With the growing popularity of mobile devices (including phones and portable media players) and coverage of Internet access, we tend to develop the need of consuming video content on the move. Some technologies already allow end-users to watch TV and listen to news podcasts or download music videos on their devices. However, such services are restricted to a provider's selection of pre-formatted and linear content streams. Hence, we propose a web-based interface system that supports interactive contents navigation, making it possible for end-users to "surf" on video content like they are used to on the Web. This system is extensible to any specific domain of video contents, any web-enabled platform, and to any browsing scheme. In this paper, we will explain the architecture and design of this system, propose an application for soccer videos and present the results of its user evaluation.

The effective and efficient deployment of multimedia metadata along with the content is a critical shortcoming regarding multimedia applications on the Semantic Web. A large set of multimedia metadata formats have been used for years in diverse applications. The deployment of these formats in the context of the Semantic Web is, however, problematic since a framework allowing agents to directly access and process existing multimedia metadata descriptions is currently missing. In this paper, we propose a non-disruptive way of deploying multimedia metadata on the Web using RDFa along with a lightweight formalisation vocabulary.

Films are unquestionably a part of Cultural Heritage. Problems of current systems for accessing Cultural Heritage resources which deal with film objects include some of the following aspects: Distributed sources which store huge amounts of information;different formats of the contents ranging from traditional ones such as paper to advanced multimedia objects;and finally, and what is more crucial for the content providers, lack of systems which support currently the needs of the user such as enriched content, interaction with the information, usability, and exchange of experiences with other users. Taking into account these gaps detected by some European cities with a strong connection with the film sector, CINeSPACE a European research project aims at designing and implementing a mobile rich media collaborative information exchange platform, scalable, accessible through a wide variety of networks, and therefore, interoperable and Location-Based for the promotion of Film Heritage, going beyond the current state of the art. CINeSPACE enables users to interact with Location-Based multimediacontents while navigating a city. Audiovisual information will be delivered through a unique and portable low-cost wireless high definition near-to-the-eye display and audio phones. CINeSPACE will also comprise a small camera able to record or send what the user is "seeing". This information can be uploaded to a database through a WLAN hot spot or a 3G connection in order to create collaborative experiences with other end users. This paper presents the current status of development of the project.

Network intrusion detection systems, which protect high-speed networks, demand both high throughput and scalability to handle new threats. In this paper, we propose a scalable algorithm of multimatch packet classification for network intrusion detection to handle the potentially increasing filters resulted from new threats. The algorithm utilizes the previous idea, which categorizes filters based on distinct length combinations and corresponds each combination to one hash table. The classification procedure consists of d one-dimensional lookups and T hash accesses. We adopt ternary content addressable memory (TCAM) to accomplish the one-dimensional lookups. As compared to the existing schemes, the proposed scheme shows a better leverage between speed and storage performance.

We present a sophisticated approach for handling and processing presentations and multimediacontent in the classroom. The main contribution of our work is the way we technically control and display our models for multimedia based presentations: In contrast to existing approaches we avoid converting the file-based representation to a home-brew format which seems to be the easiest way for the processing and appliance of own features. Instead, we present the benefit of our layered solution that creates a model-based representation of any popular slide-based presentation format like PowerPoint and PDF and uses the original presentation systems that run in parallel to our own application, the universal presentation controller. Therefore, we can keep all hot features like integrated audios or videos, animations and slide transitions, notes and even native inking of the original presentation systems, but are also able to add our own extensions in general. We can communicate with other applications and offer them access to our model and core functionality. The models can be modified and extended online, which for example allows the integration of snapshots taken from a webcam.

The storage requirements in data-dominant signal processing systems, whose behavior is described by array-based, loop-organized algorithmic specifications, have an important impact on the overall energy consumption, data access latency, and chip area. Finding the optimal storage of the usually large arrays from these behavioral specifications is an important step during memory allocation. This paper proposes more efficient algorithms for the intra-array storage mapping models of De Greef [5] and Tron on [11], resulting in an implementation several time faster than the original ones.

Peer to peer (P2P) systems are traditionally designed to scale to a large number of nodes. However, we focus on scenarios where the sharing is effected only among neighbors. Localized sharing is particularly attractive in scenarios where wide area network connectivity is undesirable, expensive or unavailable. On the other hand, local neighbors may not offer the wide variety of objects possible in a much larger system. The goal of this paper is to investigate a P2P system that shares contents with its neighbors. We analyze the sharing behavior of Apple iTunes users in an University setting. iTunes restricts the sharing of audio and video objects to peers within the same LAN sub-network. We show that users are already making a significant amount of content available for local sharing. We show that these systems are not appropriate for applications that require access to a specific object. We argue that mechanisms that allow the user to specify classes of interesting objects are better suited for these systems. Mechanisms such as bloom filters can allow each peer to summarize the contents available in the neighborhood, reducing network search overhead. This research can form the basis for future storage systems that utilize the shared storage available in neighbors and build a probabilistic storage for local consumption.
In this paper, a zero-conf networking approach with open source code to multimedia service is developed and a self-managed multimedia service system is presented. The goal of zero-conf networking technique is to enabl...
