Mobile devices have become increasingly prevalent in recent years, leading the public to reassess their expectations in terms of user experience. As a result, industry has progressively turned to utilizing hardware components, such as GPUs (graphics processing units), which are traditionally present on computers. Despite their sophistication, mobile devices lack the capacity to execute resource-intensive tasks quickly and efficiently, and the state of the art is to leverage heterogeneous cloud resources to augment mobile devices. However, network transfer costs drastically limit the advantage of this approach. While performing computing tasks on a heterogeneous system is a well-studied area, how to offload workload onto a heterogeneous cloud in the presence of an unstable network remains an outstanding problem. This paper presents the design and implementation of a workload offloading framework that transparently mitigates the network transfer cost and takes advantage of a heterogeneous resource-rich cloud for speeding up mobile devices' GPGPU computations. Our approach is based on an adaptive method that partitions the workload and maps the processing elements to heterogeneous local and remote resources. By partitioning the tasks, our system increases the utilization of mobile and server resources while reducing the amount of data to transfer over the network. Our results show that adaptive partitioning can have a significant impact on the performance of benchmarks, even in a dynamic environment.
Even avid users of mobile applications turn a blind eye to privacy settings. Still mobile applications remain the key means by which users share sensitive personal information. It is unclear if users just do not care,...

In the late three decades, grid computing has emerged as a new field providing a high computing performance to solve larger scale computational demands. Because Directed Acyclic Graph (DAG) application scheduling in a distributed environment is a NP-Complete problem, meta-heuristics are introduced to solve this issue. In this paper, we propose to hybridize two well-known heuristics. The first one is the Heterogeneous Earliest Finish Time (HEFT) heuristic which determines a static scheduling for a DAG in a heterogeneous environment. The second one is Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) which is a stochastic meta-heuristic used to solve optimization problems. This hybridization aims to minimize the makespan (i.e., overall completion time) of all the tasks within the DAG. The experimental results that have been conducted under hybridization show that this approach improves the scheduling in terms of completion time compared to existing algorithms such as HEFT.

In the paper, the graph- and cloud-based tools being under development at Institute of Informatics Systems in Novosibirsk for supporting of computer science education are presented. The Web-systems Wiki GRAPP and WEGA intended to help in teaching and research in graph theory, graph algorithms and their applications to computer science are described. The visual systems Higres and Visual Graph for graphs and graph algorithms are presented. The cloud system CSS aimed at supporting of functional and parallel programming is considered.

Situated crowdsourcing has emerged to overcome the limitations of online and mobile crowdsourcing to allow people to perform a task by embedding an interface in a physical space. However, crowdsourcing for non-profits is a challenge in situated crowdsourcing platform. My dissertation investigates whether micro-volunteering can be applied successfully to a situated crowdsourcing platform for contributing problem-solving efforts with high-quality results.

CAPE - which stands for Checkpointing Aided Parallel Execution - has demonstrated to be a high-performance and compliant OpenMP implementation for distributed memory systems. CAPE is based on the use of checkpoints to automatically distribute jobs of OpenMP parallel constructs to distant machines and to automatically collect the calculated results on these machines to the master machine. However, on the current version, the data exchange on networks use manual sockets that require time to establish connections between machines for each parallel construct. Furthermore, this technique is not really reliable due to the risk of conflicts on ports and the problem of data exchange using stream. This paper aims at presenting the impact of using MPI to improve the reliability and the performance of CAPE. Both socket and MPI implementations are analyzed and discussed, and performance evaluations are provided.

In this paper, online human life summarization is performed, based on multimedia content, published on social media. The life summaries are also automatically annotated with events, persons, places etc. Towards this direction, initially a content preparation module is activated that includes an intelligent wrapper. The content preparation module scans social networks, extracts their pages and segments them into tokens, in an unsupervised way. Next multimedia content is kept and it is associated to its respective metadata. In the following step, a novel ranking mechanism puts multimedia content in order of importance based on usercontent interactions. Finally the event-complementing summarization module produces a meaningful annotated video clip, based on a spectral visual clustering technique and the innovative Social Latent Semantic Analysis algorithm. Experimental results illustrate the promising performance of the proposed architecture and set some foundations for future research.

Considered as a rich source of information, social networking sites have been created lot of buzz because people share and discuss their opinions freely. Sentiment analysis is used for knowing voice or response of crowd for products, services, organizations, individuals, events, etc. Due to their importance, people opinions are analyzed in several domains including information retrieval, semantic web, text mining. These researches define new classification techniques to assign positive or negative opinion. Decisional systems like WeBhouse, known by their data-consuming must be enriched by this kind of pertinent opinions to give better help to decision makers. Nevertheless, cleaning and transformation processes recognized by several approaches as a key of WeBhouse development, don't deal with sentiment analysis. To fulfill this gap, we propose a new analysis algorithm which determines user's sentiment score of a post shared on the social network Facebook. This algorithm analyzes user's opinion depending on opinion terms and emoticons included in his comments. This algorithm is integrated in transformation process of ETL approach.
