It has been a crucial task to provide and maintain an acceptable level of Quality of Service (QoS) for delivering multimedia services over Internet. Different media types are being impacted by resource limitation and various management policies in different ways. For instance, while audio services ask for a path with minimum communication latency, video streams should be routed over network links with high capacity. However, in today's networks, communication flows that are directed towards the same destination follow the same network link which may result in inefficient resource utilisation and effectively degrading the overall QoS in the network. This paper proposes a fuzzy logic approach in which path's QoS measurements (e.g. packet loss rate or link delay) are received as input parameters and path weights are determined for all communication paths between a source and destination. Such an approach can be beneficial for Software Defined networking (SDN) in which a control plane orchestrates setting up the communication paths between end-users. In our proposed Fuzzy Logic Enabled-SDN (FLE-SDN) approach, the SDN controller periodically collects the QoS measurements and dynamically routes service flows (e.g. audio, video and data) to the most suitable paths in order to fulfill the QoS requirements of specific service flows. We have used MATLAB to analyse the performance of the proposed (FLE-SDN) approach. Our preliminary obtained results show that our proposed fuzzy logic control system can assist SDN controllers to better determine a communication path for a specific service flow and thus, offering better QoS. © 2018 IEEE.

Multitenancy is the biggest advantage of computing, where physical resources are shared among multiple clients. Virtualization facilitates multitenancy with the help of the hypervisor. Cloud providers virtualize the resources like CPU, network interfaces, peripherals, hard drives, and memory using hypervisor. In a virtualization environment, many virtual machines (VMs) can run on the same core with the help of the hypervisor by sharing the resources. The virtual machines (VMs) running on the same core are the target for the malicious or abnormal attacks like side-channel attacks. Cache-based attack in the cloud is one of the side-channel attacks. Cache is one of the resources shared among different VMs on the same core. The attacker can make use cache behavior and can perform the cache-based side-channel attack on the victim. In this paper, we explore different types of cache designs, categories of cache-based side-channel attacks and existing detection and mitigation techniques for cache-based side-channel attacks.

Preventing multimedia data in cloud environment from leakage is a significant and imperative issue in the modern information-oriented society. Many encryption schemes have been proposed to convert original images into noise-like images. However, the noise-like images are conspicuous visual signs to attract the attention of attackers, and thus lead to large quantities of attacks. In order to solve the problem, this paper propose a visual encryption scheme to convert an original image into another visually meaningful image to elude the attacker's attention and ensure the security of the image. Image data security is implemented by pre-encryption procedure and the meaningful appearance of encrypted image is based on Least significant bit (LSB) substitution, respectively. The experimental results demonstrate the superiority of the proposed scheme in terms of excellent encryption performance. The proposed scheme can protect original images that require a higher level of security compared with existing encryption schemes.

The variety and complexity of current Internet traffic has challenge the Internet Service Providers in providing quality service to the subscribers. Traffic classifications are devised in order to efficiently manage the traffic according to the demand and available resources. In contrast to traditional network, Software Defined networking (SDN) has a centralized controller in which traffic classifier can take advantage. This paper has identified the state-of-the-art inventions that have been granted patents in the field of network traffic classification, both in traditional network and SDN. The implementation of traffic classification need to adapt; as more traditional network is migrating to SDN. Therefore, the limitation of the current traffic classification has been investigated in order to suggest for its future direction.

In recent years, cloud computing is a trend in the networking industry. Storing data in the cloud can alleviate the storage overhead and reduce the expense of both hardware and software for the individuals. However, until now, the users still cannot trust the cloud server completely, and hence the data is usually encrypted before them being sent to the cloud to ensure the data security. However, most of the keyword search approaches in cloud only support the exact keyword search and it is unpractical in reality. Further, keyword searching for encrypted data is also not easy. With the growth of the dataset in the cloud, for the users, to search the specific data by keyword search method becomes an important issue now. Compared to previous work, this paper proposes an efficient multi-keyword search with polynomial functions for encrypted data. Furthermore, it is also capable of searching the fuzzy word.

Vehicular networking is an enabling technology that promises a huge advancement in the field of Intelligent Transport System (ITS)and mobile networks. Vehicular Ad hoc NetworK (VANET) is emerging quickly as a new architecture that is based on V2X communications. Vehicles are equipped with Electronic Control Units (ECUs) which are interconnected via various intra-vehicle networks (e.g., LIN, CAN, Ethernet, MOST, and FlexRay). Accordingly, a communication gateway is required to facilitate interfacing between the different vehicular environment components. To the best of our knowledge, contributions in this area are very limited. In this context, this paper proposes a new In-car gateway architecture for the Intra and Inter vehicular networks in order to perform the required specifications for V2X communications. © 2018 IEEE.

Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) is a popular form of cloud computing that provides virtualized computing resources. The current trend of IaaS is moving from virtual machine-based into container-based. In this paper, we study the energy-efficient resource allocation problem for container-based virtualization in a data center. Our goal is to minimize the energy consumption by determining 1) the number of cores allocated to a container, 2) the operating frequency of the container, and 3) the deployment of the container to server. Every container has to meet its service level agreement (SLA). We propose dynamic programming algorithms that can be used under different scenarios, depending on the affordable time complexity. The performance of the proposed algorithms is evaluated with energy consumption data collected from experiments.

Mobility support has become one of the critical issues in the Content-Centric networking (CCN) to meet the needs that a significant amount of multimedia data is transmitted over mobile devices. Many related research approaches, such as Tunnel-CCN, NamedPool-CCN, and Proxy-CCN, are presented to resolve such an issue. The performance improvements are limited by the rendezvous points to rebuild routing information. To address this incremental deployment problem, we propose POPM-CCN, a destination nodes selection, and concurrent content push scheme, with a popularity prediction oriented cache strategy with least squares method. The most popular contents are pushed to the appropriate nodes. Consequently, the same contents can in parallel be obtained from different intermediate nodes, thus reducing the transmission pressure of the content providers. We have simulated the handover procedures of the various proposals. The results show that the transmission delay and interest message loss ratio are efficiently reduced by 10%, while cache hit rate of contents acquires more than 20% promotion.

Diversified research focusing on early prediction of diseases based on small datasets and/or reducing the execution time on computer was published. However, no convincing evidence was showed that the conventional wrapper based feature selection was applicable for processing large-scale high-dimension dataset in an efficient way. In this study, our wrapper based feature selection method is designed to apply to a large-scale dataset with high dimension and long longitudinal breadth for predicting two types of metabolic syndrome diseases. Specifically, according to the components, the method adopts dimensionality reduction and/or feature selection to optimize subsets of features. Subsequently, the selected features will be further identified with statistics provided by clinic experts to exam the significance and accuracy. Accordingly, the method provides a sufficient mean for early diagnosis of metabolic diseases and achieves the efficiency by reducing notable computational time.
