The management,of the vast amount of media assets captured at every day events such as meetings, birthday parties, vacation, and conferences has become an increasingly challenging problem. Today, most media management applications are media-centric. This means, they put the captured media assets into the center of the management. However, in recent years it has been proposed that events are a much better abstraction of human experience and thus provide a more appropriate means for managing media assets. Consequently, approaches that include events into their media management solution have been explored. However, they typically consider events only as some more metadata that can be extracted from the media assets. In addition, today's applications and approaches concentrate on particular problems such as event detection, tagging, sharing, classification, or clustering and are often focused on a single media type. In this paper, we argue for the benefits of an event-centric media management (EMMa) approach that-looks at the problem of media management holistically. Based on a generic event model, we specify a media event model for-the EMMa approach. The single -phases and processes of the EMMa approach are defined in a general process chain for-an event-centric media management, the EMMa cycle. This cycle follows the event concept throughout all phases and processes of the chain and-puts the concept of events in the center of the media management. Based on the media event model and EMMa cycle, we design a component-based architecture for the EMMa approach and conduct an implementation of the approach.

Tools for user-oriented access to desired information are thus needed. In this paper, we illustrate a novel fuzzy multimedia mining technique for genre characterisation, aimed at overcoming limitations of conventional crisp classification systems. In recent years, online learning systems have become a popular learning environment. For learners, online learning knows no time zones, and location and distance are not an issue. In online learning, students can access the online materials at anytime, while synchronous online learning allows for real time interaction between students and the instructor. Learners can use the Internet to access up-to-date and relevant learning materials, and can communicate with experts in the field in which they are studying. Situated learning is facilitated, since learners can complete online courses while working on the job or in their own space, and can contextualize the learning.[1] In this paper we created "The Online-multimedia instruction of Plastic Packaging Technology". The purposes of this study are included;to create the online multimedia, to evaluate the quality of the online multimedia, and to find the satisfaction to the online multimedia utilization. The quality of this multimedia package content was verified and evaluated by three specialists. The quality score was 4.62 averagely, which means the quality is in excellent level. After the multimedia was created completely, it was evaluated by three website specialists. The result shows the score of website is 4.10 averagely which also means good level. The satisfaction to the multimedia is evaluated by 60 students from Printing and Packaging Technology department. The satisfaction score is 4.56 which mean excellent level. The above mentioned average score indicated that this multimedia package can be applied for education and general public relation about plastic packaging technology.

Unlike early versions of MPEG, MPEG-7 is shifting from a data-compression standard to a multimediacontent description standard. As a result, it will have much broader implications for the human-computer interaction research. There are countless ways that the MPEG-7 meta-data description framework can enhance users' experiences in accessing multimediacontent. In this paper, we will report the algorithms that we developed for automatic generation of MPEG-7's description schemes (DSs): a video Table of contents DS to enhance active video browsing, a Summary DS to enable direct use of a meta-data producer's annotation, and a Still Image DS to allow interactive content-based image retrieval. Experimental results and user studies demonstrated the usefulness of MPEG-7's meta-data framework and effectiveness of our proposed automatic DS generation techniques.

The EATHRONE project proposes an integrated management solution that covers the entire audiovisual service distribution chain, including protected content handling, distribution across networks and reception at user terminals. The aim is not to unify or impose a strategy on each individual entity of the chain, bid to harmonise their functionality, in order to support an end-to-end Quality of Service (QoS) architecture over heterogeneous networks, applied to a variety of audio-visual services that are delivered to various user terminals. In this paper we propose a way to combine the reliability and theoretic underpinning of the first world with the single document based approach of the latter. Starting from a single initial documentwe use the set of hyperlinked web pages to build the required training set for Template Detection automatically. By clustering the documents in this set according to their underlying templates we clean the training set from documents based on different templates. We confirm the applicability of the approach by using an entropy based Template Detection algorithm to build a content Extractor.

The efficient file searching is an essential feature in P2P systems. While many current approaches use brute force techniques to search files by meta information (file names, extensions or user-provided tags), the interest is in implementing techniques that allow content-based search in P2P systems. Recently, clustering techniques have been used for searching text documents to increase the efficiency of document discovery and retrieval. Integrating such techniques into P2P systems is important to enhance searching in P2P file sharing systems. While some effort has been done for content-based searching for text documents in P2P systems, there has been few research work for applying these techniques for multimediacontent in P2P systems. In this paper we introduce two P2P content-based clustering techniques for multimedia documents. These techniques are an adaptation of the existing Class-based Semantic Search (CSS) algorithm for text documents. The proposed algorithms have been integrated into a JXTA-based Overlay P2P platform, and some initial evaluation results are provided. The JXTA-Overlay together with the considered clustering techniques is thus very useful for developing P2P multimedia applications requiring efficient searching of multimediacontents in peer nodes.

Embedded multimedia applications consist of regular and irregular memory access patterns. Particularly, irregular pattern are not amenable to static analysis for extraction of access patterns, and thus prevent efficient use of a Scratch Pad Memory (SPM) hierarchy for performance and energy improvements. To resolve this, we present a compiler strategy to optimize data layout in regular/ irregular multimedia applications running on embedded multiprocessor environments. The goal is to maximize the amount of accesses to the SPM over the entire system which leads to a reduction in the energy consumption of the system. This is achieved by optimizing data placement of application-wide reused data so that it resides in the SPMs of processing elements. Specifically, our scheme is based on a profiling that generates a memory access footprint. The memory access footprint is used to identify data elements with fine granularity that can profitably be placed in the SPMs to maximize performance and energy gains. We present a heuristic approach that efficiently exploits the SPMs using memory access footprint. Our experimental results show that our approach is able to reduce energy consumption by 30% and improve performance by 18% over cache based memory subsystems for various multimedia applications.
