Effective communication and sensing in next-generation wireless technologies require resource-intensive site surveys for data collection. These surveys capture key RF characteristics at various positions, including the Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) and spatial spectrum (RSSI measured from all directions around the receiver). An alternative approach is Radio-Frequency (RF) signal spatial propagation modeling, which predicts received signals based on transceiver positions. Existing Neural Radiance Field (NeRF)-based methods exhibit a fundamental trade-off between scalability and fidelity. To address this challenge, we explore leveraging 3D Gaussian Splatting, an advanced technique for real-time image synthesis of 3D scenes from arbitrary camera poses. This work develops RFSPM, an end-to-end 3D Gaussian distribution-based framework for scalable RF signal Spatial Propagation Modeling. We evaluate RFSPM in spatial spectrum synthesis, demonstrating its learning efficiency compared to NeRF-based methods.

The nextgeneration of wireless sensornetworks will integrate communication systems beyond the third generation paradigm. As a result of this integration, the new communication systems will be fed by the sensornetworks with information gathered from the environment, achieving context awareness. To reach the necessary end-to-end connectivity between all-IP networks and sensornetworks, the IETF 6LoWPAN working group has designed an IPv6 adaptation layer for low power devices. This protocol stack provides IPv6 interoperability to the sensornetworks, thus avoiding as much overhead as possible. This paper analyses and evaluates the associated IP communication overhead in each possible 6LoWPAN scenario, from intra to inter network communication. We conclude that, even the 6LoWPAN offering a light weight IP solution for link local sensor network communication, it has a relatively high overhead when data flows between different networks. In order to avoid the communication overhead when global IPv6 addressing is necessary we propose a new solution based on a 6LoWPAN global-to-link-layer address translation.

Since most ad hoc mobile devices today operate on batteries, energy-aware routings and power control techniques in wireless networks have drawn considerable research interests recently. This paper presents a reliable energy-aware routing algorithm (REARP) for unreliable ad hoc networks. The lifetime of the whole network and the energy cost for each packet are considered simultaneously in the routing processes of the REARP. Different from the formers, the energy cost of the link layer retransmission is also computed into the total energy consumption. Moreover, the REARP appropriately adjusts the transmission power by systematically integrating the reliability and power control techniques. We conducted extensive simulations to evaluate the performance of the new routing algorithms compared to a number of existing routing algorithms.

An important goal in P2P networks is that all peers provide resources. However, free riding and tragedy of common are real issues in P2P networks. To resolve these problems, most of the existing work is concerning probabilistic estimation to evaluate the trustworthiness or mechanism design to provide incentive. Instead of design a protocol to solve free riding, we build a micro-payment architecture for these existing protocols using virtual currency which can be more precisely measured and easily be replaced by reputation or other tokens. Our system can avoid from long-term trust learning interactions and high cost of collecting and analyzing reputation information. It can also provide peers incentive to truly report their connection type and security to malicious attacks.

A routing problem in static wireless ad hoe networks is considered as it arises in a rapidly deployed, sensor based, monitoring system known as the wireless sensor network. Information obtained by the monitoring nodes needs to be routed to a set of designated gateway nodes. In these networks, every node is capable of sensing, data processing, and communication, And operates on its limited amount of battery energy consumed mostly in transmission and reception at its radio transceiver. If we assume that the transmitter power level can be adjusted to use the minimum energy required to reach the intended next hop receiver then the energy consumption rate per unit information transmission depends on the choice of the next hop node, i.e., the routing decision. We formulate the routing problem as a linear programming problem, where the objective is to maximize the network lifetime, which is equivalent to the time until the network partition due to battery outage. Two different models are considered for the information-generation processes. One assumes constant rates and the other assumes an arbitrary process. A shortest cost path routing algorithm is proposed which uses link costs that reflect both the communication energy consumption rates and the residual energy levels at the two end nodes. The algorithm is amenable to distributed implementation. Simulation results with both information-generation process models show that the proposed algorithm can achieve network lifetime that is very close to the optimal network lifetime obtained by solving the linear programming problem.

In this paper we consider a problem of implementing a hybrid routing protocol for wireless sensornetworks, which natively supports data-centric, geographic-based and address-centric communication paradigms. We demonstrate the feasibility of such protocol by presenting tinyLUNAR, an adapted to the specifics of sensornetworks reactive routing scheme originally developed for mobile wireless ad hoc networks. In addition to the support for several communications paradigms tinyLUNAR implements highly efficient multihop forwarding using only 1 B field that can be directly encoded in the standard IEEE 802.15.4 MAC header.

We discuss challenges and solutions to enable ultra low-power communication systems. In the field of sensornetworks, this question has been investigated for multiple decades now. However, only the combination of technological and algorithmic methods eventually helps designing nextgeneration systems. Using wildlife monitoring as an application scenario, in particular monitoring the social behavior of bats, we explore novel solutions for low-power communications given the high reliability requirements and weight restrictions. We go stepwise through a series of hardware, signal processing, and coding solutions that we developed, in order to illustrate our advancements. Our concepts have been evaluated both in large-scale simulation as well as in first field experiments.
