One of the applications of modern technology in telemedicine is video conferencing. An alternative to traveling to attend a conference or meeting, video conferencing is becoming increasingly popular among hospitals. By using this technology, doctors can help patients who are unable to physically visit hospitals. Video conferencing particularly benefits patients from rural areas, where good doctors are not always available. Telemedicine has proven to be a blessing to patients who have no access to the best treatment. A telemedicine system consists of customized hardware and software at two locations, namely, at the patient's and the doctor's end. In such cases, the video streams of the conferencing parties may contain highly sensitive information. Thus, real-time data security is one of the most important requirements when designing video conferencing systems. This study proposes a secure framework for video conferencing systems and a complete management solution for secure video conferencing groups. Java Media Framework Application Programming Interface classes are used to design and test the proposed secure framework. Real-time Transport Protocol over User Datagram Protocol is used to transmit the encrypted audio and video streams, and RSA and AES algorithms are used to provide the required security services. Results show that the encryption algorithm insignificantly increases the video conferencing computation time.

Technology enhanced learning is a key part of learning and teaching in most of the higher education. It not only provides easy access to pedagogical content of interest with few clicks, but it is a great way to acquire knowledge at ones doorstep. Many universities are providing distance and blended education programs through eLearning platforms, learning management systems (LMS) and smart tools, along side traditional lectures for on campus students. The use of recorded lecture videos and audios, lecture notes, presentation slides, handouts, etc., are commonly used to disseminate knowledge via various eLearning platforms. While these platforms are a good way to reach out to off-campus students, they often lack a two-way communication between a student and a teacher, and the interactivity with the content. Recently, the rapid growth of multi-access mobile devices interconnected with different wearable biosignal sensors via Body Area Network (BAN) play an increasingly important role in healthcare systems and provide significant solutions for scenarios of home healthcare, real-time remote/mobile patient monitoring and ubiquitous tele-consultation. The proliferation of different radio access technologies make possible mobile healthcare (mHealth) services to actively benefit from the advances of heterogeneous and overlapping wireless networks. The varying characteristics of mHealth applications (particularly different real-time monitoring solutions) in means of the required network resources and Quality of Services parameters invoke elaboration of effective flow-based mobility management algorithms. Aiming to provide a transparent and efficient mobility infrastructure for the mHealth field we designed and developed a context-aware IPv6 flow mobility management scheme for Android focusing on mobile patient monitoring and tele-consultation use-cases in a multi-sensor environment. The proposed solution incorporates a cross-layer optimization platform and relies on MIP6D-NG, which is a client-based, multi-access, flow-aware Mobile IPv6 implementation. The advent of the digital television in Brazil has allowed users to access interactive channels. Once interactive channels are available, the users are able to find multimediacontent such as movies and breaking news programs, to send and/or receive emails, to access interactive applications and also other contents. In this context, a high demand of requests from users is expected. Therefore, from the content provider's point of view, the determination of transmission parameters is needed in order to ensure the best quality of transmission to every user. The aforementioned identification problem is modelled as an optimization problem and a solution procedure based on metaheuristic techniques is proposed. Genetic Algorithm and Tabu Search metaheuristics are employed separately and coupled in a hybrid scheme to define the best transmission policy, optimizing the transmission parameters, such as audio and video transmission rates. Based on the experimental results, the hybrid algorithm has produced better solutions which meet the quality requirements.

A great research challenge in multimediasystems is the user-centric design and adaptation of interfaces to multimediasystems. User-centric does involve methods of HCI (Human-Centric Interface) research, but should also better incorporate the interest of the users, the usage context and the technical properties of the system. This work focuses on multimediasystems in the domain of emergent interactive TV applications. These systems are very dynamic and rich in their interaction patterns and require hyperlinked, browsing, searching and collaborative access to different multimedia resources, thus delivering complex research problems to the interface design of multimediasystems. In the application center is the development and access to recommendation systems which is an important component in such system, due to the immense information in channels and content proposed. The work will therefore pose and solve research questions on concrete requirements of multimediasystems for interactive TV applications in terms of utilization and context. For the practical evaluation of the proposed methods, we will provide extensions to Personal TV, a multimedia recommendation system recently released at the department of computer science with a focus on Distributed Information systems of University of Passau, that will presents a means to provide for a mobile multimediasystems an User-Centric and personalized access.
