New mobile applications and services in the field of e.g. healthcare, transport and mobile work and business processes implies to manage huge amount of relevant information. In many cases involved people e.g. a patient or a worker are not aware of specific data or not able to take an active role in this managing process. The key to it is the development of Intelligent Wireless sensor networks for transferable applications. This is seen as the consequent next step forward within the field of mobile applications and services The upcoming new wireless technologies open the door to a wide field of new possibilities thereby creating the basis for a new approach to communication. This new approach will empower businesses to implement true mobile products and services in leisure, production and enterprise related contexts. Today we have high focus on new mobile services and applications using the existing technology. In the meanwhile the interoperability with other wireless technologies has become more and more important. Our goal is to design and construct a system that can be put into practical use and prove the benefits and potential of this vital data monitoring system. We describe an experimental system for measuring acceleration from which, we could evaluate the problems facing practical use.

Optical burst switching (OBS) technology is a promising solution for the next generation Internet backbone. However, call admission control (CAC) and QoS support constitute critical issues for this technology. In this paper, we propose a novel QoS-Oriented scheme for burst admission control in OBS networks. An analytic model is developed to estimate the provided QoS for a given traffic type. We also develop a performance evaluation study to validate the proposed scheme and evaluate its impacts on the efficiency of network resource utilization.

Cameras attached to mobile phones are becoming more and more common, and as we move towards 3G and next generation networks, it has become more a standard feature of mobile phones. Over recent months there have been a few grandiose claims within the media about the potential misuse of phones with camera capability. Unfortunately some of these claims are not proved by available facts resulting into confusion and misunderstanding. It may suffice to say that some digital cameras are smaller convenient and technology superior in image quality. This makes them easier to use in an unacceptable manner. Camera phones are designed to provide a means of transferring images via your mobile phone to complement voice or text based communication for business or personal reasons. Normally the youth gets attracted towards the sexual photography and watching movies on the mobile devices. Some times such movies get broadcast on the network like wild fire and it is available to all the community. It is indeed a difficult task to identify the user who has captured these photographs or movies and made it public. This paper focuses on a technique through which this problem can be solved. This technique, if implemented, on a mobile phone can really help the concerned authority to identify the culprits.

This paper specifies the IPv6 address configuration over 3G networks. Although 3GPP and 3GPP2 handle the same issues, they provide a minimum guideline to use IPv6 in 3G networks. In this paper, we describe the IPv6 address configuration over CDMA for the compatibility with general IPv6 operations and efficient IPv6 address configuration. This paper includes general IPv6 address configuration, IPv6 address configuration in 3GPP, and IPv6 address configuration in 3GPP2. With the comparison to general IPv6 operations, we identify some problems of IPv6 address configuration in 3GPP and 3GPP2, and then describe some solutions to solve the problems.

The provision of next generation mobile wireless access necessitates the coexistence of legacy cellular systems and new air interface technologies in cooperative heterogeneous environments. These multi-system environments consist of a number of radio access networks with different radio access technologies such as WiMax, GERAN, UMTS and WLAN. Joint radio resource management strategies are responsible for managing the pool of radio resources and are crucial to guarantee optimal cooperation between network sub-systems. The testing and validation of these strategies demands the construction of robust heterogeneous testbeds on which joint RRM algorithms can be trialled and evaluated. This paper presents an overview of the software/hardware design of the testbed and a description of joint radio resource management strategies being employed to manage RRM across UMTS and WLAN.

Dense wavelength division multiplexing optical networks transport a huge aggregate traffic exceeding Tbps per single fiber, and passive optical network technology has been extended to include the residential and enterprise network layer with fiber-to-the premises. Because this network allows for multimedia and extremely high data rates to end-users, optical communications security is important not only on the client and the node management layers, but also on the physical layer. Thus, cyber-security becomes also important in optical networks, including unbreakable cipher keys, cipher key distribution, identification of malicious actors, source authentication, physical link signature, and countermeasure strategies. In this paper we overview the security of the WDM optical network. We discuss advanced cryptographic methods that stem from quantum mechanics, known as quantum cryptography, and we identify specific vulnerabilities. We also look into the security of the next-generation optical network.

In this paper, we design and study the performance of a multiple access control (MAC) scheme for the multiplexing and the integrated delivery of voice, mobile messaging IP and H.264 videoconference traffic over a high-speed next-generation cellular TDMA channel with errors and capture. To the best of our knowledge, this is one of the first papers in the literature investigating the integration of H.264 video traffic with other types of traffic over wireless networks. Our results show that the proposed scheme achieves high throughput results while preserving the strict quality of service (QoS) requirements of each traffic type and outperforms an efficient scheme previously proposed in the literature.

The paper investigates capabilities of Parlay/OSA (open service access) applications to access to call-unrelated functions, like mobility, user status, terminal capabilities, presence and availability in SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) networks. It addresses means to support Parlay/OSA applications from SIP endpoints in the context of non-INVITE server transactions and client transactions. A mapping between Parlay/OSA interface methods and SIP messages is suggested.

In contrast to the traditional wireless sensor network (WSN) applications that perform only data collection and aggregation, new generation of information processing applications, such as pursuit-evasion games, tracking, evacuation, and disaster relief applications, require in-network information storage and querying. Due to the resource limitations of WSNs, it is challenging to implement in-network information storage and querying in a resilient, energy-efficient, and distributed manner. To address these challenges, we exploit location information and geometry of the network and present an in-network querying infrastructure, namely distributed quad-tree (DQT) structure. DQT satisfies efficient in-network information storage as well as distance-sensitive querying: the cost of answering a query for an event is at most a constant factor (in our case 2radic2 ) of the distance "d" to the nearest event in the network. DQT construction is local and does not require any communication. Moreover, due to its minimalist infrastructure and stateless nature, DQT shows graceful resilience to the face of failures.
