Shadow plays an important role in increasing authenticity and immersion degree of the scenes in virtual reality environment. It is an indispensable part of the virtual reality scene. And shadow generation also is a challenging and hot topic in the computer graphics field. With the increasing complexity of the scene, real-time shadow generation brings enormous workload to the computer. Based on ray tracing, this paper presents an algorithm to pre-compute the shadow in the scene. The algorithm maps the shadow information in the world space into a shadow texture, and blends it with the diffuse texture to reduce the computation for real-time generation of shadow. The experimental results show that the algorithm meets the rendering speed and photorealism of the scene very well and has a good implication in the 3D scene.

In this paper we refer to the very important role of detailed and advanced planning, as well as to the optimization of radio network of the next generation wireless networks that offers multimedia traffic. next generation mobile operators that are adapting 3G mobile technologies and beyond are facing more and more challenges connected to the design and planning of the factual multi service radio networks as WCDMA itself. These challenges are not independent and must be considered together with the user's demand and performance analyses as key factors of designing process, dimensioning and pre-operational optimization of the infrastructure of radio network.

In third-generation (3G) wireless data networks, mobile users experiencing poor channel quality usually have low data-rate connections with the base-station. Providing service to low data-rate users is required for maintaining fairness, but at the cost of reducing the cell's aggregate throughput. Some researchers proposed for enhancing cell throughput, while maintaining fairness. In UCAN[1], a mobile client has both 3G cellular link and IEEE 802.11-based peer-to-peer links. The 3G base station forwards packets for destination clients with poor channel quality to proxy clients with better channel quality. The proxy clients then use an ad-hoc network composed of other mobile clients and IEEE 802.11 wireless links to forward the packets to the appropriate destinations, thereby improving cell throughput. But this network architecture is not classic and has some disadvantages. Once a client has high data-rate connections with the base-station, it will always be selected to be proxy because of the average downlink channel rate that remains stable in a relatively larger time scale (in seconds or more depending on the moving speed of the mobile client). Accordingly, the energy consumption of this client will increase quickly. By all appearances, it is not fair and will make this client disabled with its energy used up. So in this paper, we will put forward a new architecture model as complement to increase the performance of UCAN network architecture named SUCAN (UCAN network architecture based on Subproxy-finding). This paper gives a minute discussion about the concept and application of Subproxy-finding. The theoretic analysis and extensive simulations show that it will extend the life-span of proxy and reduce overall energy consumption in the network.

next generation networks will be more and more heterogeneous and dynamic. The traditional model for interactions between different networks is relatively static. However, future scenarios involve quite dynamic inter-network relationships established to meet service requirements on-the-fly. In particular, Network Composition will enable dynamic and automatic cooperation between networks, based on agreements tailored to meet the specific needs of the networks concerned. To facilitate such interactions, functionality to advertise and to discover various networks and services within the local and remote scope will be required. In this paper, we address the twinfunctions of Network Advertisement and Discovery. A scenariobased analysis is used to determine the key requirements of these functions, with special emphasis on the problem of distributing advertisement and discovery messages to a set of unknown target networks. A novel solution called Map of Relaying Messages is presented to enable the efficient and timely distribution of various messages for the purpose of advertisement and discovery.

In the next generation of wireless networks, mobile users should move across various access technologies, using multi-interface terminals and different types of services. The most important issue in such heterogeneous environment is the always best connected (ABC) concept. It allows the best connectivity to services anywhere at anytime. For that, a seamless inter-system handover solution is needed. In our paper, we propose an intelligent solution, based on the context-awareness concept, ensuring service continuity and answering user requirements. We focus on the vertical handover decision issue. It performs whether and over which access network to hand over among those available. It uses advanced decision algorithms (for more efficiency and intelligence) and it is governed by handover policies as decision rules (for more flexibility and optimization).

A directional sensor network consists of a number of directional sensors, which can switch to several directions to extend their sensing ability to cover the interested targets in a given area. Because a directional sensor has a smaller angle of sensing range or even does not cover any target when it is deployed, how to cover the interested targets becomes a major problem in directional sensor networks. In this paper, we address the directional cover set problem (DCS) of finding a cover set in a directional sensor network, in which the directions cover all the targets. We propose both centralized and distributed algorithms for the DCS. We also introduce two applications that utilize these algorithms to extend the network work time while maximizing the coverage of the targets. Simulation results are presented to demonstrate the performance of these algorithms and the applications.

Wireless mesh networks have the potential to provide ubiquitous high-speed Internet at low costs. The good news is that initial deployments of WiFi meshes show the feasibility of providing ubiquitous Internet access. However, their performance is far below the necessary and achievable limit. Moreover, users subscription in the existing meshes is dismal even though the technical challenges to get connectivity are low. This paper provides an overview of the current status of mesh network deployment and highlights the technical, economical and social challenges that need to be addressed in the next years.

Cellular communications using High Altitude Platform (HAPs) are studied for next generation broadband wireless network providing also Third generation (3G) mobile services. The Connection Admission Control (CAC) issue in a HAP-UMTS communication system represents a key problem in order to increase the capacity in terms of admitted users preserving the agreement quality of service. The main problem of a full centralized admission control approach consists in an excessive calls blocking for the traffic sources located in the middle of the aerial platform coverage area, due to the high additive interference level generated by all active users. With the aim of resolving this issue, we propose a novel strategy for the admission procedure, based on dynamic power sharing (DFPS), in order to guarantee a high fairness level to all users of the implemented cellular system, in term of calls blocked in each cell. Furthermore, we compare this approach with a previous one based on full centralized power sharing (FCPS). Simulation results show that the proposed CAC scheme can achieve better performances than the previous one, managing the active connections in a "fair" manner also under high load conditions.

Hidden terminal is one of the major problems in ad hoc networks. In addition, there are scenarios where the destination of interest is located in the radio range of other transmitters, so that the efforts on establishing data communication with this mobile station will fail due to collisions that may occur between transmitted control frames and undesired received control and data frames. This phenomenon becomes a bottleneck when most of data transmissions experience packet fragmentation. In such scenarios, the desired destination becomes unreachable during the data transfer of neighboring nodes. Using the same PHY of IEEE 802.11 and making slight modifications in its MAC, a new medium access control scheme is presented to address such problems. The performance of the proposed approach is compared with earlier schemes through simulation-based evaluations, showing performance enhancement due to considerable better handling of unreachability issues in the proposed MAC scheme
