In this article, we address the problem concerning the incremental construction of peer-to-peer network adopted for the distribution of multimedia contents transmitted by a single source node on asymmetric channels through an infrastructure of access points. In this paper we are introducing new algorithms based on peer-to-peer algorithm presented by G. Mazzini and R. Rovatti (2008) and compare them through a particular model and a simulator based on a simple radio channel characterization; in this comparison the new algorithms offer a better wireless behaviour than the base algorithm.

We propose a cost-effective and new Earliest-Deadline First (EDF) hardware scheduler with low power and low circuit area advantages as well as an electronic system level (ESL) verification framework for co-exploring algorithms and architectures of wireless multimedia embedded systems. In the proposed ESL platform, a network simulator alleviates both benchmarking and deployment of wireless network environment when fitting a Silicon Intellectual Property (SIP) prototype to the Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA). An IEEE 802.11e HCCA case study show that we efficiently approach optimal collaborations between media access control (MAC) and the new EDF scheduling algorithm to achieve low power objective based on the algorithm and architecture codesign.

We propose a fuzzy combined learning approach to construct a relevance feedback-based content-based image retrieval (CBIR) system for efficient image search. Our system uses a composite short-term and long-term learning approach to learn the semantics of an image. Specifically, the short-term learning technique applies fuzzy support vector machine (FSVM) learning on user labeled and additional chosen image blocks to learn a more accurate boundary for separating the relevant and irrelevant blocks at each feedback iteration. The long-term learning technique applies a novel semantic clustering technique to adaptively learn and update the semantic concepts at each query session. A predictive algorithm is also applied to find images most semantically related to the query based on the semantic clusters generated in the long-term learning. Our extensive experimental results demonstrate the proposed system outperforms several state-of-the-art peer systems in terms of both retrieval precision and storage space.

content-based multimedia database indexing and retrieval tasks require automatic extraction of descriptive features that are relevant to the subject materials i.e., images, video etc. The typical low-level features that are extracted in images and video include measures of color, texture, or shape. Although these features can easily be obtained, they do not give a precise idea of the image content. Extracting more descriptive features and higher level entities, such as text and human faces is important. Text embedded in images and video, especially captions provide brief and important content information, such as the name of players or speakers, the title, location, date of an event, etc. Besides, text-based search has been successfully applied in many applications, while the robustness and computation cost of feature matching algorithms based on other high-level features is not efficient enough to be applied to large databases. The objective of this paper is to compare two basic approaches of text extraction in natural (non-document) images namely; edge-based and connected-component based. These algorithms are implemented and evaluated using a set of images of natural scenes that vary along the dimensions of lighting, scale and orientation. Accuracy, precision and recall rates for each approach are analyzed to determine the success and limitations of each approach. Recommendations for improvements are given based on the results.

In order to meet the rapidly growing and changing needs of mobile instant messaging (IM), this paper provides a new service model and implementation mechanism based on Jabber and hierarchical thinking. The communication protocol of our system provides an open, expandable, real-time communication technology that can be used to build a wide range of XML applications. We use Linux C++, MySQL, and protocol conversion technology to develop the services of server and use J2ME technology to develop mobile client software. The system uses the newest network technology to supply WAP access and provide Web services. It is demonstrated by experiment that the system based on the hierarchical model can build stable and efficient mobile IM service that covers multimedia content sharing and corresponds with external services conveniently. It processes a message at an average of 4 milliseconds and the error rate is one ten thousandth.

multimedia content sharing services, such as YouTube, usually offer only low quality video streams. Additionally, it is expected the popularity of these services will increase even further in the future. Therefore, current streaming- content delivery architectures, with centralised searching and management components, might not be able to keep up with the ever-growing user bases. In this paper, we propose a scalable and fully distributed end- to-end architecture for delivering streaming multimedia content. Additionally, we designed several algorithms that allow content servers to intelligently adapt content quality to the available access-link bandwidth and server resources. In this way, the service can improve quality of experience, by offering higher bit-rates at times of low load, while still being able to satisfy as many content requests as possible when the load increases. In depth simulations were performed to validate and evaluate these algorithms. The results show that the proposed platform is capable of increasing delivered stream quality and accepted content requests in various large-scale scenarios.

In this paper, a location aware public/personal diversity of information services based on embedded RFID platform that integrates the existed RFID systems and digital information content services server is proposed. The embedded RFID middleware integration platform included in the proposed system is the main system to manage information from RFID communication system. The platform embedded by RFID system and API, logical determination and decision function, and third party API. According to the gained information of user's RFID tag, the platform access the remote digital content database and broadcast the corresponding digital content such as advertisements, coupons, or multimedia which related to the end user's personal requirements, locations, or historical user records. The information services provided to each user are individual and diverse. The real test and verification prove that the proposed platform can certainly reduce the construction cost of specific area service system deployment. In addition, the proposed platform can be embedded to different RFID hardware and third party application.

Initially mobile phones were developed only for voice communication but now days the scenario has changed, voice communication is just one aspect of a mobile phone. There are other aspects which are major focus of interest. Two such major factors are web browser and GPS services. Both of these functionalities are already implemented but are only in the hands of manufacturers not in the hands of users because of proprietary issues, the system does not allow the user to access the mobile hardware directly. But now, after the release of android based open source mobile phone a user can access the hardware directly and design customized native applications to develop Web and GPS enabled services and can program the other hardware components like camera etc. In this paper we will discuss the facilities available in android platform for implementing LBS services (geo-services).
