In this paper, we proposed a scheme for TV news segmentation via exploring the efficient visual features. The proposed scheme can be divided into three parts, such as shot change detection based on skin color;probable anchorperson shot detection and anchorperson detection. According to experimental results, our proposed method can efficiently decompose TV news into anchorperson shots and report shots. Compared to the traditional face detection methods, the proposed method can robustly exclude the non-anchorperson shots in report shots such as the interview scenes. Experimental results are given to demonstrate the feasibility and efficiency of the proposed technique.

With all the hype created around multimedia in the last few years, consumers expect to be able to access multimedia content in a real-time manner, anywhere and anytime. One of the problems with the real-time requirement is that transportation networks, such as the Internet, are still prone to errors. Due to real-time constraints, retransmission of lost data is, more often than not, not an option. Therefore, the study of error resilience and error concealment techniques is of the utmost importance since it can seriously limit the impact of a transmission error. In this paper an evaluation of a part of flexible macroblock ordering, one of the new error resilience techniques in H.264/AVC, is made by analyzing its costs and gains in an error-prone environment. This paper concentrates on the study of flexible macroblock ordering (FMO). More specifically a study of scattered slices, FMO type 1, is made. Our analysis shows that FMO type I is a good tool to introduce error robustness into an H.264/AVC bitstream as long as the QP is higher than 30. When the QP of the bitstream is below 30, the cost of FMO type I becomes a serious burden.

Tiled displays systems built by combining the images from arrays of projectors can provide huge numbers of pixel elements to applications needing to visually represent lots of information. Such applications are already coming into wide usage and include large scientific visualizations, collaborative virtual environments, and rich multimedia spaces. It is, however, difficult to create the illusion of a unified seamless display for a variety of reasons including optical distortion of the individual projector images due to imperfections in the lenses and basic alignment of the projectors. In this paper we describe an efficient and optimized measurement process using inexpensive components that is tolerant of a wide range of imperfections in components and measurement setup (lighting conditions, camera optics, etc.). Our method nonetheless is capable of accurate and detailed measurement of the layout of all projector images, including the generation of a detailed model of the distortions in each projector optical system. It performs these measurements on the entire array of projectors at once. Once the detailed mapping between projector pixels and mural pixels is measured, the resulting relations can be used in any of a number of ways to improve the appearance of images projected on the display.

The basic methodologies used in animation are presented and their most significant problems connected with combining real and virtual worlds are recognised. The optical method of shape and movement determination is proposed for fast virtual object generation. Combination of fringe projection technique with photogrammetry is used to calculate the shape and position of the object points. The object surface during the measurement is illuminated by DMD projector and observed by two spatially separated CCD detectors. The time varying fringe pattern observed on the object surface is analysed by spatial carrier phase shifting algorithm to determine the actual shape. The analysis of fiducial point's positions on two CCD detectors during the measurement provides an information about their points 3D co-ordinates within the measurement volume. Combined information about actual object shape and its position in time (as a rigid body motion) during the measurement enables to generate a virtual model of the object together with the description of its movement. The concept described above is experimentally tested and the exemplary results of measurement of human body parts are presented. The brief error analysis is presented. The further works to implement this technique are discussed.

Detecting and identifying targets in aerial images has been a challenging problem due to various types of image distortion factors, such as motion of a sensing device, weather variation, scale changes, and dynamic viewpoint. For accurate, robust recognition of objects in unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) videos, we present a novel target detection and identification algorithm using part-template matching. The proposed method for target detection partitions the target into part-templates by efficient extraction method based on target part regions. We also propose distribution distance measurement-based target identification using the target part-template.

Recently, digital projection systems have evolved quickly in accordance with their important role in multimedia displays and the market demand for higher performance. The general trend has been, higher performance requires more bulky and expensive systems. There are several approaches for the projection and illumination optics to overcome this trend. Among these is the use of aspheric lenses. Normally a plastic aspheric lens fabricated by diamond turning is regarded only for use in prototypes. However, this can be adopted into high-end products by careful consideration of several critical issues. A diffractive/refractive hybrid lens is another possible choice due to recent technical breakthroughs overcoming the superfluous diffracted light that has confined this hybrid lens to several special applications despite many advantages to use this promising element. A possible design example for a projection lens with the hybrid elements is suggested. LED illumination is a novel approach for a projection monitor that can be successfully commercialized in the near future. Because of their superb properties of long lifetime, good color saturation and high efficiency LEDs are useful in this application. An optical system that can maximize LED illumination efficiency is suggested.

Various visible and infrared cameras have been tested for the early detection of wildfires to protect archeological treasures. This analysis was possible thanks to the EU Firesense project (FP7-244088). Although visible cameras are low cost and give good results during daytime for smoke detection, they fall short under bad visibility conditions. In order to improve the fire detection probability and reduce the false alarms, several infrared bands are tested ranging from the NIR to the LWIR. The SWIR and the LWIR band are helpful to locate the fire through smoke if there is a direct Line Of Sight. The Emphasis is also put on the physical and the electro-optical system modeling for forest fire detection at short and longer ranges. The fusion in three bands (Visible, SWIR, LWIR) is discussed at the pixel level for image enhancement and for fire detection.

This paper describes the design and implementation of a system for managing the tagging of traffic, in order to create detailed personal and applicational profiles. The ultimate goal of this separation is to facilitate the task of traffic auditing tools, namely in their struggle against botnets. The architecture was designed for domestic or enterprise facilities and uses the 802. ix authentication architecture as the base support infrastructure for dealing with unequivocal traffic binding to specific entities (persons or servers). Simultaneously, such binding uses virtual identities and encryption for preserving the privacy and protection of traffic originators from network eavesdroppers other than authorized traffic auditors. The traffic from each known originator is profiled with some detail, namely it includes a role tag and an application tag. Role tags are defined by originators and only partially follow a standard policy. On the contrary, application tags should follow a standard policy in order to reason about abnormal scenarios raised when correlating traffic from several instances of the same application. A first prototype was developed for Linux, using iptables and FreeRADIUS and conveying packet tagging information on a new IP option field.
