Smart health systems such as networked activity trackers, scales, or sports watches allow monitoring many aspects of a healthy lifestyle. Nevertheless there is a semantic gap between these systems' measurements and the users' personal health action plan that is not bridged by existing health data aggregators. We describe representative types of health data as measured today and suggest a simple classification of data based on temporality of the data. We present a mapping of physical devices to health action plans that is device-agnostic and bridges this semantic gap. A key concept is the mapping of logical devices to primary health features that translates measurements to a meaningful health concept. We describe a prototype system implementing our mapping and providing lessons learned. The approach shows to be feasible to describe typical personal health action plans.

Handover algorithms typically operate by assigning preconfigured threshold or weight values onto network performance metrics such as delay, data loss and signal strength. Such approaches are performance limited as they do not consider external factors that affect the network such as the physical environment and current weather conditions. Previous research illustrates that foliage density combined with detrimental weather conditions can have degrading effects on wireless links. The changes to these environmental factors over long vehicular-based mobile user sessions can lead to sub-optimal handover decisions and a negative impact on a user's Quality of Experience during mobile video streaming. There is need for a handover approach that adapts to these factors and mitigates any negative effects that occur. This paper proposes a method for Environmental factor Mitigation on multimedia StreamIng Networks (EMULSIoN). EMULSIoN uses a perceptron artificial neural network approach to mitigate the latency and delays caused by environmental factors. Using dynamic network performance metrics and with known topographical data, the EMULSIoN directed learning approach can learn from previous user sessions to mitigate these environmental effects. EMULSIoN further uses GPS and topographical data to divide vehicular routes into small sub-areas for optimal performance in varied terrain. Results illustrate that EMULSIoN has significant video quality improvements in comparison to pre-configured weight handover strategies.

Mobile Peer-to-Peer architectures provide object and service lookup functionality in absence of a preexisting communication infrastructure. Therefore, those architectures can be harnessed in several application scenarios like disaster relief scenarios where no infrastructure can be assumed and mobility is required. Yet, Mobile Peer-to-Peer architectures inherit the vulnerability to routing attacks from the underlying communication technologies. Further, even though many security mechanisms were developed for traditional Peer-to-Peer architectures, those mechanisms cannot be applied without adaptations to Mobile Peer-to-Peer architectures due to the wireless, mobile underlay network. In this paper, we analyze the vulnerability of the overlays routing algorithm of structured, location aware Mobile Peer-to-Peer architectures against a prominent routing attack. Therefore, we discuss and analyze existing security mechanisms that were developed to ensure a reliable routing process of these architectures. Moreover, we validate and adapt analytic models for the routing algorithm and those previously mentioned security mechanisms.

This paper presents SpaceViz, an information visualization tool designed for depicting hierarchies, such as directory structures. SpaceViz has scanned, map and manage PC, network and cloud storage of multimedia data. Classical, space-filling squarified techniques are used as methodology, but differ from Tree-map single view in that it employs multiple views in two-dimensional space, which is used to more clearly the structural relationships of data from colour code and pattern based hierarchy. The paper includes an empirical study comparing SpaceViz and Tree-map. The study shows the participants perform significantly better to interact with multiple file formats using SpaceViz.

In this paper, we present a dynamic and adaptive polyhedron topology-aware Grid load balancing method which we called TunGrid. Its main objective is the extreme decentralization of the scheduling and the load balancing processes at the lowest processing and networking cost. It ensures load balancing through an adaptive local neighborhood propagation strategy of overload. TunGrid was experimented using the GridSim simulator and compared to other methods. This installation showcases an office desk, an imaginary wonderland, where a group of diligent kitties live happily and work industriously to make artifacts react to users' eye gaze. Kitties are shy about being seen, but determined to keep everything in the wonderland moving after they hide behind. The desk environment consists of two paper objects augmented by video projections and two devices with digital displays as well as other office stationaries. One desktop eye tracker was carefully setup in order to track gaze in the 3D physical space. Users sit in front of the desk and work as a normal office worker while objects and devices behave in different ways upon the presence and absence of eye gaze of users.
