottleneck of wireless multimedia data services day by day. We attempt to analysis Shapley Nucleolus's super allocation based on Nash-Harsanyi model, through minimum ratio and non separable gap (NSCG) methods, establish multi dimension related targets of three typical wireless multimedia data services. At last the share mechanism over HSDPA is preliminary established. The simulation result is optimistic.

During the last decade, new mobile multimedia applications have emerged for mobile and network multimedia, wireless multimedia communication, audio/video teleconferencing, remote assistance, digital storage systems, secure audio transmission and so on. In order to meet these requirements, tremendous research efforts have been put in the development of efficient digital audio coding technologies. In China, AVS-M audio standard is such an audio technology targeting for mobile multimedia applications which is developed and owned by China Audio and Video Coding Standard Workgroup. In this paper, AVS-M audio standard is discussed by revealing the technical principles of the en- and decoding, the standardization situation and the suitability of the codec in relation to technology available, economical feasibility and the market needs. Finally it concludes with a brief discussion of future research directions.

People and organizations around the globe are using multimedia applications to communicate. By evolving their networks, network operators are taking advantage of the convergence of voice and data. QoS metrics are usually based on parameters from the user side or network side. In this context, NFV and SDN can improve the communication experience and offers an abstraction layer to the deployment of flexible multimedia applications provided on the cloud. In this work, we propose an approach to mitigate globally manage network and computing resources for multimedia applications. To this end, we come up with a control plane entity capable of orchestrating compute and network resources for the multimedia application scenario, relying on SIP control messages. Our solution brings QoS enhancement to the user through resiliency, load balancing, packet inspection, scaling on demand and the separation of control and data planes.

Supporting multimedia applications over mobile ad hoc networks is a challenging issue. This paper proposes a Position-based Multipath Routing Protocol (PMRP) for real-time multimedia streaming in mobile ad hoc networks. We present an alternative path selection strategy to alleviate packet loss when primary route breaks. On the other hand, two different flood schemes are deployed in the process of route establishment, used for both multimedia traffic and other traffic. The purpose is to lower the overall route overhead. multimedia traffic is assigned a high priority to find multiple paths, while non-multimedia traffic uses unipath. Our simulation results demonstrate that the PMRP improves the performance of multimedia streaming significantly, in terms of the decodable frames ratio, average frame delay, delay jitter, normalized packet load, route overhead, etc.

Mobile Cloud computing (MCC) is an integration of cloud computing in the mobile environment, which is used to improve the overall performance of the mobile devices. The rapid growth of cloud computing and mobile Internet services has triggered the emergence of mobile cloud services. Among many challenges, QoS management is one of the crucial issues for mobile cloud services. Here the survey of the current research related to QoS provision in mobile cloud computing is presented. The provision of QoS in mobile cloud computing is a challenging task. This is because of the dynamic characteristics of mobile networks and limited resources of mobile devices such as bandwidth, delay, packet loss ratio, battery life, storage capacity, computational power, security, etc. Also we present a cloud aware multimedia, which addresses how multimedia services and applications, such as storage and sharing, authoring and mashup, adaptation and delivery, and rendering and retrieval, can optimally utilize cloud-computing resources to achieve better quality of experience (QoE). The traffic of Lviv Polytechnic enterprise network have been analyzed. Simulation model processing of traffic in queues heterogeneity network on the basis of services priorities has been developed.

The convergence of emerging real-time multimedia services, the increasing coverage of wireless networks and the ever-growing popularity of mobile devices, are leading to an era of user-centric multimedia wireless services. In this scenario, heterogeneous communications will co-exist and ensure that the end-user is always best connected. However, the Quality of Experience (QoE) support for emerging video applications in multi-operator environments remains a significant challenge and is crucial for the success of wireless multimedia systems. This paper presents a Quality of Experience Handover Architecture for Converged Heterogeneous Wireless Networks, called QoEHand. QoEHand allows users of multimedia content to be always best connected in IEEE 802.11e and IEEE 802.16e environments. Simulation results show the impact and benefit of the proposed solution in multi-access and multi-operator wireless scenarios by using objective and subjective QoE metrics.

Technological advances in networking and storage are revolutionizing computers so as to support digital multimedia. In this paper, we present a video conferencing system that can form the basis for supporting most video interactions and services in distributed computing systems. We present powerful paradigms for collaboration such as conferences using multiple channels of video and audio, hierarchically and non-hierarchically related conferences, and develop a model and software architecture for supporting these paradigms in multimedia computer systems. We describe a implementation of the architecture based on a general event-driven message exchange mechanism, and investigate the resulting issues of control synchronization among agents. We have developed a video file server that is integrated with the conferencing architecture to provide storage and retrieval of full-motion video information within conferences. The conferencing and file systems are integrated at the agent-server level (above the operating systems, but below the user interface). The performance of the system, which has been in operation for several months, is highly satisfactory, showing the feasibility of adding a video dimension to high-performance computing.

Content-centric networking has been recently proposed to define a new networking architecture where the content itself becomes the core of communications rather than the address or location. In terms of availability and efficient delivery of data, content-centric networking has been the main focus to a great extent. Currently, the content-centric networking architecture for the wireless environment is not yet clearly defined. In this paper, we propose a possible architecture for multimedia content delivery in the wireless environment, which is based on content-centric networking. We also present simulation results to show that the proposed architecture works well in the wireless network.
