This paper introduces three circularly-polarized (CP) electrically small antennas for emerging wireless applications including wireless power transfer (WPT), Internet-of-Things (IoT), and Device-to-Device (D2D) communications in future fifth generation (5G) systems. First, an electrically small Huygens CP (HCP) antenna operating at L-band frequencies is presented that is facilitated by two near-field resonant parasitic (NFRP) elements, a crossed Egyptian axe dipole (EAD) pair and a crossed capacitively loaded loop (CLL) pair. The HCP antenna is electrically small (ka = 0.73), low profile (~ 0.04°0), and has decent cardioid-shaped radiation patterns with a broad half power beamwidth (>120°). It is attractive for many WPT and body-centric wireless sensor network applications. Second, with the rapid development of 5G wireless networks, a corresponding 28 GHz electrically small HCP antenna is reported. The overall size of this antenna is only p (1.5)2 × 1 ˜ 7 mm3 (ka = 0.94), which can be readily integrated into the various compact platforms anticipated for 5G IoT devices. Third, unlike the above two antennas that radiate uni-directional patterns, a compact 28 GHz omni-directional CP (OCP) antenna is presented for D2D communications in future 5G systems. It is electrically small (ka = 0.95), easy to fabricate, and its performance characteristics cover the entire FCC-specified 5G, 27.5 to 28.35 GHz band. © Institution of Engineering and *** Rights Reserved.

As developing countries like India continue to witness an unprecedented growth in urban population, the climate becomes more susceptible to change. In this context, a weather monitoring technique inspired by the extent and efficiency of sensors on insect antennae is presented. Antennae are a subject of current heuristic intrigue and have motivated robots and sensors with applications ranging from material characterization to chemical volatility and tactility. This approach is taken a step forward by implementing an integrated sensor network, simultaneously picking up variations in pressure, temperature, relative humidity and wind speed. The basic construction and operating principle of the sensor is inspired by the pressure detecting element, the Campaniform Sensilla, on insect antennae. This hypothesis is supported by a set of equations relating the various factors. Then the model is tested for sensitivity, effectiveness of integration and feasibility. Multi-sensing is deemed desirable in smart cities, where sensory overload and the resultant power shortage are likely to pose major technical hindrances. This device promises compactness combined with accuracy and precision and can be implemented anywhere from next - generation cars to airplanes.

Accurate estimation of channel state information in a time varying environment is a challenging problem in next generation high speed wireless communications. Adaptive Channel Estimation (ACE) techniques are used to estimate the channel coefficients of a time varying wireless channel. Normalized Least Mean Square (NLMS) algorithms are utilized to construct simple and stable ACE methods but the intrinsic sparsity of broadband MIMO wireless channel cannot be efficiently utilized by such methods. A Variable Step Size Sign Data Sign Error NLMS (VSS-SDSENLMS) algorithm is proposed in this paper as a method for adaptive sparse channel estimation in broadband MIMO-OFDM systems. l 0 -norm sparse penalty was employed to the cost function of VSS-SDSENLMS algorithm to exploit the sparse information of time varying broadband wireless channel. Simulation results confirmed that the proposed algorithm improved the performance in terms of bit error rate with comparable computational complexity and better MSE performance at a faster convergence rate.

Body-centric wireless networks constitute an attractive next-generation wireless technology representing a cognitive interface to higher-level networks. Recently, the 60 GHz band has been identified as highly promising for body-centric wireless communications including body-area network technologies. A massive deployment of wireless devices equipped with 60 GHz Tx / Rx modules is foreseen in coming years. The corresponding new usages and services will involve near-field interaction of radiating devices with the human body, both in terms of the body impact on wireless device performances as well as in terms of user exposure. This presentation will provide an overview of main features and recent advances in the field of antenna / human body interactions in the 60 GHz band.

