Increasingly, multimedia services require efficient delivery systems to support content distribution. If a service targets groups of users then a point-to-multipoint distribution technology is naturally more optimized. 3GPP has specified MBMS (multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service) and E-MBMS (Evolved MBMS) systems to broadcast and multicast rich media contents to mobile communities in an efficient way. But these systems can be enhanced with a permanent access to users' context information for dynamic group management leading to effective content distribution. This paper proposes an algorithm that employs the ubiquitous awareness of the user situation to optimize the multimediacontent distribution to user groups, saving the resources of the mobile operators' networks.

The growing amount of heterogeneous digital repositories has created a demand for effective and flexible techniques for automatic multimedia data retrieval. While the primary type of information available in documents is usually text, other type of information such as images play a very important role because they pictorially describe concepts that are dealt with in the document. Unfortunately, the semantic gap separating the visual content from the underlying meaning is wide. The main goal of the project concerns the investigation of machine learning approaches to improve the semantic access to multimedia repositories by combining information gathered from the textual content with the one coming from pictorial representation. Furthermore, they have to be scalable, efficient and robust with respect to the inborn high-dimensionality and noise in the data collection.

The pervasive generation and use of various multimediacontents emphasize the fact that these systems are now integrated parts of our life. As a result, organizing and accessing such data have been the focus of many researchers in our field over the past years. Although many proposed systems have been successful, the need for contemporary methodologies and tools that can cope with advances in media sizes and representations is still a necessity. This paper introduces a new system for content-Based Retrieval (CBR) of image data. The proposed system presents a novel use of the genetic algorithms in order to improve a number of performance assessment criteria. The evolutionary algorithm optimizes a set of given features in the feature space and ensures that only promising candidates are returned as matches to the submitted query. Our hypothesis is that the integration of the GAs with an image CBR system will not only enhance the effectiveness of the system in returning best matches and avoiding irrelevant ones but also will improve the efficiency of the system by excluding non-promising areas of the search space which yields faster response. The Experimental results confirmed our hypothesis and showed promising performance in terms of convergence to best matches, efficacy and retrieval accuracy and precision.

Raptor code, a member of the rateless fountain codes family, has been a preferred technology for the forward error correction (FEC) at the application layer. It is used by the 3(rd) Generation Partnership Program (3GPP) multimedia Broadcast/Multicast Service (MBMS) and Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB-H) standards for multimedia broadcast and content delivery. Currently, a next generation fountain code, called RaptorQ, is being proposed. It aims at reducing to a minimum the redundant FEC information, outperforming significantly Raptor code. The improved coding performance comes at the expense of increased encoding and decoding complexity. This paper compares the coding properties, the decoding performance and the energy efficiency of the two codes on embedded system. Furthermore, simulations are performed for a practical MBMS scenario. Finally, conclusions are drawn with respect to the applicability of the new code for realtime multimedia broadcasting and content delivery.

Methods of Web pages content monitoring come increasingly in the interest of law enforcement services, searching for Web pages contain symptoms of criminal activities. The information can be hidden from indexing systems by embedding in multimedia materials. Finding such materials is a large challenge of contemporary criminal analysis. A concept of integrating a large scale Web crawling system with a multimedia materials analysis algorithms is described in this paper. The Web crawling system, which is processing a few hundred pages per second, provides a mechanism for plugin inclusion. A plugin can analyze processed resources and detect references to multimedia materials. The references are passed to a component, which implements an algorithm for image or video analysis. Several approaches to the integration are described and some exemplary implementation assumptions are presented.
