In this paper we propose a mechanism of an adaptive multimedia stream service that can support continuous data transmissions in mobile computing environment. This mechanism contains an effective buffeting method, an intelligent filtering and QoS negotiation method, and a playout control method to provide seamless playback of multimedia streams. To implement the mechanisms in the mobile computing environment, we take the concept of proxy It is located in the intermediate place between Two communication endpoints and it plays the role of an agent of the mobile hosts. The proxy uses the buffering method to keep constant transmission rates using feedback so that it can provide an adaptive stream service to the network. If needed, the proxy may transform the streams by applying filters to make mobile hosts' environments more optimal. And it does QoS negotiation with mobile hosts if the network bandwidth cannot support required QoS or if the environment of mobile host was changed.

3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE) network system provides higher data rate and lower delay with improved coverage and spectrum efficiency for the wireless communications which leads to more creative services emerging, especially the multimedia services. 3GPP introduced the specification of IMS (IP multimedia Subsystem) which allows for cost efficient and flexible provision of enriched multimedia services over IP networks. In addition to building network environment for the multimedia service deployment, MBMS is proposed as the broadcast/multicast delivery technology. Up to now the controlling IMS and MBMS are separated subsystems. In this paper, we combine these two systems into an integrated network architecture which enables multimedia services to be deployed using MBMS specifications over IMS core network regarding the long-term vision of the 3GPP SAE/LTE architecture. Finally, the required signaling flow of some typical video services is depicted.

The Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP) which provides multihoming at transport layer has been extended recently for multimedia streaming and vertical handover. However, failure recover control is still in design to meet real-time multimedia services. In this paper, we investigate experimentally the performance of SCTP's failover and fail-recover relying on an open source platform. The result shows that in stream transporting by lksctp module, the failover completed time distributes within 63 to 70 seconds, and the fail-recover with 0 to 25 seconds. It is also found that fail-recover time is strongly correlated with SCTP Heartbeat events.

This paper proposes a novel Dynamic Priority Time-Threshold-based Queuing bandwidth allocation Scheme for multimedia services (DPTTQM) in cellular networks. Because future data service will occupy a large portion of all services in next generation mobile networks, there is much significance in improving non-prioritized handoff data call dropping probability of Finite Queuing Adaptive Time-Threshold-based bandwidth allocation Scheme for multimedia services (FQATTSM) further. The proposed scheme modifies priority definition and bandwidth allocation of FQATTSM and then, uses a dynamic probabilistic priority policy for QoS guarantee of voice service. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme enormously improves performance of non-prioritized handoff data dropping probability and obviously reduces the average queuing delay of non-prioritized handoff data calls compared with FQATTSM.

Smart mobile devices are already used for everyday communication between people. They have become ubiquitous devices for receiving and sharing important information, but they poses limited capability of storing and processing multimedia content. Considering that mobile devices will always have these mentioned limitations, the proposed solution is to use collaborative, adaptive multimedia content delivery and the cloud computing technology. In order to gain increased perception of quality of m-learning systems, the proposed model delivers three services for selection, transcoding and authoring multimedia content, which should be hosted by SaaS cloud computing model. The proposed model for collaborative and adaptive multimedia content delivery will provide the mobile learners with cloud-based services. These services will facilitate the delivery of the preferred multimedia content across heterogeneous network to various types of mobile devices that learners are using. The advantage of the proposed framework is proved by using a sample mobile application for our case study, which estimates the operation of the service for multimedia content selection and authoring service.

Present day requirements of high quality audio and video surveillance has instigated research interests in wireless multimedia sensor networks (WMSN). In order for the WMSN to achieve trademark performance in audio and video surveillance applications, certain design requirements must be met. In this work, we identify vital design issues affecting diversity gain in conditions especially, where channel fading characteristics fluctuate rapidly. We apply the cooperative communication technique in WMSN to create a framework that optimizes diversity gain in an environment where channel state information (CSI) is unknown. We then discuss promising research directions for optimizing diversity gain and non-coherent communication efficiency in cooperative WMSN.

The special scenario of the topology in the hybrid multimedia Ad Hoc networks was analyzed and a novel cross layer Biomimetic Pattern Recognition (BPR) algorithm based on Neural Fuzzy Connection Admission Controller (NFCAC) was proposed The novel algorithm integrated the attributes both of NFCAC and the topology space in special scenario. The topology and the power consumption of each node can all be optimized due to the minimum link occupation with the help of the algorithm. Simulation results shown that the novel algorithm can give more BPR guarantee to the networks in the variable node loads and transmitting powers, and make the node more stable to support multi-hops of the same time.
