The problem of controlling access to multimedia multicasts requires the distribution and maintenance of keying information. The conventional approach to distributing keys is to use a channel independent of the multimedia content. We propose a second approach that involves the use of an data-dependent channel, and can be achieved for multimedia by using data embedding techniques. Using data embedding to convey rekeying messages can provide an additional layer of security when compared with the traditional approach. We then introduce multicast key distribution, and employ a recent tree-based key distribution scheme to exhibit the factors involved in transmitting keys using data embedding.

This paper proposes an intelligent transformation of digital signage systems by making it more audience interactive. The increase in flexibility and enhancement of digital signage display system can be done by providing optimized information and appearance attractive multimedia content through the signage system. This emphasizes more on the advertisement industry especially in public spaces like hotels, airports. The system has been designed to broadcast the advertisement on the signage display system based on the demographic features like gender of the observer. Real-time computer vision algorithms are applied to provide an observer-specific advertisement broadcast on the display system.

Real-time content-based access to live video data requires content analysis applications that are able to process the video data at least as fast as the video data is made available to the application and with an acceptable error rate. Statements as this express quality of service (QoS) requirements to the application. In order to provide some level of control of the QoS provided, the video content analysis application must be scalable and resource aware so that requirements of timeliness and accuracy can be met by allocating additional processing resources. In this paper we present a general architecture of video content analysis applications including a model for specifying requirements of timeliness and accuracy. The salient features of the architecture include its combination of probabilistic knowledge-based media content analysis with QoS and distributed resource management to handle QoS requirements, and its independent scalability at multiple logical levels of distribution. We also present experimental results with an algorithm for QoS-aware selection of configurations of feature extractor and classification algorithms that can be used to balance requirements of timeliness and accuracy against available processing resources. Experiments with an implementation of a real-time motion vector based object-tracking application, demonstrate the scalability of the architecture.

HIT-DML: A novel Digital Music Library

The design and implementation of Harbin Institute of Technology-Digital Music Library (HIT-DML) is presented in this paper. HIT-DML adopts a novel framework which is inherently based on database systems. In this framework, musical data is structurally stored in the database, some algorithms of musical computation are implemented as algebraic mirco-operations in the database management system, and thus database technologies and multimedia technologies are combined seamlessly. A musical feature-matching algorithm and the appropriate dynamic index are also applied in HIT-DML. HIT-DML can retrieve musical information based on content, especially against different kinds of musical instruments.

How to facilitate efficient video manipulation and access in a web-based environment is becoming a popular trend for video applications. In this paper, we present a web-oriented video management and application processing system, based on our previous work on multimedia database and content-based retrieval. In particular, we extend the VideoMAP architecture with specific web-oriented mechanisms, which include: (1) Concurrency control facilities for the editing of video data among different types of users, such as Video Administrator, Video Producer, Video Editor, and Video Query Client;different users are assigned various priority levels for different operations on the database. (2) Versatile video retrieval mechanism which employes a hybrid approach by integrating a query-based (database) mechanism with content-based retrieval (CBR) functions;its specific language (CAROL/ST with CBR) supports spatiotemporal semantics of video objects, and also offers an improved mechanism to describe visual content of videos by content-based analysis method. (3) Query profiling database which records the "histories" of various clients' query activities;such profiles can be used to provide the default query template when a similar query is encountered by the same kind of users. An experimental prototype system is being developed based on the existing VideoMAP prototype system, using Java and VC++ on the PC platform.

Image encryption is a fundamental component of modern data security that guarantees the integrity, privacy, and confidentiality of sensitive visual content. This paper provides a thorough examination of image encryption, comparing and contrasting different encryption techniques and their benefits and limitations as well as real-world uses. In order to strengthen image data security against unwanted access and manipulation, we first offer some basic understanding of image encryption. The suitability of symmetric, asymmetric, and hybrid encryption techniques in various contexts is examined. We also explore the assessment criteria used to evaluate encryption algorithms, highlighting the significance of using suitable measures to precisely gauge security and effectiveness. We also discuss common issues with image encryption, like complicated key management and computational complexity. The review also explores future directions that picture encryption might take, including multi-media encryption techniques, resistance to cryptanalysis, and quantum image encryption. We also highlight how important image encryption is in a variety of fields, such as finance, healthcare, journalism, intellectual property protection, and military operations. We will conduct a thorough analysis of current cryptography schemes and multimedia encryption algorithms to provide a comprehensive overview of the current security landscape tailored to digital multimedia technology. The findings from this survey will enhance our understanding of the efficacy and dependability of secure multimedia encryption schemes, ultimately aiding in the development of more efficient and robust encryption methods for the future. This article aims to summarize and assess numerous algorithms using different methodologies based on multiple characteristics such as MSE, PSNR, NC, BER, and so on. © 2024 IEEE.

In Wireless multimedia Sensor Networks (WMSNs), data fusion and collaborative in-network processing operations often require effective multimedia synchronization control. Extensive researches have been done in the traditional networks. Most of these works assume that there exists a powerful synchronization controller in the network. However, for WMSNs, the in-network processing of the multimedia content is usually performed based on the resource-constrained sensors. Traditional synchronization control algorithms fail to run on the low-end hardware platform. In this paper, we propose an adaptive synchronization control scheme with multi-level buffer to address this problem. Main contributions of this paper are as follows. (i) To overcome the resource constraint of WMSNs, we perform the synchronization control in a distributed way by combining the sensors in the stream transmission path. (ii) By evaluating the current network state, we adjust the level number of the buffer adaptively to balance the delay and delay jitter. (iii) Through analyzing the buffer state of each level, we propose an efficient packet scheduling scheme to reduce the delay jitter actively. (iv) We implement the proposed scheme and verify its effectiveness in our practical WMSNs platform. The experiment results show that the proposed scheme can maintain the streams synchronization effectively with the low-end sensors.
