Mobile IP is a popular referenced mobile wireless protocol that provides the rules for mobile node to roam between networks. Although many researches have been proposed for mobile IP related development, the disruption network supporting time called handoff latency is still a challenging problem for roaming. In this paper, we state a link layer assisted fast handoff scheme using the alternative path (LLA-AP) approach to improve performance of roaming in the wireless mobile network. In the proposed LLA-AP scheme: (i) signal strength information, i.e., link layer (L2) information, is provided to measure the better path decision and (ii) multiple interfaces are equipped with each mobile node to switch to the better path in advance. For the performance analysis aspect, we also construct a practical testing environment to verify the effectiveness of our proposed LLA-AP scheme.

Advanced, large-scale applications targeted for the next generation Internet are motivating advances in scalable and adaptive highspeed networks and middleware. This paper provides a framework and middleware for heterogeneous distributed applications. And also describes how they have been applied successfully in practice to improve the reusability and quality of software system. An application written in one language is capable of playing media files and giving a request to an intermediate server, which is written in another language. The communications between these two different languages are established by converting the requesting application in to intermediate form. Therefore the converted application seems to be same language application as Intermediate Server. Finally the intermediate server, streams the requested media file to the client from the servers group which are under the control of the intermediate server.

The recent advances in wireless technologies and ubiquitous computing have driven an immense interest in mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs). However, the performance of MANETs is highly affected by the behaviour of its constituting nodes, which must cooperate in order to provide the basic networking functionality. We present a solution that detects and avoids misbehaving nodes which agree to route packets for other nodes and subsequently drop these packets. Such misbehaviour is of direct effect on quality of service (QoS) solutions, namely the QoS good put metric. The solution takes a transparent layered approach and assumes no security constraints. The solution was simulated using NS2. Experiments were done using multiple variations of mobile ad hoc environments, according to the hostility degree, mobility scenario and traffic load. The experimentation results show that the solution consistently detects and avoids misbehaving nodes leading to improved goodput by up to 25%

Localization research has focused on improving the accuracy of pinpointing the physical location of a target. We think that the energy efficiency and the quality of the localization services (QoLS) are equally important properties of localization systems. We refer to the QoLS as the timely supply of the location information to the applications. Energy efficiency and quality are seemingly two contradictive goals in terms of determining the rate of triggering the localization systems to perform the necessary computation and communication. In that, a lower location sampling rate contributes to a lower level of energy consumption but in the meantime compromises the timeliness of acquiring the location information. Opting for energy efficient and quality localization services, we propose a mobility-aware mechanism that adapts the sampling rate to the target mobility. Results from our simulations confirm that the adaptive sampling approach is promising and effective

Mobile IP (MIP) and mobile IP route optimization (MIP-RO) have been proposed to provide mobility management in the Internet. However, the MIP protocol suffers from triangular routing problem. MIP-RO adopts binding cache to avoid the triangular routing problem and provides smoother handoff. It is very difficult to enforce a binding cache upon each node in the entire Internet. Instead, we developed a more efficient handoff scheme, called mobile routing table (MRT) to enable the edge routers to take over the address binding. Nevertheless, we cannot demand all the edge routers to support MRT in the Internet. Therefore, this paper introduces five different schemes which relieve the limitation of the original MRT approach and cut down the triangular routing problem as much as possible. We analyze and compare both the standard MIP and the proposed approaches. The performance results are reported

As a result of the evolution of computer and networking technologies, the third generation partnership project (3GPP) has proposed the IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) as a key element in the UMTS architecture supporting multimedia services in the packet switched domain. Extending the IMS with support for location based services (LBS) enables enhanced services and offer new revenues to the system. Connecting the IMS core network with a real positioning system providing support for LBS is an open issue. This paper addresses this issue and presents the design and implementation of an IMS location server (ILS) connecting the IMS with a positioning system. From the IMS perspective, ILS serves as a service enabler for LBS in the mentioned subsystem. In order to demonstrate proof-of-concept in enhancing IMS-based services, a location-aware push-to-talk (LaPoC) prototype service has been developed. The service has been integrated with the Ericsson mobile positioning system (MPS). This paper also gives the results of performance measurements including traffic load analysis and session establishment time

As the Internet is widely used, high performance networks and systems prompts appearance of various applications and the appearance requests higher capacity resources. Recently, studies on grid are actively conducted to reorganize each computing resource, which used to be scattered for each application requesting these high capacity calculation resources, into a virtual high capacity resource by connecting to networks. The network needed in this grid environment has been progressed along with the WDM-base Lambda network that can build a high-bandwidth network for relatively low cost. This article presents two ways that improve network performance on grid environment. First way is approach to reorganize the existing network into L2/OPN (optical private network) by using Lambda networking to avoid traffic congestion. And second way is manage TCP windows buffer size to present a suitable TCP size for the grid environment

In this paper, we propose a service analysis framework for eliciting key service functionalities and core technologies when various future mobile service scenarios are given. The proposed analysis framework, called scenario based service analysis process (2SAP), consists of 4 sequential analysis steps, a scenario transformation, a scenario decomposition, an analysis of functions for each situation, and an elicitation of service functionalities. We then propose business model creation methodology consisting of four consecutive development processes, service elicitation, elicitation of participants, roles of participants and value distribution using analysis results of 2SAP approach. Finally, we propose three types of next generation mobile business models, direct management model, platform rental model, and brokerage model, based on roles and activities of participants.
