Many wall-size display systems are built to provide large-scale visualization. These systems may be quite successful for some limited applications, but are very inflexible, since these systems only have fixed display regions. This paper integrates steerable projectors whose beam can be moved under computer control onto a wall-size display system to strengthen its display ability. With the steerable projectors, the integrated display system, named Flexible Display, provide an extendable display region. This consists of a large-scale display region and several movable display regions, such that the integrated display system has great potential in the area of human-computer interaction and information visualization. This paper applies the Flexible Display to a virtual museum application to give the users fluent navigation experience. For the application, the Flexible Display provides the following functions: 1) intensity and resolution enhancement of sub-region of display wall, 2) information augmentation, and 3) "stepping user interfaces" for its viewers interacting with display wall.

Collaborative editing enables multiple users who reside remotely to share and edit some documents at the same time. It is fundamentally based on operational transformation which adjusts the position of operation according to the transformed execution order. For a last decade, many researches have been performed in this area and the correctness and possibility of operational transformation have been proved. Even though operational transformation gives us the possibility of collaborative editing, it has a limitation with a viewpoint of usability and efficiency. In other words, the existing operational transformation is devised without considering the properties of collaborative editing such as the frequency of operational transformation and human-centric viewpoint. In this paper, we would like to introduce view-centric operational transformation which considers the priority of transforming operation according to user's viewpoint. Using this way, we have tried to improve the existing operational transformation and provide more useful and efficient collaborative editing

This paper describes a mobile service middleware (the 4G middleware) , it is used for faster and more efficient development and runtime support of adaptive multimedia services in upcoming 4G environments. An open and standard OSGi technology based the 4G middleware provides an interoperable infrastructure for efficiently building, provisioning, and managing mobile multimedia services. For next generation heterogeneous networks, adaptability will become a main feature of next generation multimedia services

Summary form only given. National Science Foundation (NSF) has a long-standing interest in protecting, enhancing and evaluating information security, privacy and confidentiality in information systems. The interest is broad including new architectures, algorithms, data collection and evaluation methods. All these are in recognition of newly emerging environments and applications (e.g. pervasive computing, mobile, sensor and distributed databases, discovery and handling of future threats), newly emerging requirements and increasing public interest in this topic. This paper discusses NSF's past and current funding profile and future funding opportunities for secure information systems research

Due to the ubiquitous infrastructure of high-speed networks real-time streaming of audio and video becomes more and more important. Different kinds of network are present in home as well as automotive environments. These networks usually have particular end devices and use their own protocols and data formats. To make multimedia sources and sinks of one network also available to devices on another network gateways are required. This paper points out the functions such gateway has to provide with a focus on timing issues and describes the concept of a multimedia streaming gateway.

Service-oriented communication (SOC) is a new development in the industry to enable communication through Web services and SOA. SOC is to make communication as service and provide a service-oriented architecture to integrate communication in business applications. Recent advances of Web service and SOA have made it possible for a full Web service and SOA based communication paradigm over IP. This paper is an overview of the recent development in this area with a focus on key technologies that can be applied to Web service enablement of communication. In particular, we discuss the generic Web service based application session management based on WS-session, the two-way full duplex Web service interaction framework, and the development of Web service initiation protocol (WIP). WIP is a full Web service and SOA based communication protocol for multimedia and voice communication over IP. The generic Web service approach of WIP overcomes many limitations which would be otherwise difficult to achieve in non-Web service based communication methods used today. In addition, we discuss the service composition and orchestration framework based on WS-BPEL, and illustrate the application of this approach through some real use cases