In order to enhance user experience of Virtual Reality (VR) devices, multi user VR environments and wireless connection need to be considered for next generation VR devices. Wireless local area network (WLAN) is a popular wireless consumer device which can provide high throughput and can be installed with low cost using unlicensed band. However, WLAN may cause delay in packet transmission due to its distributed nature in channel access. In this paper, feasibility of wireless VR over WLAN is carefully examined and an efficient multi user VR communication scheme using the next generation WLAN is proposed for multi-user VR services.

Detailed and accurate vehicle-oriented sensor data is considered fundamental for efficient vehicle-to-everything V2X communication applications, especially in the upcoming highly heterogeneous, brisk and agile 5G networking era. Information retrieval, transfer and manipulation in real-time offers a small margin for erratic behavior, regardless of its root cause. This paper presents a method for managing nonuniformities and uncertainties found on datasets, based on an elaborate Matrix Completion technique, with superior performance in three distinct cases of vehicle-related sensor data, collected under real driving conditions. Our approach appears capable of handling sensing and communication irregularities, minimizing at the same time the storage and transmission requirements of Multi-access Edge Computing applications.

Millimeter wave communication shows promise in realizing next generation wireless sensor networks for bandwidth demanding applications. Despite its support of multi Gbps data rates, MmWaves requires unobstructed line-of-sight and suffers from heavy path losses. Overcoming these in complex 3D environments requires sectored antenna arrays with narrow beam widths and adaptive beamforming. Therefore, network topology maps would be significant than ever in millimeter wave sensor networks. Traditional topology mapping algorithms rely on omnidirectional transmission and reception and are thus not tailored to such networks. A novel topology mapping algorithm, Millimeter Wave Topology Map (MmTM) is proposed for 3D deployments, which take advantage of the directional information available from beamforming antennas as well as their beam steering capability. An autonomous robot traverses the network recording the packet reception from different nodes along with the receiving antenna sector ID that delivers the packet with highest signal quality. The techniques used in standard IEEE 802.11ad protocol are used for the optimum sector selection and collision avoidance. MmTM is evaluated using two realistic sensor network environments and compared with prominent localization approaches based on received signal strength and hop count. The results show that proposed algorithm has a less than 0.7m distance error and more than 50% of nodes are located in the correct direction, which is 7m and 35% improvement in distance error and sector displacement matrices compared to other algorithms.

Tactical wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are deployed over a region of interest for mission centric operations. The sink node in a tactical WSN is the aggregation point of data processing. Due to its essential role in the network, the sink node is a high priority target for an attacker who wishes to disable a tactical WSN. This paper focuses on the mitigation of sink-node vulnerability in a tactical WSN. Specifically, we study the issue of protecting the sink node through a technique known as k-anonymity. To achieve k-anonymity, we use a specific routing protocol designed to work within the constraints of WSN communication protocols, specifically IEEE 802.15.4. We use and modify the Lightweight Ad hoc On-Demand next generation (LOADng) reactive-routing protocol to achieve anonymity. This modified LOADng protocol prevents an attacker from identifying the sink node without adding significant complexity to the regular sensor nodes. We simulate the modified LOADng protocol using a custom-designed simulator in MATLAB. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our protocol and also show some of the performance tradeoffs that come with this method.

Internet of Things is a new emerging technology by which devices can communicate using internet. The proposed work (i-NXGeVita), Intelligent next generation Vital Signs Monitoring System, states that how to apply Internet of Things in Healthcare using Machine Learning Techniques. Indeed, connect Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) to patient will be helping Doctors and Caregivers to monitor him or her in real-time around the globe. The IoMT devices will collect Vital Signs data such as body temperature, pulse rate, heartbeats (signals), using ECG (Electrocardiogram) sensor, Temperature sensor, etc. That will be stored in the Cloud System and it will synchronize with the local server. Machine Learning comes to analyze those data to identify health risks and estimate severity in real-time by using its Algorithms. i-NXGeVita based on Deep Neural networks (DNN) and IoMT can differentiate between Normal and Abnormal Heartbeats and classify different Abnormal Rhythms. Such techniques will be very useful for physicians to detect possible Health problems and deliver appropriate Medical assistance on time to serve humankind in better way.
