Generally deployed in an unattended environment, a sensor network can be easily assaulted or compromised by adversaries. Network security becomes a major problem. A distributed node revocation scheme is effective in reducing the damages a compromised node may cause to a sensor network, but its operation tends to consume large-scale memory space of the hardware-constrained sensor nodes. To reduce such complexity, this paper presents a new distributed voting revocation scheme based on the one-way hash chain, the concept of threshold secret sharing, the certificate revocation list and the public-key cryptography.

Efficiently moving sensor data from its collection to use points is both the fundamental and the most difficult challenge in wireless sensornetworks, as any data movement incurs cost. In this work, we focus on routing data to multiple, possibly mobile sinks. To deal with the dynamics of the environment arising from mobility and failures, we choose a reinforcement learning approach where neighboring nodes exchange small amounts of information allowing them to learn the next, best hop to reach all sinks. Preliminary evaluation demonstrates that our technique results in low cost routes with low overhead for the learning process.

We study a new geographical routing protocol for Wireless sensornetworks (WSNs). Greedy Packet Forwarding (GPF) algorithm is an attractive localized routing scheme for wireless sensornetworks because of its directional routing property and scalability. In pure GPF, we add a load balancing mechanism, which is also called an energy-aware algorithm. Based on the energy-aware GPF this paper considers lossy wireless link condition because the choice of high quality link reduces transmission errors. We call our algorithm Energy and Wireless link aware GPF (EWG). We use simulations to verify our algorithm and compare the performance with other methods. Our results show low transmission errors and extension of the network lifetime.

Software-defined networking (SDN) is a cornerstone of next-generationnetworks and has already led to numerous advantages for data-center networks and wide-area networks, for instance hi terms of reduced management complexity and more fine-grained traffic engineering. However, the design and implementation of SDN within wireless sensornetworks (WSN) have received far less attention. Unfortunately, because of the multi-hop type of communication in WSN, a direct reuse of the wired SDN architecture could lead to excessive communication overhead. In this paper, we propose a cluster-based flow management approach that makes a trade-off between the granularity of monitoring by an SDN controller and the communication overhead of flow management. A network is partitioned into clusters with a minimum number of border nodes. Instead of having to handle the individual flows of all nodes, the SDN controller only manages incoming and outgoing traffic flows of clusters through border nodes. Our proof-of-concept implementations in software and hardware show that, when compared with benchmark solutions, our approach is significantly more efficient with respect to the number of nodes that must be managed and the number of control messages exchanged.

Cooperative relaying may be used to improve the lifetime of a wireless sensor network and decrease the total transmit energy expenditure in a wireless sensor network where the nodes are constrained by limited energy and computational capabilities. In networks with no special relays, ordinary nodes can assist each other to deliver the messages of one another. Different methods to select the partner nodes have been presented in literature. We compare the performance of some of the most simple algorithms along with two proposed modified schemes using two different practical scenarios. We consider the problems of lifetime improvement and total energy reduction of a network in an IEEE 802.15.4 compatible environment. We also compare the computational complexity of such algorithms. It can be observed that while the optimum algorithms are computationally very demanding especially if the number of nodes is large, the performance of other algorithms depends on the channel conditions and for certain scenarios, their performance is comparable to optimum algorithms. Thus an assessment of the expected channel conditions can be a prerequisite before the selection of an appropriate pairing algorithm is made. Moreover, it is also shown that for certain schemes, the requirement of an improved network lifetime does not translate to a decrease in the overall transmit energy and vice versa.

The necessity to secure the communication between wireless sensornetworks nodes becomes important with the system nodes are being deployed for a wide variety of applications. In this paper, we propose a new approach for session key management among group sensor nodes. We use initial trust node to build a small set of shared keys, low-cost protocols enable neighboring sensors to authenticate and establish secure local links. Each shared key used only once after the set of shared keys are built. Our session scheme exhibits a nice power efficient and excellent updating communications keys. At the same time our scheme updating keys go with exchanging message. Extensive analyses and simulations are conducted to evaluate the proposed schemes, and the results show that the proposed management schemes can achieve a good level of security.

An overview of frequency generation techniques at mm-wave frequencies was provided; Achieving high output power, low phase noise, and wide tuning range are among the most challenging issues in regard to mm-wave frequency generation and synthesis; A study of oscillator design at mm-wave was provided; Circuit techniques such inductive tuning and varactor tuning with loss compensation networks were discussed; In designing an mm-wave PLL-based synthesizer in silicon, the codesign/co-optimization of the VCO and next stage divider would lead to far better performance.

Wireless sensor and actuator networks (WSANs) in which actuators perform actuation based on sensory information exhibit great potential in environment control, building automation, agriculture, etc. In this paper, we focus on the problem of designing control methods for actuators to control the environment and meet user requirement,;based only on local sensory information. A novel distributed collaborative control strategy is proposed and shows good performance under system noises and communication unreliability.

In order to enhance user experience of Virtual Reality (VR) devices, multi user VR environments and wireless connection need to be considered for nextgeneration VR devices. Wireless local area network (WLAN) is a popular wireless consumer device which can provide high throughput and can be installed with low cost using unlicensed band. However, WLAN may cause delay in packet transmission due to its distributed nature in channel access. In this paper, feasibility of wireless VR over WLAN is carefully examined and an efficient multi user VR communication scheme using the nextgeneration WLAN is proposed for multi-user VR services.
