Generally deployed in an unattended environment, a sensor network can be easily assaulted or compromised by adversaries. Network security becomes a major problem. A distributed node revocation scheme is effective in reducing the damages a compromised node may cause to a sensor network, but its operation tends to consume large-scale memory space of the hardware-constrained sensor nodes. To reduce such complexity, this paper presents a new distributed voting revocation scheme based on the one-way hash chain, the concept of threshold secret sharing, the certificate revocation list and the public-key cryptography.

One of TCP's key tasks is to react and avoid network congestion episodes which normally arise in packet switched networks. A wide literature is available concerning the behaviour of congestion control algorithms in many different scenarios and several congestion control algorithms have been proposed in order to improve performances in specific scenarios. In this paper we focus on the UMTS wireless scenario and we report a campaign of measurements that involved around 3000 flows and more than 40 hours of measurements using three different TCP stacks: TCP NewReno, which is the congestion control algorithm standardized by IETF, TCP BIC which is the default congestion control algorithm adopted by the Linux operating system, and TCP Westwood+ also available in the Linux kernel. The experimental evaluation has been carried out by accessing the public Internet using an UNITS card. Measurements of goodputs, RTTs over time, packet loss ratios, number of timeouts and Jain Fairness Indices are reported through cumulative distribution functions. Moreover, the efficiency of each TCP version in transferring files has been evaluated by varying the file size in the range from 50 KB up to 500 KB. The cumulative distribution functions reported in the paper show interesting results: 1) a single downlink flow is far from saturating the channel bandwidth;2) considered TCP stacks provide similar results;3) 90th (50th) percentile of the goodput of a single downlink flow is less or equal then 230 kbps (120 kbps) compared to a nominal 384 kbps UNITS downlink channel.

In this paper, we propose an algorithm to realize a power-aware network topology in wireless sensor networks. The algorithm creates a multicast tree connecting all sensor nodes. In the multicast tree, a sink node should be a root node, and all the data sensed in the sensor nodes are transferred to the sink node using the tree connection. The relay nodes aggregate the received data, and transfer the aggregated data to the sink at an appropriate timing so as to avoid packet collisions. To do this, all the sensor nodes are grouped in clusters. Here, each cluster has a head node, which is automatically selected from among the nodes in the cluster. In addition, our algorithm has an autonomous mechanism that can change the cluster head dynamically based on the remaining energy of each sensor node and the communication quality among the sensor nodes, which are obtained by periodical information exchange between the sensor nodes. This mechanism contributes to extending the lifetime of the sensor network. After describing the algorithm, some experimental results are shown to prove its effectiveness and robustness.

Wide-band Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) systems are considered to be among the best alternatives for Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS). In future deployment of WCDMA systems, spectrum overlay among sub-bands with different bandwidth is necessary to support various kinds of services. In this paper, we present a novel approach for evaluating the teletraffic performance of multi-band overlaid WCDMA systems in terms of time, call, and traffic blocking probabilities of each service class. We convert the radio model into a circuit switched network by introducing the concept of virtual channel so that classical teletraffic theory can be applied. A service class is modelled as a BPP (Binomial-Poisson-Pascal) multi-rate traffic stream.

In this paper, we study the problem of existing mobile Ad hoc network routing protocols for next generation high speed networks. It is the case when the speed of mobile nodes is getting higher i.e, high mobility environment (HME). It is well known fact that Ad Hoc network is one of the strongest member network in next generation integrated network most of existing routing protocols are designed to support relatively low mobility nodes. When the speed of mobile nodes increases, however, the more erroneous updates of routing paths occur resulting in performance degradation on route connectivity. In the high speed network, the routing tables are not stable and their information could be false. In order to cope with high mobility, we propose a solution promoting the AODV routing scheme. The modification is named 'Time Of Visit (TOV).' This policy may inspire the nodes to get latest routing information, supports real time routing table updating, avoid loop formation, increase throughput and decreases packet delay.

communication between sensors and controlling entities at the edge or outside the sensor network is needed for reliable remote sensor node management and reprogramming. TCP would be useful for tasks, where reliable unicast is appropriate, but the high bit error rates in wireless sensor networks lead to energy inefficiencies reducing the sensor network lifetime. We introduce an approach to support energy-efficient TCP operation in sensor networks. The concept called TCP support for sensor nodes (TSS) allows intermediate sensor nodes to cache TCP data segments and to perform local retransmissions in case of errors. TSS does not forward a cached segment until it knows that the previous segment has been successfully received by the next hop. This forms a backpressure mechanism for congestion control. Simulations show that TSS significantly reduces the number of TCP data segment and acknowledgement transmissions

The necessity to secure the communication between wireless sensor networks nodes becomes important with the system nodes are being deployed for a wide variety of applications. In this paper, we propose a new approach for session key management among group sensor nodes. We use initial trust node to build a small set of shared keys, low-cost protocols enable neighboring sensors to authenticate and establish secure local links. Each shared key used only once after the set of shared keys are built. Our session scheme exhibits a nice power efficient and excellent updating communications keys. At the same time our scheme updating keys go with exchanging message. Extensive analyses and simulations are conducted to evaluate the proposed schemes, and the results show that the proposed management schemes can achieve a good level of security.

While there is growing demand for wireless bandwidth, the most pressing problem affecting this situation today is the attempt to increase bandwidth by extending the same technologies with tricks - rather than by using innovation. Opportunities for innovation are quite good with higher carrier frequencies, since these enable simplicity and low power consumption - opening the door to ubiquitous wireless networking. Numerous challenges exist in technology and design methods; however, meeting these intellectual challenges is the only route to next-generation wireless data technologies.

The traffic in IP networks has increased, and the diversification of services has advanced in recent years. Therefore, network carriers request services that they can provide as soon as possible and want to use large-scale networks for next-generation network technologies. There is two kinds of problems. First is a taking a long time to develop new services. Second is a problem stemming from the processing of routing protocols using interior gateway protocol in large-scale IP networks such as carrier networks. As a solution for those problems, this paper presents a functionally distributed transport network architecture on NGN and a method to map routing functions to control-plane servers and routers where a routing process, performs route computation and distribution for multiple routers collectively. For the communication mechanism between routers and servers, the ForCES architecture model proposed in IETF is utilized. This paper also presents a route-computation method using a link-state database that is configured based on suppressed representation of a network where a whole subnetwork is regarded as a router.

In this paper, we propose an adaptive application-specific cooperative relaying mechanism for delivering layered coded multimedia data over wireless sensor networks. The proposed approach is to optimally map source data layers of different perceptual importance to relay nodes, so that the most important data layer can be transmitted in high quality. Each relay node only needs to detect and forward the assigned sub-streams (layers) of multimedia data. The distinctive benefit of this approach is to minimize the video distortion induced by buffer overflow and delay violation, while reducing transmission processing requirements on each relay node and providing significant savings in transmit and receive energy. Experimental results show that, compared with other cooperative methods, the proposed algorithm achieves significant performance improvement.
